Sessler's review was well done. I'm really interested in the academic essay, Better Off Dead, that he mentioned during the review.

Oh wow, Polygon.

And to compare, they gave Remember Me 8.

Very surprised at all the positive reaction, especially the Edge and Eurogamer reviews. I don't think I've ever really liked a Naughty Dog game and I consider the Uncharted series especially overrated. That said, the fact that there is substantial praise for the gameplay of TLoU interspersed amongst the meaningless story praise is making me take attention, where I would have just written off this title getting undue accolades from the overzealous press again had it been the usual Citizen Kane bs. I think I'll actually give it a shot now.

There should be a demo out around release if you'd rather wait for that.

Probably bribed by Microsoft like Polygon.

Gamespot, who is owned by

CBS, who holds the rights to

Price is Right, which was featured in the reveal of

Xbone, which is a new console by

MICROSOFT!!!!!!

in case it's not clear and MamaRobotnik starts compiling quotes, I am joking

7.5 would have been a perfectly fine score to award any of the Uncharted titles. The cries of bias are ridiculous. Play the game, take a look at his criticisms afterward, and see if you can understand where he's coming from, regardless of how much you agree or disagree then.

I just remembered something completely unrelated to TLOU. Wasn't there something about reviews from Gamespot a couple of years ago being tainted? Or some journalistic integrity being tainted? I think it had something to do with Ratchet but I can't recall for sure. Does anyone remember or know what I'm talking about?

Probably bribed by Microsoft like Polygon.

LOL. I love this logic. b/c this would be enough to derail sales for this game? B/C MS has problems marketing and selling their games, right? And if MS WAS to bribe them, why just bribe two review outlets? hell, bribe metacritic, ign, giantbomb, eurogamer, edge to make a better impact.

Don't any other reviewer in here get taken out of the immersion when Ellie or any other NPC character can run into enemies without them noticing while you do your best sneaking around? Because that is the one major issue for me so far in the game.

Most else is outstanding.

It was either that or getting a game over every 4 seconds. It's frustrating enough as it is, at times, and you don't want players to start again a section for dumb AI.

Now I can't care any less about review scores BUT with that 7.5 amidst the higher scores, is there an ulterior motives here? I see people claiming being sponsored by MS/Xbox so is there reason to call bullshit? I mean, can't Naughty Dog investigate, are there laws being broke or is this standard practice?

Like I said, I don't care. I'm all over it. But the claims here make me think something more "dirty" is at play.
Lord, this is gonna be a repeat of the U3 thread isn it?

Jesus Christ.

Yesss...

Joel can also upgrade himself with pills and other supplements hidden throughout the adventure, though here you’ll also have to make careful choices, as there isn’t enough medicine in one playthrough to fully upgrade him. Likewise, all of your weapons, from pistols to shotguns and rifles, can also be upgraded using parts and tools found on your journey. Similarly, you won’t be able to max-out everything, so you’ll need to make thoughtful decisions. This adds an analytical, tactical slant to The Last of Us not found in the likes of Uncharted, though if you really want to upgrade Joel and his goods fully, you could always take advantage of The Last of Us’ very welcome New Game+ feature.

I don't know what's going on. Pure craziness. I didn't think it was possible to do much better than Uncharted 2. Hell, I'm on cloud nine playing Persona 4: the Golden right now. Just watched Silver Linings Playbook for the second time last night. Having this much good in such a short period of time is surely a bad thing. Beware of hype. Maybe I should steer clear from this thread.

Also, I must be the only one who think's a 7.5 is a really really good score. Especially since critics are beginning to get harder on games (despite the surplus of 8.5+ games).

Neither Uncharted 2 nor Bioshock are games worthy of incredible praise, from a gameplay percpetive. It's just a case of reviewers wanting to believe their medium of choice is worth more than it actually is, so anything that pretends to have good storytelling gets an inflated score. If the production values are good enough they'll proclaim it an all time classic. GTA, Uncharted, Bioshock, Mass Effect 2, Metal Gear, etc.

It's just bullshit.

There score stands out like a shit stain on the mona lisa.

It's obvious they scored it low for hits, and there going to get them.

Once again, fuck them. Hope they get black listed on GAF, and on Metacritic.

Video games.....serious business

People, you should be thrilled, the game is obviously insanely good, top echelon, Naughty Dog just created a new franchise, the next big thing

This could easily have been another 7s and 8s game, yet it is obviously according to all reviews combined a true triple A game, be happy, i am sure ND and Sony are thrilled.

The Polygon score surprised me but I haven't played the game, and the score and review is down to somebody's experience with the game.

Getting mad over numbers for a game you have no vested interest in (or even if you do - a review is subjective after all) is just ridiculous.

And comparing them to other reviews is even worse.

Phil Kollar gives Last of Us a 7.5. Arthur Gies gives Last of Us an 8. They are different people and both scores are merely opinions!

Lol Uncharted massacre all over again? (well at least not THAT bad)

"8.0????? Fuck them I knew they only love Microsoft"

Yeeeeeaaah. You guys have to be less entitled.

I played the demo and saw all multiplayer stuff and I am for sure I wouldn't be able to give it anything above 8.5 because the multiplayer is such a generic boring gamemode.

I wouldn't be able to be a reviewer or at least people would hate me, but I would also never give a full score.

A full score means to me a game without flaws, perfection in all ways for my taste. Never had such a game.

Keep it cool guys.

Was gonna rent this (I rent everything) but this might end up being the first game I've bought at launch since Halo 3.

Somehow this is feeling like this gen's RE4. A game I've replayed more than any other. If it's got anything like the lasting appeal of that game it'll be worth it.

I know nothing about the multiplayer though - any reviews mentioning it?
