Hatsune Miku Project Diva series general discussion thread

Anyone think since SEGA has a facebook page that they intend to announce the game at E3?

I would love if they brought over the 3DS games too, I played the demo for the first one and thought it was fun, but $70 is a bit much for one 3DS game for me to import...<_>

Unless you already have a Japanese 3DS on hand, that game is going to cost a lot more than $70 lol.

Finally!
Everybody party!

The leaked August release date on that Spanish site was true after all, this confirms once and for all that the FB thing was just a publicity stunt and the game was going to get a release regardless. Time to triple dip!

When was this brought up originally? I've forgotten.

Yeah, I got a Japanese 3DS back in 2011. I played the demo for the first one and loved it...I do have credit on Play-Asia but I'll wait until later this year maybe it will drop in price. I love Rhythm Games, totally preordering. :3 Do these games have DLC?

Around the same day as DIVA F's release in Japan actually. Here was the thread: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=520455

Some discussion happened in this thread as well, page 41.
Ah right, that. I still maintain the same thing I said about it earlier:
While it's nice to have peace of mind that it's definitely coming, it kind of ruins the fun a bit if we get a peek at the man behind the curtain, so to speak.
Also Koi-Nya is being cocky as hell with their news article reporting on the confirmation, adding a note that they "exclusively" had the August info back in March.

I torn with this. On one hand I want Project Diva F in English, but at the same time I don't want to support Sega's decision to shit all over the Vita.

I can't help but feel that they just earnestly want to give the franchise a shot here, and the logical move is to start by targeting the largest install base. If this release does well maybe they will be willing to branch out from there, but outright not supporting the franchise can't possibly help anyone.

Releasing the Vita version in digital-only form would require almost zero additional effort on their part. They're just being assholes at this point. About half of the people on the Facebook campaign asked for the Vita version. They're deliberately ignoring them.

My interest in seeing the Vita become a viable platform that publishers actually want to release games on is greater than my interest in seeing Project Diva becoming successful outside Japan.

The VITA and PS3 versions are essentially the same game, piss poor effort not bringing both across when all you need to do is copy and paste the text. Not that there is even much text to translate.

I wouldn't say the effort to release a game on Vita is as simple as flipping a switch; besides the usual need to pass through rating boards (a fixed cost), there could be all sorts of extra costs involved in getting on Sony schedule (which we know from DJMAX Technika Tune to be a hilariously bad game of hurry up and wait) and being charged to store the game on their download servers. If there was no risk involved they would just do it without being asked to.

But they've committed into doing a full-blown retail release on PS3, so clearly this isn't just a low-risk experiment, they intend on going all in. At this point, yes, they are definitely being jerks for not releasing the Vita version alongside as well.

I already beat the game on my Vita but playing it again on big screen PS3? Sony must really want me to skip the PS4 this year with all of these swan song releases.

English demo for Diva F is up on PSN, by the way.

link

Same three songs as the JP demo, so unless you've never played it before or want to play it again with all the menus and stuff in English, you can skip it.

So the game is available for preordering at GameStop now.

Some terminology changes observed in the demo:

Fine -> Good
Sad -> Bad
Worst -> Awful
Cheap -> Lousy
MISSxTAKE -> DROPxOUT

Demo only appears to have romaji lyrics. It's like the JP demo in that there are less options available than the full game though.

That's kinda sad. If the full game is also romaji lyrics only then the only real gain from that localization will be the ability to use the Edit Mode editor.

If they won't have translated lyrics then I'm not getting it for sure. That was really the only thing that would have pushed me into triple dipping in spite of their decision to kick PSP/Vita owners in the balls in typical Sega fashion (yes I'm still bitter over Valkyria Chronicles 3).

Of course if they change their mind and release the Vita version as well I will totally quadruple dip without hesitation.

As said, this is an early demo - the game isn't due out until August, and a lot could happen before then. I don't see them releasing the game without translated lyrics personally; it could just be that a translation wasn't ready at the time this demo was cut and these are placeholders, or they're working on new programming to make it a toggle.

Tried the demo earlier (never played any Miku games before). Question...

What do you do when its an arrow with a "w" on it?

You need to hit both the arrow and the corresponding face button (so, for a Down arrow, you'd hit Down + X).

