"Fantasy based on reality"

Yeah, they definitely haven't scrapped the modern stuff. Simply a different locale or at least a different look in the day.

The "fantasy based on reality" line, AFAIK, is used because Nomura has used some tragic real-life Yakuza event as a basis/inspiration for the story.

I really wonder what the morale is like for the development team. It looks like it's had such a troubled history. If they ever do a post-mortem...

Kagari is OK. I can feel her presence.

She is in a state of shock but is in stable condition.

It will take time to come to terms with what just happened.

not the XIII fans pretending that this didnt just destroy XIII which everyone will forget is coming out now

A game released 6yrs later – and on a NEW hardware – being more ambitious? Call me surprised!

Scripted set pieces out the ass. I feared as much from those trailers they showed way back when.

Some of that looks like a Japanese version of God of War/Uncharted. This is not what I play Final Fantasy for.

Semi real time system ATB based. Hack n' slash meets turn based. You can dodge attacks too. It's actually quite fun and fluid. I'd prefer not to be standing in a circle politely waiting to be poisoned because those are the rules in all of my JRPGs

Hmm, it would be interesting to see, but I can't wrap my mind around how fluid some of the movement looks other than heavily scripted events.

Still, looks beautiful.

That site says "clarified here in this quote" then posts a quote which clarifies nothing at all. Well done.

think so, still waiting for square to clear it up though.

We should assume it isn't exclusive, and that there's a possibility it's not entirely worked out yet or that they weren't sure at the time they made that trailer.

Honestly, I think those were just for the show. What's a final fantasy game without long stretches of fighting hordes of money dropping wildlife? I don't think we should have XIII expectations from this, it's not the same team after all. Nomura and the KH team are a lot better than Toriyama & co at creating fairly linear experiences that feel larger. If what they're saying about the gameplay is true, I'm expecting the ability to freely move between areas after a certain point, and some interesting side quests that tie in with side character development at the very least. It's really unlikely to be all tunnels and QTEs.

Goddamn hilarious that people bought a PS3 for this back then and now Versus is XV. All these years...

Amazing trailer. Fucking Nomura! Still one of my most anticipated games from any gen, so I'll welcome it with open arms whenever it comes out. Good thing the PS4 is such an attractive proposition right now, I was thinking of bailing out of consoles completely but this is the kind of thing that keeps me in (I don't care about it being exclusive or not, it's just that the Xbone doesn't interest me in the slightest).

Where did they get that information from? Tales From The Ass?

Also, has any Tetsuya Nomura directed game ever been multiplatform at the time of the release?
No but, aside from KH and KHII, none of them have really been released on systems with contemporary parallels...though I guess they could've ported BBS to Wii, maybe.

So glad they changed the name. Finally the legacy of shit that was FF13 can die.

As for PS4 exclusive, the same people saying we'd see it at E3 and renamed to XV were saying Sony was helping out with dev weren't they? We'll see.

It's not funny!!! I was one of those people. I feel so duped ;_;

Not that I regret getting a PS3 but it does kinda deflate a lot of my initial excitement over getting one. Maybe I should have shipped PS3 and just got a PS4 if they're backward compatible

Must admit, the trailer was impressive. Although I have no clue how all that will actually play. So much shit going on.

It was always going to be more action/KH based
Not sure why people are surprised.

I know, and I remember Nomura saying they were going for "cinematic experiences" and all that jazz way back.

Still, it's considerably more of a departure than even FF13 was. Way more, actually. Calling it Final Fantasy 15 doesn't sit well with me.

At least at some point Nomura said that it felt like they were doing FFVII again (apparently they had a positive buzz back then). Not sure if the atmosphere has stayed that positive during the years of being thrown around helping different projects.

no, i just assume that a game "that was originally intended as a playstation exclusive" and has only been mentioned for the PS4 thus far, is an exclusive.

Up until now every trailer has had "exclusively on Playstation 3." This one didn't. That should be your answer right now.

If the rumors about Sony's involvement were true, it may be that they're working out an exclusivity agreement. Maybe a timed window. I'd say that if you're rooting for exclusivity, that should be the most you hope for.

The whole 'Nomura does exclusives' thing is kind of absurd. Before FFXIII, all Final Fantasies were exclusive. Times change. I'm not saying it is coming to XBO, I think it could go either way, but the decision will have nothing to do with Nomura's history of directing single platform games.

KH still isnt multiplat tho so times might not have changed :/

Pretty much this.

Nomura is an employee of Square Enix. He may have a fanboy allegiance at heart but ultimately his opinion won't be under consideration. It'll be purely financial. If indeed Sony helped with development (manpower or money) then SE will certainly owe them some return on investment. A money hat may also be a possibility. But no sane developer would ever listen to the whim's of their director just because fuck Xbone.

Not funny, I've been waiting for this game since its first announcement back in 2006, and if it's no longer exclusive to the Playstation platforms, it'll make me hate Square-Enix more than ever
