...... ... I could totally see that.

Weird.

You have awful taste if you don't think at least Little Mac and a Golden Sun rep need to become playable.

Little Mac is the closest there is to a character that I think needs to be in. But I won't be all that disappointed if he isn't included.

That would be a shitty decision, this king of fighting crossover games are not only done for being fighting games, but a museum of sorts. Thats why you will always need to include new characters.
Also theres still some characters that havent appeared that could be cool in the roster, and even characters from new IPs like xenoblade.

I didn't mean that they shouldn't include any new characters. Just that I think Brawl's roster is really good and I hope they just expand on it a little. They do that then the rest of the roster will just be "whatever" to me.

I beg to differ. Battle Network is really recognizable to the young adult crowd. He would also pull in more of the anime crowd. Plus his battle style would be really unique with the buster and the sword. They can also do a chip based battle style.

Nintendo vs Capcom, maybe, but you're fooling yourself if you think BN Mega Man is bigger than Classic just because he had an Anime series.

It's why I think Pac-Man will get in over any other Namco character, Smash has always been about choosing the characters that best represent the image of the franchise, and with Mega Man it's always Classic first and foremost.

Again, I agree, GAMEPLAY-WISE, Battle Network could bring more to the table. But Sakurai/Nintendo doesn't think the same way Capcom does when they make crossovers.

I'm still not convinced Mega Man will make it in any form. However, if the rumors are true about Capcom debuting a new Mega Man title at E3, I can see them striking a deal with Nintendo allowing them to use this new Mega Man whether it's existing or a whole new design.

Interesting. Honestly I think the smash roster is unique in the sense that almost every character is justified in a way. There's really no one that stands out for the chopping block or any character that people would unanimously agree on.

Yep. Remember the Forbidden Seven? Smash Bros. is characteristic for having fans for each and every of its characters. Unlike other fighting game franchises, no one wants cuts in Smash. That's actually a problem for Nintendo, but I feel we all know that overgrowing the roster isn't all that simple and new characters are vital for making the game feel fresh. I think there are going to be cuts this time.

Just don't cut Red. Cut other people's mains, you know?

Fake edit:
Perhaps they should invent a mechanic for cut characters. Have them appear not exactly in Assist capsules, but retain them in a similar, special form.

So excited!!!!

What I want from the smash team:
-Take out those fox clones. Maybe add that rabbit/frog (lol, I have yet to play a starfox game)
-Instead of Lucario, have that new Mewtwo evolution
-Add another character from the Metroid universe. Adam? Anthony?
-If Retro is making an new IP, have him/her/it in the game as well *.*
-Add Mallo from Pushmo/Crashmo

Well you're definitely not alone, but I think she's a reminder of the humor behind Smash. Would I miss her if she was replaced? Not really, but I won't be excited or bothered if she's in the next one.

The fact that they chose to drop Mewtwo but keep her in pissed me off to no end.

So this page has some Jigglypuff hate. Screw you, you can eat her monster dick.

She is worthless! Not even a running gag in the anime anymore she needs to be cut like that annoying tree in your path. Search your heart, YOU KNOW IT TO BE TRUE!

Now what would be the backlash if Ice Climbers for the boot......anyone?

I would rampage.

Why?

Close enough to clones that they should either not come back or have their movesets heavily altered. Falco can be an alt costume honestly. Wolf should just have a completely different moveset focusing on heavy weapons or something.

Lucario is about as relevant to the pokemon anime now as Jigglypuff, he needs to be eliminated for the glorious return of our king Mewtwo.

Ridley and Dark Samus. Let me explain myself:

- Ridley is a no-brainer. Samus's nemesis, Space Pirates rep.
- Dark Samus may look like Samus externally but has a vastly different background and abilities. She would be a Metroid Prime rep and also
an actual Metroid character; Metroid Prime itself. Imagine the Final Smash!
- Having two Metroid villains and only Samus against them is very fitting for Metroid's nature. It's Samus versus the shady world once again.

Brawl came out years after Lucario's movie. Brawl can't be "promoting the movie". Lucario was there because he was popular, and he still is.

Nintendo vs Capcom, maybe, but you're fooling yourself if you think BN Mega Man is bigger than Classic just because he had an Anime series.

It's not just the anime series, though. Through the early half of the 2000s, EXE/BN was big business for Capcom; it was practically EVERYWHERE (especially in Japan). It was likely the main reason that the brand was relevant, while the various X and Zero games released around the time got middling success, at best.

But perhaps the biggest thing was that EXE was the thing that kept kids interested in Rockman. Without that kind of aspect, you're left with a brand that largely caters to 20-30-somethings that can't let go of MM2, which is part of the reason the brand is in the trouble it's in now.

If Capcom is indeed trying to have something new MM debuted at E3, I do hope that they follow Sega's route and immediately try to vie for the Nintendo demographic that almost always is receptive to MM-anything. And if they haven't already kicked down Sakurai's door asking/telling them that they want this character in Smash, then well...

To the bolded, HAHAHAHA!
Have fun with that.

To the clones part.

No , not really all their normal's are completely different, and wolfs specials operate completely different

Or do normal not exist?

