MS Cancels 1 on 1 Interviews with GB, GI.biz, Tapezilla...MCV?: "Scheduling conflict"

This is getting interesting!! Haha!

So only Kotaku is still in the race? If they really get a 1 on 1 interview, then sure as hell the whole world will be paying VERY CLOSE attention to every question they might be asking. And if they don't ask about all that DRM/NoUsedGames stuff, maaaany people will be pissed!
You're nuts if you don't think ST - or any journalist given the opportunity - is going to ask about that stuff.

I have a feeling that MS E3 showing is gonna be one for the books; it has to be with all this bad PR swirling around...

Expectations are now so low for some people, it might not seem that bad...

In these days you could get the impression that the whole PR department for the XBone is falling apart or run by autistic loonies. God damn, pull yourself together, MS.

Like, they have to walk such a narrow line on non-answers and half truths they aren't sure they can keep it up across multiple interviews? I can kind of see that.

Well, if the press and community are all asking the very same questions, why not just keep it all in one airtight self-produced Q&A session? The wording can be chosen as carefully as is possible and they can be happy with what they want to say on the subject. Less confusion in messaging, less redundancy in interviews, and more control over their answers. Of course, there may well be just enough convenient economy with truth and facts as any real-time interview could offer. At this point, I think they kinda need to do it this way after letting the community build up when they won't reply to all of the rumors and talk. They certainly don't have the magic shield that Sony has had over the last few months, and that's really MS' fault for not stepping carefully.

Maybe they learned at least ONE lesson throughout this process and that is to get all your ducks in a row and limit the amount of interviews and the amount of people responding to questions so each answer doesn't contradict the previous one and confuse people even more. If they had just a few guys spouting the PR nonsense instead of 20, they might be able to spin it to a positive without still giving the real information. Basically, if you don't give the press a chance to ask the hard questions and report on it, maybe they'll have less negativity overall and get more people to buy the console that didn't hear about the negatives. If the press was all over it, more and more people would be aware of some of the problems.

Either that or they know journalists (not Polygon) will be pressed to ask tough questions and get some clarification on some of the E3 news. Maybe they expect a lot of bad press?

I suppose it's number one or both, but it'd be funny if the only lesson they got out of all of this is that they need to be more consistent with their PR spin instead of actually realizing that some of their policies are only hurting them. 1 out of 100 lessons has to be a success for a company acting arrogant though.

They are supposed to learn these lessons during the launch of their FIRST 2 consoles, not 6 months before launching their 3rd.

So Michael French said that he was told by Microsoft a week ago that there would be no access to executives at all during E3. He also said that MS executives were on "lockdown."

Today, Major Nelson said that it was due to "scheduling conflicts" after news spread of cancellation of the 1-1 interviews and their Q&A session.

Major Nelson still hasn't posted his "rounded-up" information regarding used games and DRM that he promised would be posted before E3.

Now we wait.

I hope you made this. Classic!

It will be posted after the press conference , I'd disable the comment section on his blog if I was him

I wouldn't look too much into this, unless of course there is absolutely no interviews with any Microsoft exec at all during E3. That's when we could classify it as a dodge. If I were running Microsoft, I would do the same thing.

Way too many people are saying way too many conflicting and confusing things. They need a clear, straightforward message. It's better they send one guy to do the major interviews, as opposed to having like 5 or more people saying different things.

Aaaaaaaaand here it is again.

"Alright finally, lets tackle, what I think, is the biggest challenge with scheduling interviews. Anybody? For me it's finding out what I have scheduled, and keeping up with it!"

Next we'll be hearing that M$ has decided to hold its E3 conference at their headquarters in front of an audience made up exclusively of their own employees.

A post-it note on stage with the words "No DRM, Hella games" would be enough at this point.

If they say 'hella' in their conference it would turn me off worse than DRM.

Whenever he walks on stage at a MS presser I think "Oh fuck off will you" because I know what he has to say will be of zero interest

What is worse?

a. the condition of Sony in the years of their long powerpoint conferences where they talked about the lightyears they were ahead in sales on Gamecube and Xbox and about the next gen that doesn't start when we say so crap?

or

b. Microsoft these days?

I don't know.

Anyway it shows that succes can do bad things to people.

So glad one the cancellations was GiantBomb considering how much they fucking embraced all the shit MS was regurgitating and calling a 5 course dinner.

No one should ever delete a twitter comment. It's already out there and when you do, you look like you have something to hide. (Not saying he did, but I can't find it.)
It does imply he misunderstood the situation and had to delete it, if it was seriously just scheduling conflicts it probably could've stayed.
