Dark Souls 2 E3 Gameplay Demo Footage

I fucking love Dark Souls, but for some reason I'm not feeling this at all.

Not even sure why. Graphically not really impressive either, but maybe I'm jaded from all the graphic behemoths from the last 24 hours.

At like 2:30 you can see the new backstabs they were talking about. Looks pretty weird. The new animations they added for dual weilding look cool though.

Ugh something is very off with the animation and combat...

They are quicker and there are more animations. Heavy weapons still handle like heavy weapons and they subsidized the Pyromancy and Spells to all be cast by the staff (this is very likely to be only for the demo).

Everything else is more fluid/the same from Dark Souls. Hitting walls cancels attacks. Enemies still punish you for mistakes. Maneuvering plays an important role.

Unless you have more evidence there is a problem.

Also it is highly likely the player is overleveled for the demo so people can actually play the game without dying. The enemies are clearly from early areas but the guy took some heavy hits and lived.

Yep. The animation looks super janky. Hope its because its an early build.

It stands out even more because DaS has such fluid movement and combat animation.

Also EVERYONE keeps saying how the graphics look so much better. IMO they look like a downgrade. Is that supposed to be PC footage? I have never really experienced Dark Souls on console, so maybe it is an improvement.

I can't frigging wait. After playing twice a "hybrid" (Roya, Pyromancer) I fell in love with the Silver Knight Spear on my 2nd character on PC Dark Souls (Dex-Pyro). Will be playing Spear + Shield No matter what.²³²³²³

Eh, I haven't watched the whole thing and don't want to, but it looks fine to me. Not sure what you guys are on about.

Yup. The animations look less refined and dynamic than OG Dark Souls, hopefully thats because its still in development, because surely they don't intend on releasing the game like this...

BUT

Capes and cloaks are HYPE!

Everything else except the character animations look very cool though.

The animations are different but I like the speed. The roll speed and distance of the light looking dual swordsman is great.

I think these games are something you have to play to really 'get'.

I'd seen a decent amount of Dark Souls gameplay, not really understanding the hype, but then once I played it, I understood what all the fuss was about.

I trust them.

And I'll probably go on a media blackout from here on out in terms of footage. I'll be glad to hear more gameplay/online details, though.

Oh cmon guys. We all know that Souls games are somewhat boring on videos. It always been this way. Doesn't change the fact that they're still the best game we played this gen.

I don't see much difference in the animations, it looks good to me. Maybe I just haven't played Dark Souls in a while to tell, though.

I think I've seen enough to go on media blackout from this point forward.

Hmm, is it me or is there no BS or parry/riposte in the demo? Curious to see the animations in action.

There are a few backstabs shown. The animation is different and multi hit though, it's not a stab through the body.

Ah thanks, that's why I must have missed it -- was expecting the classic through the body stab animation. Will watch it again.

Hopefully it will give that similar sense of satisfaction in pvp.

Nope, it's a weird multi hit attack (with those weapons, at least) that can apparently wiff now.

Any chance this will be coming to Xbox1 and PS4? I really don't want to have my new consoles and have to play this on my old one :(

Animations look a little weird, but it's WAY too early to get worried. Heck, "gamey" animations that look bad in footage often mean a better-playing game.

Also, very relieved to hear they nerfed backstabs and made enemies more wary to circlestrafing.

Not confirmed, but it shouldn't be hard since the lead platform is PC. GOTY edition, maybe.

Man I hope you are right. I really want this on next gen...if for nothing else the controllers are soooo much better (IMO)

That gttv interview was terrible. Soft leading questions with non answers or stuff that was already mentioned vaguely months ago.

The IGN one is even worse. Literally nothing new was said, they just described things that were in Dark Souls 1 as if they were new ideas. Also, why they are describing classes as distinct characters with different abilities? I hope they don't remove the freedom to customize your character.

I was very excited by the footage. The enemy designs all look very creepy and fit the aesthetic, the weapon animations remind me more of Demon's Souls, and that new spell that creates a sword swing is one of my favorite new additions. Also, the big guys with maces and shells on their backs are my favorite new enemies.

One thing that did surprise me was how slow some of the enemies were; while the turtle-shell guys do move quickly, a lot of the enemies seemed to be walking nearly stationary. Maybe they'll seem faster when I play the game. Another thing I'm worried about are the "drop stones of healing" shown in the first IGN trailer; the grass system in Demon's Souls really didn't work because you could either run out of grass or you would just hoard it. The final boss was pretty much a joke provided you had enough grass. Hopefully, these drop stones are much more rare.

Overall, I really just want to see more.

I don't really see anything wrong with it. Looks the same as always to me. Of course they have the demo character beefed up a bit.

Dual wielding swords looks sexy as hell.
And is it me, or did they black out what was the humanity counter? In the previous video from april there was some moon or whatever.in that spot.

The character ice skates a little while side stepping/strafing. Looks bad. Other than that, I dig it.

edit: Sigh...damn, I really dont like the movement. Walkingrunning specifically. The animation is fine, but the way they pace it is just off. As I said, ice skating.

We still got some time til it comes out. That said, it's looking really good. Seems like we're getting even more variety of weapons and styles. Oh and lets not forget about the clothes physics.

The new armor looks incredible, I can't wait. I've heard plenty of people have been dying playing the demo on the showroom floor, so that's some good news.

Hype level max.

The art is VERY different, everything looks less threatening. It's a fine line but I feel like the enemies look "cool" now instead of menacing.

I'm not seeing anything offensive or bad and I certainly want to play it but it doesn't have the same vibe as Dark Souls.

Favourite part was them saying they're not intending to make the game easier.

When I heard marketing was going after the Skyrim audience, I feared the worst. Now, not so much.

Not digging how the movement/rolling lacks the speed of DeSouls or the weight of Dark. Animations look weirdly muffled and restrained, especially when the weapons are being swung. Hope they work this out in the months to come.

I really don't see what's wrong with the animations to be honest. And I've played Dark Souls for the last time really recently. Also, I don't get how people can comment on the graphics when the video is only available in such a terrible quality.

I'm really not looking too deeply into all the animations or combat, I'm just excited to have more Souls to play. Just finished Prepare to Die's new content and it was good but as always, TOO SHORT!

I played it just yesterday, and I'm not really seeing it either. If anything, it looks less janky and there's better flow between frames.
