The Last of Us - Review Thread [Emargo up, scores in OP.]

I disagree. I dislike the cell-shaded look of Wind Waker and far prefer the more realistic visuals of TP, but I think WW is a better designed game.
That's a pretty surprising opinion to me, I don't want to derail the thread with Zelda design debate though, but yeah, surprising.

who cares what a game gets reviewed? i never understood that. The game looks ridiculously good and either I enjoy it or i dont. Someone else reviewing it has no impact on anything

Because not everybody has money to throw around at things that might or might not be bad.

The German Gamepro magazine gave the game a 88? Is that our lowest score right now? That sounds great. I can tell you right now this title will be divisive. However, in my opinion, most great games are :).

He is not alone. I played both games on GCN on my old CRT and vastly preferred the look of TP. I grew up with OoT though, so realistic is exactly the Zelda I like and want. However, I don't dislike the artstyle of WW. I think it is fine.

As an enthusiast, I enjoy reading what people who have played something I haven't have to say about it. I also take pleasure in watching other people have conniption fits over numbers, or try to guess which reviews smell like dollar bills. It's all part of the gaming experience.

Gamepro an 88? That's pretty low for them - nearly every major game gets 80+ there.

What are the rules for us Gaffers who've played the game, have the same embargo date, but whose reviews won't be published until at the end of the month (e.g. print). Are we allowed to post non-spoiler thoughts in this thread tomorrow? Or should we stay away? =)

No problem with that. Its always really worrying to me when a game gets ridiculously high scores. Its not always the case of course.

I can echo this sentiment.

That's your publication's call, no?

EDIT: Misread your post.

I imagine if you have the same embargo date, you should be fine.

This is stupid and immature. It's rather pathetic how a select few want to devolve discussion from the title's merits into a glorified fanboy war.

The good thing: I read some spoiler weeks ago but totally forgot what it was about.
The bad thing: Europe still has to wait until next Friday to play. Boooo!

I don't plan on actually reading ANY of the reviews for TLOU until I've beaten the game myself and I suggest to people that are interested in this game do the same. I'll just glance over the review scores even though they mean jack shit in this day and age.

Not just europe. Everyone has to wait, June 14 is worldwide release date.

It will always happen, might as well enjoy it when it does

No, this just shows how immature some folks are. I don't want discussion of TLoU to turn into a metacritic wet dream, and thankfully it hasn't. GlamFM, people who won't purchase the game because of Citizen Kane references, and posters who've explicitly stated they have no interest in buying the game, but to mock the positivity surrounding it's release are the one's that should be called out.

The majority of the folks in this thread have actually shown maturity and an enthusiasm about the title. Check the last few pages where a select few actually tried to make mountains of out of mole hills. I don't think you are going to see the knee-jerk reactions you want. I am proud of GAF and the mods for policing a mature environment in this thread.

Oh. Didn't know that. I really hope my retailer gets the game early - gameware.at usually sends out games the day they get them in stock and I've seen that in the US someone already broke the street date.

People actively posting to try and provoke meltdowns and try and turn it into an UC3 review discussion can piss off, agreed. I won't pretend that I don't find it funny to see people going off on one because of reviews though :D

That's where i bought the game too, store is only 20 minutes away from me :)
I got Uncharted 3 almost 2 weeks before the official release.

I hated Uncharted 3, would I like this?

Welcome to the club. I really don't like Uncharted 2. I bought it recently because of the general praise and really didn't know what people found so pleasing about it. Controls felt sluggish, shooting was dumb and unresponsive and the whole set pieces felt VERY artificial and staged. I never was under the impression to be in a living world despite the good graphics. That said, I didn't finish the game.

Sometimes I just have to live with the fact that people have alarmingly shocking taste and opinions.

This constant hand wringing and wishful thinking for some type of super terrible or against the curve reviews just to coax a few heat of the moment moronic posts here or on twitter is the most perplexing and troubling thing going on right now.

Sometimes I feel like an outsider here. Seeing people talk about how much Biochok Infinte sucks is one of those times. Absolutely loved the game.

At least GAF in general appreciates Nier, that certainly makes up for it.
