Bloober Team, the Polish development studio responsible for Last Flight and Music Master Chopin, has announced Basement Crawl as its next project. Beyond the fact that the game is a PlayStation 4 title set to drop within the console's release window, however, nothing else is known about the game.

Well, and that it's got this clown in it presumably. We're sorry about that, by the way, it's just that we had to see this clown thing, and so now you do also – we just can't take the full brunt of its nightmare fuel. By sharing it with you, our most beloved readers, its terrible power is diluted and eventually we'll be able to defeat it. But at what cost?

From BlooperTeam website they've worked on the following projects in the past:
  • A-MEN
  • LAST FLIGHT
  • MUSIC MASTER CHOPIN
  • PAPER WARS: CANNON FODDER
  • EGYPT:ENGINEERING AN EMPIRE
  • FUTURE FIGHT
  • DOUBLE BLOOB

Rumour has it MS is going the apple route of having newer hardware every few years so it sort of makes sense they are low balling it now. If in 2 years when the Xbox One: Two is out and is 2x as powerful things will get interesting. People will be angry, some people will be happy. Will be interesting to see if console gaming can be done that way.

Oh there will be some fun times ahead this gen.

This only works when phone companies subsidize the purchase of the phone. It also helps that the old phone isn't immediately obsolete if you choose not to upgrade (e.g. software for the iphone 5 generally works quite well on the iphone 4S and 4). They'd need to change the way software is made as well, e.g. make software that runs on both the upgrade and the old one for this model to be anything more than a pipe dream.

I disagree. Part of the allure of FInal Fantasy, at least to me, is being engaged in a complex narrative, and watching it unravel with all of its intricacies. Final Fantasy hasn't really aimed for a simple narrative since the earlier SNES days. I'm not saying they always succeed in their execution, but when they do the results are pretty spectacular. I don't want them to turn it into a WRPG with a weak overarching plot, sacrificing narrative and character development for the sake of openness.

I also never understood the complaint about made up names in FFXIII. It's a Fantasy game. Every FF game, and pretty much every fantasy story in general has built their own worlds using new concepts and words to give the world its own unique life. Were the words fal'Cie and l'Cie just too much for people to handle?

Personally, I would love to see a new game that returns to the style of the PS1 FF games. I would also be happy with something in FFX's style as well -- which isn't too far off from FFXIII's style, except FFX was much better executed with more gameplay content and a more compelling narrative with a better script.

Simple doesn't mean weak. The overarching theme of a story should be accessible. The fine, intricate details of the plot should reveal themselves naturally and subtly. For example if you watch Adventure Time, it's a very simple show, any child can understand it, yet there are so many narrative details along the way that reveal something deeper that people can really dig into. Adventure Time and Final Fantasy is a pretty silly comparison, but you see my general point. The story can be complex without being an ugly twisted mess.

As for the nomenclature, if they made the story more interesting and accessible people would have easily become used to the names. However after hearing all these words a bazillion times and still having only a very basic gist of what it all meant, it just becomes really hard to care about any of it. And since the game is so linear, I have no chance to learn and soak things in for myself, it's just mumbo-jumbo that's forced upon me. Introduce new concepts gracefully and people will enjoy them.

I watched the movie "It" when I was pretty young, and I was scarred for life. I had nightmares for weeks about a clown coming to kill me during my sleep. :( Seeing that gif brought up bad memories! :P

Also it's nice to the Dice guys excited. Hoping for BF4 to be there at launch and looking great.

I never found It all that scary. Actually thought it was pretty hilarious.

Clownhouse, on the other hand, absolutely destroyed any urge I ever had to go to a circus.

Again, that's pretty much the case with every console generation. PC's outclass them vastly within a year if you are buying top range tech. PS4 when 'coding to the metal' will likely be able to showcase more advanced graphics than most high end PC's for at least a year or two (not talking about those PC guys with high end i7s, Titan cards and 16GB of Ram).

Games will always be 'held back' by consoles, but by the same token no developer ever works in a closed environment when developing for PC, so in a way PC kinda holds itself back as well ;)

True, true. Just a minor freak-out. Thanks!

leaks can be fun
remember this?

Ah that old Killzone 2 image heh.

Speaking of old images/gifs, I'm still moderately curious if that old but cool Tron-inspired, martial arts action in the rain gif from ages ago (the one that I think it was rumored to be Sucker Punch's game at one point, obviously before the new Infamous was confirmed? And maybe it really was just an early shot of Infamous' more advanced city with all the cameras, but I don't know if it really fits, plus the player character was female) thing actually exists or if that was a fake or cancelled game.

Another possibility I guess is that it could also be that that might have been an old work-in-progress, with placeholder character design, for Remember Me since at one time Sony was rumored to have it and the setting kind of fits along with the martial arts fighting.

Obviously there will have to be backwards/forwards computability between the XB1 and a potential XB1.5 in 2 years just like apps released for a new iOS device that work on the old phones if at a lower quality / performance. Eventually the older device will have to be cut off though but probably not until a 3rd iteration on the console.

Tech everywhere else gets updated hardware quickly now. PC have always done it but now phones, tablets, smart TV boxes and so on all get upgraded hardware super quickly compared to the normal 5+ year console cycle. MS wants to get xbox on that type of path.

Wouldnt be shocked if Sony tries it as well. Its probably a big reason behind the move to x86 processes and slightly modified off the shelf hardware.