As for the "W", it's a common way for Japanese to write the word "double" as the pronunciations are similar. (Not to be confused with a lowercase w, which is Internet shorthand for laughing, like "lol".)

Doh.... and I actually did know that "W" was used that way in Japan. Didn't occur to me though. All right, thanks for the info.

Posting some selected Weekly Diva Station updates from yesterday (6/13), since there's been some news for Project mirai 2:

Some additional details about Project mirai 2's gameplay systems. There are two modes of gameplay - touch and button mode. Each mode has three difficulties, meaning each song has six different gameplay charts.

20130613_picture1.jpg

The game display is on the top screen. As the circles close you will need to tap the colored section of the bottom screen with your stylus.

20130613_picture2.jpg

Hold your stylus to the screen for holds. Don't use excessive force!

20130613_picture3.jpg

For a rainbow colored line, you'll need to draw circles with your stylus. You'll collect a future point, "mirapo" for doing this!

Notes with arrow marks require you to swipe the stylus in that direction instead of simply tapping.

20130613_touch3.jpg

The difficulty determines the number of colors used, from one to three.

20130613_picture9.jpg

Button mode uses the face buttons, A, B, X, and Y. Note you can also use the d-pad to substitute for the face buttons.

20130613_picture10.jpg

Rainbow lines are similar, except you will need to spin the circle pad while holding the labeled button.

20130613_picture11.jpg

Another new feature are double presses where you will need to press both the face button and the corresponding direction on the d-pad at once. This will not be used in the easy difficulty if this looks like it's too much for you!

The result screen has been changed a bit since the last time we saw it.

Also, some songs and costumes shown:

Also, the vocal change feature from the first game (where you have a choice of vocalist for the song, limited to certain characters) is still present:

And as a special treat, Snow Miku 2013:

So question, I just bought the Vita version after owning the PS3 version for about two months now. Transferred my saves and everything all well, and have been working on passing all the songs on Extreme again.

Because I own the PS3 version and Vita, I should be able to get the extra songs for free, correct? I registered my Project Diva -F- on my account (same PSN account, JP region) and looked at the store on my Vita and found the Project Diva -f- おおもじパック, but it doesn't have any option to download (or even purchase) it. No price listed, nothing; just a description of what the pack is and reviews for it. So how do I download it?

After playing the Project Diva F demo on the PS3 for hours today, I seriously want this game on my vita. Would it be wise to import project diva f this late in the game? Even though they haven't announced the vita localization, I wonder what the odds of it happening are.

DO IT.

I just got it last week. I can speak and write basic Japanese, but even if you don't, navigation is very easy and there are good guides on the net that explain everything.

I got tired of waiting. Import it and enjoy it now.

Not for free, but with 50% off. Not sure if that promotion is still valid, though. Do you have the retail or the PSN PS3 version?

Retail.

I'm more confused by the fact I can't even seem to buy it for any amount. Literally. There's no buy, download, price, or anything on the item's store page. It's like it's blocking me from even considering getting it, which is only true of this item. I could download all the other DLC if I wanted to, but not this one.

Ah, I think I know what the problem is. You should have gotten "Tell Your World" for free. The pack you're trying to buy has all six new songs (incl. "Tell Your World"), but since you already have that one song, it's blocking you from buying it. There should be another pack with just five songs, this is the one you have to buy. I don't know how to type Japanese, so I can't give you the exact name of that pack, but it's listed with all the other Project Diva f DLC (at least on PS3).

Edit: Copied the name from the official site, it's "追加楽曲セット"

Okay! It'll be my very first imported game :D

This is well documented at this point, but just be warned that while you can play the imported card on any region PSN account, if you're not on a Japanese PSN account you will not be able to make use of the game's DLC or data sharing functions. I believe the process to switch accounts is outlined in the first post of the monthly Vita PSN thread, but in a nutshell it requires a system reset and you have to either wipe your memory card (after having made a backup before starting the process) or use a second one.

So I guess the 1500 yen promotion is still good?

Pretty unlikely at this point. Half of the people on the facebook campaign specifically asked for the Vita port and they ignored them. Sega has a pretty bad track record at supporting Sony handhelds outside Japan. PSO2 is also only getting its PC version localized while the Vita version is left out in the cold.

Basically, if it doesn't have Sonic in it then forget it (they released that mario kart clone and that's pretty much it)
