The Last of Us - Review Thread [Emargo up, scores in OP.]

Getting a bunch of 10s doesn't mean anything. Uncharted 2 got great scores without being a good game. All you need is the right balance of exclusivity and pre-release hype, while attempting to be "deep" with a tacked on story that doesn't suit your gameplay. Bioshock did it just a few months ago. If you have the right budget it's pretty easy to get the press to cum all over your games.

Stopped reading there.

Very surprised at all the positive reaction, especially the Edge and Eurogamer reviews. I don't think I've ever really liked a Naughty Dog game and I consider the Uncharted series especially overrated. That said, the fact that there is substantial praise for the gameplay of TLoU interspersed amongst the meaningless story praise is making me take attention, where I would have just written off this title getting undue accolades from the overzealous press again had it been the usual Citizen Kane bs. I think I'll actually give it a shot now.

Now I can't care any less about review scores BUT with that 7.5 amidst the higher scores, is there an ulterior motives here? I see people claiming being sponsored by MS/Xbox so is there reason to call bullshit? I mean, can't Naughty Dog investigate, are there laws being broke or is this standard practice?

Like I said, I don't care. I'm all over it. But the claims here make me think something more "dirty" is at play.

People should play the game and then they are free to disect the review anyways ^^

Uh, no. Just an opinion like every review.

Oh wow, Polygon.

And to compare, they gave Remember Me 8.

This is the shit that pisses me off the most. Again, it's not about the opinion.

The person who reviewed the game can think whatever he wants to think.

IT"S THE SCORE ATTACHED. They knew it would stir controversy among the sony fanboys, and generate hits on N4G and other sites and they'll fucking get it.

96 on Metacritic.

And for now, my prediction has been vindicated.

I expect this number to fluctuate a few points and back from this point onwards, but for this moment, I declare myself a victor.

I'm surprised no one is bringing up Polygon being funded (or something) by Microsoft. Seems par for the course. Maybe the metldowns aren't big enough yet.

Edit: Oops, nope, there they go, I just missed them.

Why would Microsoft give money to a single site so they would score the game 'above average' instead of 'near-perfect'? Stop it, guys. Conspiracy theories are ridiculous and incredibly ignorant. Phil Kollar didn't like the game as much as some other people did. Fine. That's entirely possible. You disagree? That's reasonable, too.

But inventing crazy conspiracy theories: you're making an incredible fool of yourself.

Since my review will be posted in a non-gaming magazine later this month, I though I'd post some breif opinions of my own here.

1. This really feels like this generation's Resident Evil 4.
2. Possibly the best intro in any game I've ever played.
3. The E3 demo was a fairly accurate representation of how the game plays.
4. If you turn off listening mode from the start, the game hardly even mentions it exists. Never felt like I needed it; just turn the volume up and you'll be fine.
5. This is a long game. Took me
13
hours to beat.
6. Story is good, pacing is great and voice-acting is amazing.

This is coming from someone who adored Uncharted 2, but was dissapointed in Uncharted 3.

Much appreciated.
