Its getting harder and harder every day to remain a ChrisG fan. That interview was one of the worst things I have witnessed.

The funny thing is that ChrisG is not even trying to be a heel or doing this on purpose. He thinks he is the good guy and everyone is out to get him. This is the polar opposite of FChamp who wants everyone to hate him but in fact isn't a true heel.

What ChrisG complained about it getting to him when people uploaded videos of him getting blown up was exactly what happened with FChamp. Remember the Kusuro blow up? The Justin Wong comeback on Champ? The Arthur blow up? The She Hulk/Tron blow ups? Everytime FChamp's Phoenix gets killed people cheer same way they cheer when Morrigan dies. ChrisG's situation is not unique and he is not a god damn victim.

DJ Huoshen dropping truth bombs:
This is what I wrote on Chris' FB wall before Taxi-gate.

This was before he went bitch mode. Fuck that guy.

So Chris G is Sheamus, and Champ is CM Punk.
That interview was indeed one of the worst interviews ever. Dude has no point, but just feels like bitching about EVO because he wants more money.
Here are two reasons I can think of:
1. He wants more money, but doesn't know who to blame. Think EVO's an easy target because a lot of people want to see him win/lose Evo and he feels he can use his presence as ransom.
2. He's afraid of losing at Evo. He thinks people have technology against him that he can't cope with, and if he does lose, no one's going to let him live that down, since now he's at his best, unlike Evo 2012. Basically the PerfectLegend effect. The whole MK community can blow up PL in other tourneys but PL's still considered the MK champ.

Not that I agree with anything he says but he can feel how he feels about shit. I don't think it makes him a bad guy for thinking what he does only stupid.

I never said he's a bad guy, I am just saying he is a bit misguided and he is letting his emotions run his mouth.

I think someone said it the best here, he is at times incapable of seeing past the length of his own nose.

Sephi I don't know who Sheamus and CM Punk are... lol

I think Chris G is probably a good guy. His heart is probably in the right place. That's why he does Zoned Out and still reps LB because he's just trying to help out, and why he doesn't enter Zoned Out too, because he doesn't want people to go there just to get bodied, and why he offers casuals with him while he's there.

He just probably shouldn't be talking. Especially when he regurgitates back the questions he is asked and has nothing new or constructive to say. He's a young guy who is constantly bombarded by social media hate and the pressure of thousands. And yeah, some people who can't self monitor very well crumble in these scenarios. He's given these platforms to talk and people expect something of him so he just says some shit. Like he said, he probably just made things worse by the end of it.

But being rude and disrespectful to Slasher and DJ Wheat like someone said above just makes you think "goddamn I can't even expect THAT much of this guy. Is he really everyone outside the community will be turning to for insight because of his skill alone?"

You kinda called him a heel but whatever

No I said he isn't trying to be a heel but his statements come off as someone who is. He isn't a bad guy by any means.

I'd guess a lot of the "EVO guys make millions" crowd over on the EC are pretty constantly in his ears too. Reading between the lines of his interview, it kind of, sort of, maybe makes sense if he believes TOs are making huge cash off of him.

I noticed James Chen on twitter offered to sit down with him at CEO and talk it over and this is probably exactly what he needs.

That's pretty much who CM Punk is (a wrestler from WWE).

Dude wants you to hate him (on purpose), but at the end of they day, you're glad he's around to start shit for the sake of making shit fun to watch.

It's possible KoF isn't that hard or complex. It definitely has a reputation of being that way. This is obviously just my opinion, but there are a LOT of mechanics in the game that you have to figure out before you're competent enough to play. There are more types of jumps than most Street Fighter characters have special moves. Also, you have to learn THREE characters and you have to be able to play them each competently. It's not like Marvel where you can do A, B, C, S, hold up, B, B, C, S, land, super with pretty much the entire cast (AFAIK; again, I'm ignorant to the game). It definitely doesn't have the assist factor which means you can get away with only knowing two characters or X Factor where you can win just by having Vergil in the back. It sounds like I'm encouraging lazy play, but let's be honest. People don't want to spend a ton of time just to get into the game so they can later figure out if they like it or not. Games nowadays are about fast results. You can get that with Marvel and Street Fighter. I don't know if you can get the same thing from King of Fighters without putting a lot of time into it. It just has this intimidating reputation.

