I don't understand why people think this. I mean Robb's death was the result of a long line of mistakes, and was something that had obviously been plotted and agreed upon between the Freys the Boltons and the Lannisters long in advance, before the leech ritual even took place. I just don't get how you could see this as being the work of the Lord of Light. Renly's was obviously a supernatural death but everything about Robb's death and the slaughter at the Red Wedding suggests otherwise.

I agree with you about Robb. The Starks died for the exact same reason Ned did - massive political failures brought upon largely by their own naivety and myopia, fighting against others who are much more politically capable as well as ruthless. You don't need magic to knock the Starks down a peg, or several. They largely bring it on themselves.

However, I think it's totally understandable why some would wonder about it. We have no idea what the Lord of Light is and how it actually works, at all, nor the breadth of its power. We don't even know if such an entity actually exists or if something else is going on. When we have seen it in action, it's been to incredible effect, doing things that are fairly unimaginable (including allowing someone to cheat death multiple times). So whatever the real reason behind it, there's clearly crazy magic shit happening and certain people are able to control it.

From that standpoint it simply begs the question as to what the leeches actually did, because we've always seen this stuff do something major. Stannis cursed the three "usurpers" to death, and here you have Robb dead. It's a natural connection to make, though I think it would be exceedingly bizarre even by this show's standards if the leech played a part in Robb's death, given the political complexity and foresight it demanded.

I don't think the leeches are a cause so much as a part of a prayer ritual. It was Stannis saying to the LoL "Hey kill these dudes, yo." Now, if the LoL is out there, chances are he got the message, saw what was going down with RW, and said "Welp nothing to do there. I'll just let this play itself out."

Now, if Joffery and Greyjoy die, I really don't know what else you can call it. Those two are clearly much safer atm than Robb ever was.

I hope Tyrion butcher everyone in his family and get the damn throne.

Tyrion ain't gonna do shit any time soon. You saw him at the wedding. He's basically given up.

I'm actually really wondering what Jaime's reaction to all of this will be.

I'm more interested in Brienne. She's supposedly failed a second person she was sworn to serve and protect you know? Just like Renly she couldn't save Lady Catelyn. And what happens when they get to King's Landing and find out Sansa is married to Tyrion now and can't leave and Arya is missing?

I am in love with the reactions. It's 2:04 AM and I got to be up in a few more hours and it's, I can't explain it, it's just amazing how many people were affected by this episode. I love it. It's glorious.

Bravo HBO, bravo GRRM.

It sucks to see the turn of events, and it sucks that no one is safe, as it were, but the drama, the glory, the brilliance, it's just totally overwhelming. I at least can live through the eyes of others' reactions to this. It makes me appreciate the series more and more.

Love it. I decided I'll continue reading.

The more I think about this event the more depressed I get. Shiet, it's 5 in the morning and I'm still not asleep.

Yup, same. She died thinking her family was completely destroyed. Her father died, possibly uncle and brother. Her daughter Arya assumed dead after Ned died. Bran and Rickon killed by Theon and Winterfell burned to the ground.

All she knew is Sansa is captive at Kings Landing, but if they kill people like this, she's probably dead too etc

Her scream is chilling.

So ive looked back a few pages but have found nothing.. what was it about the music that made Catelyn think something was up?

Excellent episode btw.

I think Brienne's reaction is more predictable. She's naturally going to be devastated by the various events. I honestly have no idea at this point how Jaime will react. We're led to believe he's now the kinder and softer Jaime, but how far does that go? And will he be treated differently now that he's missing his sword hand, and if so, will that play a part in his views and actions?

Yeah can't wait to see what happens.

Or read, I guess, since I plan on going through the books before the second half of ASoS plays out on TV.

This is half the internet right now.

It was the Rains of Castamere. It's basically a song about the Lannister slaughtering an opposing family. Cersi metioned it in the last episode.

edit: beaten

The music playing (I think) was a rendition of The Rains of Castamere, which was the name of the latest episode too.

If you don't remember anything about the Rains of Castamere, rewatch the episode prior to this one where Cersei threatens Margaery. The parallels become immediately clear.

Also why didn't Jon Snow take his waifu with him! i don't wanna like characters on this show anymore, from now on i will dislike them all :(

He's going off to warn Castle Black and to avoid further bloodshed. Remember what he said to Ygritte last episode? She and all her Wildling friends are going to die, and he likely wants to protect her.

So are we supposed to spoiler [Star Wars]
Vader is Luke's father
still? I know that's a bigger stretch, but what is the accepted spoiler window on things? I always thought a year was the accepted time passage for this board. Anyone who is interested in TDKR enough that cares about not being spoiled should have already seen it imo haha. As soon as something is released on DVD it should be fair game in my opinion.

This is bullshit. This conversation pops up so often, but it's already been resolved long ago. The "Member Etiquette" thread considers a spoiler "anything which can hinder a person's enjoyment of something by telling them something they might not have known beforehand." Sure, for things like the twist to Empire Strikes Back it's so ingrained in the public conscious that it's probably safe to discuss freely, but this whole idea of "man, this movie came out a year ago, it's gotta be fair game" is bullshit. I know this is completely off-topic, but it's silly to assume everyone rushes out to watch every movie and book they've ever been interested in seeing/reading immediately. A conversation shouldn't be at the mercy of what other people have or haven't seen, of course, but that's why there are spoiler tags. They're easy to do.

As for this episode, it's just... Even now after hours it's crazy to think about. I didn't have as visceral of a reaction as some of you, but I did sit in my seat for awhile just not moving at all after it happened, which is especially notable for me XD. Unlike a lot of people who saw the episode, I actually love the story even more now and am looking forward to the fallout and future.
And it's not because "they've got balls, man", though I do like when stories do show they aren't afraid to do certain things. I just felt Game of Thrones didn't really need to prove anything by this point, considering how bleak the proceedings have been throughout the entirety of the show. I really like it because it shows how high the stakes were for Robb, who has been making misstep after misstep and how much one error can lead to disastrous consequences. It was also a phenomenal hour of television. I know ASOS has the reputation of being the "holy shit"iest story in the series altogether, but I really don't know how this show could ever top a moment like tonight's. It was so wonderfully devised and executed.

I can't help but feel natural disdain for those claiming Robb's ineptness, The King in the North faced overwhelming bad luck in this task. The 'bad decisions' were understandable.

I didn't really give a shit about Robb (and especially not cat), but that scene still got to me. The fucking gut stabbing, man. So unnecessary.

That's exactly how I feel. The scene was traumatizing to watch but at the same time it amplified my excitement for what's to come. Plus all of my favorite characters are still alive (minus Ned) so I'm not too upset.

So, that happened.

In the context of this show, though, I expected a bit... I dunno, more?

I expected it ALL to be like the final shot.

Thought this was a great quote from the EW intreview:

Weiss: If everything was gruesome and terrible all the time you’d always know what was going to happen since it would always be the most gruesome and terrible thing. The range of different possibilities that play out makes it more real because that’s what the world is like. Sometimes wonderful things happen and sometimes horrible things happen.

It's the balance that makes moments like this far more impactful.
