I'm not too sure really, I'm not making any assumptions, just going off the information that we've received from various execs etc. This is the situation at the moment.
Of course, no point in jumping to conclusions. My point really is that I think this is simply the way the industry is going. And whilst Sony may have decided not to force anything, there's a fair chance they done so knowing that the publishers will take their own measures. As I said in another thread earlier. As a publisher, if you can effectively cut down on used sales, lending and force more people in to buying new copies or licences, why wouldn't you? Most have basically made clear that this is what they want to happen. And if MS have put in place a system for them to do that, in reality, why won't they do that on the PS4?

Of course, they may decide against it, but these are business, who's first priority is to make money. And since they know they can get away with it, I'd be surprised if they didn't.

I am expecting to see some amazing looking games at E3 but probably won't be impressed now that Xbox One's gpu is downclocked.

The dream is dead. You kept hope alive when it had fled, but it's time to let go. Let go Shaneus. Let go, it's okay. We're here, you're not alone.

Just let go....
NO.

I'm not changing my avatar until the 11th.

It's a 'One more thing...'

We'll make it through this.

It's new but it's not one of the 15!

If I had to bet out of their 15 exclusives

8 E3
2 Gamescon
1 TGS
4 E3 2014 (plus more announced but release outside of the 1st year launch window)

Along with third party exclusives that should be a good sum for both E3's.
This is what we know so far:
Ryse
Forza 5
Quantum Break
Rare's game

+ The the announcement at Gametrailers' pre-show (could be Rare's game, though)

5-6 is basically a given. 7-8 games sounds plausible.

?

Just sounds like it's hard to produce ESRAM cheaply on a massive scale. I don't see where downclock plays in.
My understanding, which could well be wrong, was that the ESRAM was causing some issues and so there was an increase in failing units. So the idea was to stabilize them by downclocking resulting in fewer failed units.

The other option, of course, would be to eat the cost and keep producing them as is simply dumping the failed one's.

I think it's going to be the later. Microsoft will probably switch to another manufacturer like they always did with the 360's internal components.

Mixing low power states with digital games, can we expect DD preorders that download overnight?

I'd like to see it taken one step further. Preorder the game on XBL then it downloads in the days leading up to release in the background or in low power state. Then 12 midnight day of release DL a key that unlocks it. No more standing outside in the cold northeast winters for my games at midnight.

I think it's why Microsoft hasn't revealed the price yet as they're still in the process of negotiating manufacturer contracts.

Microsoft revealed the price of Xbox 360 like in August. I don't think it is anything abnormal that they haven't talked price. Price and Date are typically the last things we'll hear about, and for good reason.

Oh my days I just saw the 'spread the word thread'. Hilarious! OP makes it sound like the apocalypse.

Heh, I didn't even go into the thread but it seems like what I assumed it would be is in fact what it is :P

Oh my days I just saw the 'spread the word thread'. Hilarious! OP makes it sound like the apocalypse.

Somebody said this thread has a case of "Stockholm Syndrome." The patronizing and "holier than thou" business going on in general recently is bothering me. People find it astonishing that me and my group of friends are really looking forward to the Xbox- I'm nearly 30 and have been playing games for 20+ years now regularly. Hell, I'm a physician and I still work in gaming as much as I can.

Don't pretend that your opinion is any more valuable than mine or that you know what's best for the gaming industry.

Yeah I've heard battered wife syndrome. It's all laughable though, people looking forward to the X1 acknowledge and sympathise with those it can't cater too, but there are NO disadvantages for some of us here (as this thread has progressed tonight a few of us see many advantages).

They're not looking at it rationally if they're saying it's going to kill gaming and that they can't understand why anyone would like it. In fact it smacks of ignorance and that leads to spiteful OTT outrage.

I just called my mom and warned her because of that thread. She told me she doesn't have an Xbox One or even one Xbox and then hung up on me. I tried.

Hahaha. That reminds me, I told my nephew the other day about X1 and the requirements, he was most pissed that gamerscore/achievements didn't carry over. Until I told him they did, then he was all like "oh cool!"

Yeah. Interesting thread. Not getting sucked in their though. It's a TRAP. Lol.

Nah. The hyperbole of negativity will be in full force leading to E3, MS got ahead of it with Major's Tweet followed by this policy reveal.

It's going to be interesting to see how this all plays out.

Must of had Stockholm Syndrome for well over 15 years now when I was playing Half Life with my broadband connection in the background always online. Woe is me.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Product_binning

read that.

Factor in a a target number of consoles for a target release date.

Downclocking may be the only way to meant those target numbers.

There are other options, of course, like pushing out the release date or releasing with fewer units than originally planned.

You can't assume downclocks just because of ESRAM problems but it is one of the possible decisions Microsoft could make faced with that rumored situation. Can't assume any of it is true at this point, though, and most consumers won't know and fewer will care.

Actually skimming that thread, it's good to see a lot of people saying 'This doesn't bother me'.

No its bloody not. They're just accepting anti consumer BS and less value proposition for consumers globally, simply because they themselves have never used the benefits previously afforded to them.

It's good that it doesn't affect them and they can get an X1 without any worry, what's wrong with that? Why should they be thinking of others when making their game console of choice purchase? I went over this the other day so the question is rhetorical.
