I think your assessment of BN is correct (especially the bolded) but the timing of the MM franchise is such that the capital that BN built up doesn't exist anymore. It kept the franchise alive in the early to mid 2000's and was massively popular and commercialized, but it hasn't received any recognition in a few years. I know the producer wants to revisit the series, and with BN as my 2nd favorite MM series behind X I really hope they do, but for now the timing seems a bit awkward.

I don't even think that would work for megeman.

Because sonic , still does well. Sonic and friends good or bad, has never been out of the kids minds. His comic does well, his T.V show did well, Dispite neogaf's dislike of sonic's friends, they are quite popular. He is still very cool. Unlike megaman, who kinda fell off. The best analogy for megaman's situation is west coast hip hop.

Exactly. And that's all the more reason why I think that Capcom was foolish to really just "throw up their hands" after awhile when it came to the whole Ryuusei/Starforce debacle. Even if the games weren't all that good (at first, at least), they never should have had Rockman leave the public conscious like that. Now the pressure is really on them to find a way to reintroduce the character to the masses, when you have a whole generation of kids who don't even know who Rockman is beyond "that game that my older brother/Dad used to play".

If Sega did similar with Sonic just because it had a few bad spells, their mascot character would be in the same predicament.

Can definitely agree on the last part. But I would still argue Smash Brothers have been more about iconic reps than popularity and Classic is still the face of the franchise, that's all.

Usually, I agree that is the case. But then again, Smash was also used as a vehicle to peddle Roy, who would star in a new Fire Emblem game would get released a year later.

8-Bit MM would be fine appearing in Smash. But I would think that if Capcom is going to go in a different direction with the character (whatever that may be, EXE/BN or something brand new), it probably would make more sense to have the newcomer be the representative, since he's the one who may have the entirety of the brand's future resting on his shoulders...

Yeah Samus was a weak link. What annoyed the most was that Cap didn't need that bad off a nerf. Marth who was arguably the best in Melee went virtually unchanged.

Wonder if we'll get patches this time around.

They could have just put out an anime fore the guy. That made bey blade , frucken beyblade, relevant again. All they need is an anime, and to advertise to the kids.

I remember seeing a cartoon movie for that, I wanted more I wanted to know what it was about. And then that was it , I saw nothing else, younger kids might have bought those games if they kept up with it.

Ike was the most fun to play of the newcomers for me. Would be kinda weird if they replaced him, since his gameplay revolved around the fact that he has a big-ass sword and I don't think any of the potential Awakening candidates could fill that role.

If anything Kid Icarus: Uprising is a pretty decent indication. Fast paced action, with 6 players. No lag whatsoever in my experience. And there's so much shit going on, explosions, lasers, and turrets from everywhere.

Those Pokémon are completely different though. It makes no sense for them to have similar moves
