It has 0% to do with Fanatec.
Considering they had/have a partnership with them, it could do a lot with them. Rallying for support for their product on their new console. Of course the ultimate decision (sadly) comes down to MS.

They'd just be asked to provide an HID driver, there's nothing else Fanatec can really do. That's no big deal because obviously they've already developed that, which is why I'm not swayed one way or the other because they haven't been told what the deal is yet.
If it's the new wireless proto and XID only, they're out, I'm out (and I don't even use a wheel for FM!), and I suspect many other people will be out too.
Again, I'm hopeful sanity will prevail. There's very little to gain, but lots to lose.
HID would be good (easy compatibility) and bad (no rumble).
I suspect MS will not support HID (even though it's technically possible), they'll use XID over Wifi Direct, and as far as I know Fanatec don't have the electronic/software engineering resource to really design it all from scratch, I believe the current products rely on a board supplied by MS that does the wireless and XID decoding (not quite sure, just what I remember from threads on various forums).
I'm not hopeful for any wheel at launch and that would be a typical MS faux-pais which they also did at the 360 launch..
Greenawalt is a tire nut. Turn 10 have tweaked the model, for the better, in each consecutive game. Now, to fully experience all that Newtonian secret sauce, one must use a wheel. There's no two ways about it.
Forza is a console sim. If Turn 10 want to be taken seriously in this regard, they would want a wheel one way or the other.
As such, I'm inclined to believe that Turn 10 have learned their lesson from the 360 days.
Be it Fanatec, Mad Catz or an internal product, we will see a wheel for Forza 5.
Oh thats cool. Guessing thats new? Haven't been following Project Cars as much lately.
You know that's not gonna happen. The overall impression I got was one of overall improvement from FM2 through FM4, but not necessarily in all departments. FM5 could benefit by drawing on the whole legacy of the FM series, and not just use FM4 as the starting point.
Found this FM5 pic while on GTplanet.

The lights have been turned off in this one. A little bit closer to day/night confirmation?
Looks like a shot from GT5.
What button would we lose to accommodate the lights or do you reckon they'd make them automatic like Horizon?
Kinect.
I didn't think of that but it could free up a couple of buttons for non essential functions (telemetry) and maybe we could get stuff like brake bias or wipers mapped to buttons.
The bottom edge of the controller features a high-speed data transfer port. Microsoft says they'll announce accessories for this at a later date.
Why do you need wipers if there is no weather change?
Sounds like a great idea.
So probably not.
Hey guys just had a thought, don't know if it's possible I'm sure someone more knowledgeable can shoot me down if I'm wrong.
Would it be possible to hook up our wheels through this port?
If so it would accomplish 2 things.
1- Allow us to use our fanatec wheels without the need of a 6ft usb cable
2- Finally let us use a controller in tandem with the wheel for photos and livierys
What are the chances of them including Rally in Forza 5? I thought it was pretty well done in Horizon and I think it would be cool to be included this time.
It' might work. Use the controller to send XiD or HiD info to the wheel via USB.
There might be a problem with it not recognising it as a wheel controller though.
And if it does work in that way could you use a Logitech wheel also?
I know, but I was thinking what else could it be used for?
Edit: And if it does work in that way could you use a Logitech wheel also?

I give 0% chance that microsoft put a port in a new controller to compensate for fanatec wheels.
I wouldn't expect a whole lot of new features in Forza 5. Development time just doesn't allow for it.What are the chances of them including Rally in Forza 5? I thought it was pretty well done in Horizon and I think it would be cool to be included this time.

They really need to drop this 2 year dev cycle. It's not doing the game any favours.
It should be PGR one year, FM the next, Horizon the next than PGR again etc.
I'm quite happy getting FM every two years. How would a three-year cycle enable more content? The time spent working on the game averages out the same, but as things stand we get three games in six years, not two games. Features can still be added.
More content, less bugs, more thoroughly realised features.
A 2 year dev cycle would be one of the main reasons the Nurburgring is still garbage, we didn't get dynamic ToD and weather in FM3/4 etc. 2 years is really only enough for some more content and basic features.
Except allowing people to have a new and improved Forza every two years and making them more money so they can continue to keep doing it.They really need to drop this 2 year dev cycle. It's not doing the game any favours.
Agree with all that. Some things are beyond just a matter of time.I understand what you're saying, I just think it might be a simplistic take on the development process. Taking your Nurburgring example, this could be updated as an ongoing project and either included in the next FM (if ready) or released as DLC afterwards. I just don't think it's been a priority for Turn 10. Personally I'm not bothered by its inaccuracies. Even if I'd driven the Nurburgring ten times in a supercar I'm sure I'd never be able to tell where any mistakes lie. I've never really understood all the fuss about it. People act as if they know the real track like the back of their hand. It still drives great, it's still a lot of fun, it's still recognisable as a videogame version of the track.
And I really believe that night and weather didn't make it into FM on the 360 because it was impossible to do them visual justice and maintain 60fps on the old creaky hardware.

Honestly, I think this game is going to look awesome .
Looks good there, but I want to see in-game stuff.
And is it just me who cares more about how the environments look than the detail on the cars?
Has there been any confirmation regarding framerate yet?

It needs to be well balanced. I play from an in-car or bumper view, so seeing my car is not that big of a deal. Environments to me is really important as well. But the thing with a lot of the Forza tracks is that they are very stale. Would it hurt them to put some hot air balloons, more banners, perhaps helicopters flying around or something? When I watch a race on T.V. it looks like a lively even, they have these things in real life...they should make the game have a little more life in it.