They should make costumes a big focus in this version, as a way of diversifying the character selection without having to "clone" characters. For example, adult Link has OoT/Twilight Princess/Skyward Sword varieties, or Dr. Mario is a costume for Mario. Perhaps costumes could make some change to the character's abilities, like a unique move or slightly modified stats.

Why?

Okay, maybe they are not clones, but they look so much alike and have some similar moves. I just want more varied characters I guess :P

If we get the Mewtwo evo it'd be the closest thing to getting Mewtwo back without actually having him back. I liked Mewtwo.

Should be getting Bayo, Shulk and the W101 guy.

Maybe a Last Story or Pandora's Tower character as well?

Couldn't imagine Sonic not returning.

Will probably get a Tekken or Soul Calibur character. Goku would be a megaton.

Also Project X Zone makes me think we'll get something from Capcom as well. Mega Man is the obvious answer but someone from Street Fighter or Resident Evil doesn't seem out of the question either.

I think your assessment of BN is correct (especially the bolded) but the timing of the MM franchise is such that the capital that BN built up doesn't exist anymore. It kept the franchise alive in the early to mid 2000's and was massively popular and commercialized, but it hasn't received any recognition in a few years. I know the producer wants to revisit the series, and with BN as my 2nd favorite MM series behind X I really hope they do, but for now the timing seems a bit awkward.

For those curious, Japan received about six seasons (of varying length) of Battle Network anime, and tons of merchandise. We received about 2-3 seasons (some episodes from the original Japanese run didn't air at all) if I recall correctly, and a decent proportion of the merchandise.

I don't even think that would work for megeman.

Because sonic , still does well. Sonic and friends good or bad, has never been out of the kids minds. His comic does well, his T.V show did well, Dispite neogaf's dislike of sonic's friends, they are quite popular. He is still very cool. Unlike megaman, who kinda fell off. The best analogy for megaman's situation is west coast hip hop.

I do agree with most of what you are saying though.

All their normal's are different.

the share 4 moves and a super.

Out of all the moves they have.

But sure, I guess they could change one of their specials.

It's a form, not an evolution. I imagine it'll have a form change mechanic, perhaps a gauge of sorts or something related to its Final Smash. So, both old and new Mewtwo will be in the game, if at all.

Can definitely agree on the last part. But I would still argue Smash Brothers have been more about iconic reps than popularity and Classic is still the face of the franchise, that's all.

Oh, I see. I'd be okay with more character transformations too!

Clearly neither of you read the fact that I said to the pokemon anime. Either way he was there to promote the new ds games and new pokemon gen so that not all the pokemon reps were from the first gen. 4th gen has passed and so has his time, I'm not asking for the Sonic shitty friend's reject that is Zoroark to replace him, but Mewtwo with his awakened form would do better as a bridge to new and old gens.

Also, sure they have minor differences like which way their specials launch somebody but they all look basically like the same crap. Gun, vertical dash, horizontal dash, shield. There needs to be more variation in their movesets. Falco seriously just needs to be an alt costume at this point there's no point in him being there at all besides being a returning veteran. He does basically the same thing as Fox anyways.

A better and stronger up/side/down smash would work wonders.

Falco and Wolf could honestly just be alt costumes to Fox and I'd be okay with it, so I agree with you there. As for Lucario, his inclusion in Smash isn't because of the anime but because he is basically the poster child for the 4th generation of Pokemon. Still, I could see him getting the shaft as well. By the way, Mewtwo's new "evolution" is actually an alternate form, so if he is in (and I really do think he will be), we would be getting both the original and the new, possibly with a Sheik/Zelda-like transformation. And finally, as much as I love Pushmo/Crashmo, there's no way Mallo is getting in beyond being an assist trophy. Even Dillon has a better chance.

Edit: Beaten on a lot of this...

Agreed. Zero suit is so pointless. I hate using the smash because I don't want to deal with it.

Samus just needs a complete overhaul in general, IMO. She's been a bit shit since the first game, really.

Actually, I'd quite like it if they re-did most of the returning character's movesets. Some of the characters that have been around since the N64 game are starting to get a little stale, and they have a much larger pool of games to pick moves from nowadays.

My statement still stands.
Lucario in the anime took over Zoroarks place in 5th gen. Also sonic is the shitty friend, but that is another conversation all together. ( I have realized recently most of his friends are better ideas than he is)

anyways, lucario is a very VERY popular pokemon. Along with increased power of the wii u, There is no reason to take him out, just add the new mew two.

That is it.

To the bolded

What are normals

Forget Lil' Mac. Put in one of the opponents, who are infinitely more appealing and more iconic than Lil' Mac. King Hippo would be my guess. Everyone remembers King Hippo, and you can add a lot more variety to a moveset using a character like that.

Other acceptable characters would be Bald Bull, Great Tiger or Piston Hondo.

Aw, Mallo is just such a cutie. I'd love to play as him in smash. I hope there is at least a stage from his world.

Yeah. A plain guy in a boxing outfit can't really compete with a fire breathing dragon, comically disproportional plumber and an armored space bounty hunter.

I believe Lucario was only in there to promote Generation IV of Pokémon which was the latest generation; it had very little to do with the anime. Generation II was the latest one when Melee came out, and had representation through Pichu

As such, assuming that this one comes after October, Generation VI will be the one that needs a focus...
