The Last of Us Demo (GoW:A Exclusive) Discussion Thread

Well... I tried playing around with the AI a bit instead of just stealthing. Shit gets tense when you get rushed by multiple runners and the clicker is after you as well.

I think they take more damage on hard... seems like just the perfect amount, especially since resources are more limited. Hopefully they don't make them take any more damage in survivor difficulty or it might be kinda shitty.

Clickers are no joke man. If you don't have a shiv or two bullets (both have to be perfect headshots) you're basically not killing them as far as I can tell. I didn't have enough stuff to mod the melee stick, and it broke while I was beating on him... NOT GOOD. Almost shit my pants. The escape was quit thrilling.

This game is going to be fuck-awesome.

That's what happened to me, I was completely surrounded, had to fight my way out, used a shive on the clicker, created some distance between me and the runners and shot'em down.
It all happened in a few seconds, I was like "god damn" lol. Then it ended and I was a sad panda.

a friend of mine downloaded the demo using a spare account then shared the password of the account with me and i was able to play the demo

the demo is short but hell i want that game badly.

Well, it still gives me this error message when I try to download it on the screen you go to from the GoW:A menu. You can see the countdown at 00:00 etc. at the bottom right.

If someone could make a throwaway account and put the small initial downloader client thingy in their download history, I'd really appreciate it.

Do I need to keep the disc in the tray if I want to play the demo? Thinking about just redboxing it and returning it (already played GOWA), but want to continue playing the demo after it's been returned.

Once you download the installer the disc is unnecessary.

You could return the game and still have access to the demo on your HDD.

Wish I could help but I'll be away from my PS3 until tomorrow.

The city there in is Pittsburgh, right?

Yup.

Surely someone has tried already? We used to get dummy accounts going moments after things went live. Maybe it's locked to a specific account like some games.

Someone check the downloader (triangle>info) to see if it has an "owner."

Yeah, they definitely take more damage on Hard. For clickers you can do the quick throw with a bottle/brick and melee them I'm pretty sure, but you need a weapon.

This guy right here seems to have done it:

I'm not trying to get around the requirement of owning the game, since I posted that picture to show what's going on. :(

It's Boston!
I did not read up on this game much, considering it was going to be a Day 1 purchase. But right at the start, seeing that Route 90 sign and then the exit ramp sign for 93 North. Wow. Floored. This game just got real

It's kinda hard... you can't really sneak up on the runners. lol. Every time they will spin around, and then shit goes downhill real fast.

I've never played a game where it can go sideways on you like that in an instant, but you can still scrape your way out of it, and even though it's frantic, you still feel like you're in complete control, and any mistakes are your own, not the game clunk screwing you over.

It's neat. Bring on the humans.

The demo sort of sealed the deal for me. I was fence sitting.

Naughty Dog creates interesting characters and has outstanding animations that bring me into the world. This setting is much more interesting for me than the Indiana Jones, Summer Blockbuster, setting of the Uncharted series. Uncharted is still really good imo :)

This game is much more grave and serious in terms of the characters involved and the decisions that they could possibly be forced to make. I get that this setting isn't unique; I am just more excited to see the story telling and character development play out in this setting.

I am fairly "anti stealth" when it comes to games and gameplay, but the Listen Mode really helps speed up those scenarios and makes them SEEM less tedious.

The demo is great :D. I want to play it again but I'll wait for the full game.

Does anyone have a link to the XMB picture from the demo?

It's great, but is it Citizen Kane levels of greatness?

Please don't answer that

Control: The movement feels a bit stiff. Maybe it's intentional but in a game like this I expect a bit more fluidity because it's easy for things to go wrong just with late response to movement. And the movement control feels a bit like UC3 pre-patch and I'm not sure if I like it.

Gameplay:
I really have no idea how to tackle the 4 other runners + 1 clicker that doesn't involve direct confrontation. The 1st runner I can easily take down using stealth. But the others have extremely sharp ears that the minute they hear/spot me, it's all over, they'll screech and call the others, forcing you into battle, whether you want to or not. I'd try again later and see if I can take them down using other ways.

Graphic: Serviceable. It's not as pretty as UC2 or UC3 but it's pretty good.

If you guys want to play the game at its most visceral. Try avoiding listening mode.
I forgot all about it, had no idea on how to actually use it, and the experience is ten times more intense.

On the way home!

I AM excited!! And jealous of the rest of you! Can't wait; keep the opinions flowing!

So you like the AI? Is it as good as the AI in FEAR?

I completely forgot that even existed. Made it much better. Genuinely being scared to go round a corner incase there was an infected.