KoF, esp 13, is pretty easy, I teach u maxx. It has a false reputation of being honest/hard from players that say that cuz its the thing your supposed to say(akin to VF is so "deep and balanced" and ST is the "best" sf) and just repeat weird FG stereotypes. But anyone that actually plays the game knows its not that hard, and its really not that honest lol.

Chris G is a good kid. Him and his girlfriend are great people who are care a lot about what's going on.

When he feels pressure, he doesn't handle it well. It's obvious. But I'm confident he can learn to be above/beyond it.

Thanks! I'm going to take this as serious and not at all sarcastic because I want to. Like I've said I just started learning Marvel 3 in like, December, so I was pretty far down in the 20-30% win rates for a while. A few hundred games later and I've made up for that. Yay!

Yep I commentate Marvel 3 deal with it

Edit: As for Thor on anchor, meh, I'm not worried about it. The biggest problem for my Thor is that I can't really handle his manually intensive movement, so as fun as he is and as good as I think he is, I'm thinking about switching to someone easier on the ol' fingers. Not sure who yet. Maybe Shehulk. We'll see.

you play on xbox or ps3?

Weh! My win percentage scoffs at yours. When I started playing Ultimate, I ran a set with my friend to 100 games and I won 8.

I'm a lot better now! Problem is, so is everyone else. :(

So I just picked up GGXXAC+R on Vita and I'm hitting combos way easier with Millia now?

The DPad is great, and the return of j2.HS(ie the haircopter) makes her much more fun.

Vita > arcade stick? This is blowing my mind.

Whats funny is i dont remember chris g being such a heel before he joined AGE.

Also funny all this talk of killing mahvel. I remember at that bar fights last year where marlinpie called it saying chris g picking up vergil was the destruction of marvel .

Before he picked up MorriDoom he would give up a lot in matches, that was heel behavior

I'm surprised you started the game so late, considering this quote from you when the game was in pre-release:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=02UZw7gQnVo&t=04m20s

LOL, Mike Ross @ 1:00: "Maybe we'll get Sentinel or something like that" *nervous chuckle*

Thor is probably medium in the game in terms of finger requirements. Are you still running Spencer/She-Hulk/Thor?

This video linked by Q in the last thread is a pretty good run through of all the basics. There's also a series of short character videos being put out to give people an idea of how these characters are played. Beyond that what sort of issues are you having with the game if any? I'm sure someone here can help you out.

Thanks - had seen the tutorial but not the character vids. What I really meant was whether it was better to pick an "easy" character like Ky to try to learn, then move to a char I really want to play. Is there a good summary of the characters, their playstyle/strengths/weaknesses, and their role in the story anywhere?

It's important to figure out what kind of customization FG players actually want, however. People love the customization provided by MvC3's toolbox options re: assists and team composition. However, no one wants to deal with minute statistical stat-monstering, a la SFxT 2012's Gem system.

I meant costumization, like outfits. Stuff like Miku outfits.

If Louffy is making Evo, pulling for his Rose.

You kinda called him a heel but whatever

heel doesn't mean "bad guy" literally like he's a bad person

Just means he isn't going by the good guy everyman narrative. And he isn't--splitting pots, complaining about pay outs, calling mrwizard a faggot, being self-centered. well, if the homophobic remark wasn't just a mindless insult and a sign of actual homophobia, he might be a bad person.

I think a 3D fighter could strike gold with a DOTA-type customization model, provided gameplay remained "pure and honest".

VF is probably in the best position to do this of all the fighters.

In the DOTA2 vein, I think people would also buy into <Year X> Tournament series icons and costumes. So I pay like $2 for a EVO 2013 in-game costume and $1 goes to the prize pool (in an imaginary world where that stuff is easy/possible to do).

I do have the gnawing thought that the first step in moving toward e-Sports-like growth is respecting and including the online players. To be fair, this is done on the individual and community level quite often and I don't know if going as far as having online teaching sessions or an online regional champion is necessary. I just think that completely dismissing the daily, online player also dismisses interested eyes and ears.

Not soon enough if you ask me!
Oh god Mike Jones made me a gamer. Startropics U would make me buy a Wii U TODAY.

Look to the skies for the Southern Cross...

Heart growing three sizes bigger with posts like this. I feel you especially Juicebox, never got Zelda as my NES adventure game, got StarTropics (second game I ever played in life behind SMB+Duck Hunt) looking at those cool inserts they'd package in the NES boxes and getting hype because the setting looked so cool and "OMG giant octopus boss".

You three are the best members on gaf.

Star Tropics U would be really bad. That's not what the Wii U needs from Retro right now. Everyone is expecting a megaton that will move consoles.

I mean bad for the Wii U. I'm sure the game would turn out fine. It's just not going to be a system seller, which is what Nintendo needs from Retro.

Ah gotcha. I know the term system seller refers to a wide userbase, but real talk that would be my system seller.

Can someone explain this latest drama? I haven't been able to follow tourneys/this thread as closely as I'd like lately.

What happened with ChrisG at UFGT?

I repsect ChrisG as a player he really is a genius when he picks up the stick.

But his views, his ideas are so twisted. I was watching that interview with my jaw open. I am very quickly loosing respect for him, not because of Morrigan (i love lame, im east coast :P) but just his mindset is just so cringe worthy...

I noticed he complains about how there is no money in the FGC and compared it to FPS and RTS games on how they make way more money as a team than one person. But he doesnt understand that those games are being backed up by the creators, the company who developed that game so they are injecting tons of cash in the game in hopes to get money in return for their investemnt. FGC is not that, FGC is a community build on people who want to do something special for those who have a similar intrest in hobby. If Chris is finding it hard to make money in the FGC, then maybe he should find a realy job? I don't= know, it just seems like something no one should complain about, he should feel happy to be able to make a living just playing fighting games competativly....

Louffy going to Evo? Awesome! Him and Ryan Hart are the two best players in the EU!

Cannot wait to hear about how they get put in the same bracket or something.

Valve regulates and manages their economy very carefully, though. The items have value since both supply and demand are very carefully considered, and the entire system is getting tied into the future of Steam, so I don't think it's on the same level as "sell some costumes and you get revenue". I know you buy non-cosmetic items in LoL but I don't know how true the "pay to win" accusations I hear about the game are. In any case, if gems were the best monetization model Capcom came up with I don't really have high hopes for anything they might come up with in the future.

Ah gotcha. I know the term system seller refers to a wide userbase, but real talk that would be my system seller.
Yeah, that's all I mean. Really, Retro should be designing a hardcore multiplayer FPS. I'm not a fan of the genre, but it's something the Wii U needs to compete with the other two systems. Not a callodoody clone, but something unique with a kind of Nintendo flare. I think that would upset a lot of Nintendo fans, but it would sell very well.

If Retro could make their own Perfect Dark (not saying remake PD but I'm pretty sure we're discussing the same idea here of an original IP that stands out) it would make a huge difference for Nintendo.

That said, I'm selfish. I've been wanting a real Startropics follow up (not the rushed mess that was Zoda's Revenge) for my entire gaming life. If there's even the smallest chance of that happening, I'm showing full support for it.

What happened with ChrisG at UFGT?

Basically Chris G said that he doesn't want to go to EVO because he thinks the pot money is too little and not worth his effort. Also if he wins he'll probably kill off UMvC3, yet if he loses everyone will celeberate and call him a fraud who had been exposed, ignoring his dominance over the past year. So he's complaining about the lack of respect he's getting irregardless of what he does.

The UFGT has less to do with him and more to do with beef between Keits and Fanatiq. Keits wanted to do an AGE panel and Fanatiq cancelled it in the last minute because Keits refused to put Knives in a later pool as he can't come on Friday afternoon.

Metroid prime online that takes the best bits from halo, COD and MP.

It'd do well.

Chris G is a nice dude, he just loses the words matchup 10-0. This should be pretty well known by now.

I certainly don't blame your Startropics support. Nintendo just recently decided to resurrect one of my dream games (2D Zelda), so I'm pumped.

Yeah, something like that. Metroid Prime Hunters with each character having diverse skillsets and abilities. Customizable armor and such. I'm honestly not sure what could be taken from CoD, though. All of my experiences with that game lead me to believe that it's played in poor taste. None of the game's mechanics are good. Halo is superior in every way (disclaimer: I have not played a Halo since Halo 2; I've watched Halo 3 a few times).
