Dark Souls 2 E3 Gameplay Demo Footage

This still looks great... don't know what's up with the out-of-nowhere apathy in this topic. Loving the look of the animations, weapons, etc. Despite all that's been announced at E3, this is still my most anticipated game.

I love the souls games, but this isn't announced for new consoles? My PS3 already died and my 360 will be lucky to make it through the summer. Hope they decide on a ps4 port.

I kind of miss the old backstabs. But it's better to have more variation in the animations. Makes different weapon types more unique.

Nope, says right in the GT interview it's only on current gen and PC. "Currently no plans."

Actually, the fact that the new backstab animation is like it is makes me think that it might not give invulnerability frames anymore. That would be pretty cool imo. You could interrupt people backstabbing your summons/get interrupted while backstabbing people/monsters.

ya, nerfing backstabs in general would be a good thing. Also make it so that halberds no longer just punch through people like a spear.

Walk speed seems really quick, especially with all the armor the knight has on. Feels like it's missing that lumbering trod that heavy armor gives you in the first game. Plus animations in general just seem too fast. For the combat to stay centered on timing and positioning, I think they need to forget about fluidity and responsiveness, which is desirable in most games, but not really a complaint you can apply to Dark Souls.

I played it just yesterday, and I'm not really seeing it either. If anything, it looks less janky and there's better flow between frames.
The animation is fine. He just covers too much ground and it doesn't match. Like he will be stepping to the side, and he has already reached a great distance without much of a step. Sure, you CAN cover ground like that realistically, but you would take a bigger stride. His strides don't match his covered ground in my opinion.

It's not terriby bad honesly, but it's noticable if you are peeved by such things.

whoa these comments.

this game will rock and it doesn't look like it's been toned down one single bit, there are even more ways to die using the environment.

EDIT: on a better viewing, the animation seems very fluid, almost too fluid XD I hope it doesn't give the player too much advantage.

Guessing you've never played as/against Full Havel's with Darkwood Grain Ring?

As others have said, they've probably buffed the demo character and as a result aren't held back by an equip burden.

We can nitpick about the animations all we want, but it's still months away from release, peeps. What we need for closure is someone who played the showfloor demo of Dark Souls AND is there playing DS2 right now in order to compare how the early builds feel.

Dark Souls 2: Everything Will Be Fine.

Yeah. And you don't even need the darkwood ring (which got nerfed anyway), if your endurance is high enough you can light roll using a heavy armour. Depending on which weapons I use my current build can light roll even though I'm wearing the giant armour set.

The IGN footage and dev walkthrough that was shown several months ago convinced me that Dark Souls 2 is going to be just fine. I'm not bothered by the slightly faster combat.

I also think this E3 gameplay demo was configured so that the player is in god mode or at least WAY overpowered for the area he's in and the enemies he's fighting.

yes the character seems way too high level /decked out for the area he's in

It just seems like there's a real... straightforwardness in the way he walks?

Other than that though the weapon animations look fine.

I'm just sad that ultra greatswords don't seem to splat the enemy anymore, though that could change. Or maybe he was just using a light attack.

The character ice skates a little while side stepping/strafing. Looks bad. Other than that, I dig it.

edit: Sigh...damn, I really dont like the movement. Walkingrunning specifically. The animation is fine, but the way they pace it is just off. As I said, ice skating.

This is what I meant by off, I just couldn't put my finger on it at the time.

I'm sure they will tune it by release, it's just easy to nitpick one of my favorite game series.

It looks different but come on, janky?

They should show some gestures. I want to see "Well, what is it" in this new engine ~

As a big fan of the previous two games, this kind of looks like shit. The animations have been sped up to cartoonish levels, and the stuns have been greatly reduced. The sense of weight that was so important to the series has been gutted, leaving a feeling that you can slash away almost with no consequence.

Here's Jeff Cannnata and Danny from TRS, a big Dark Souls fan, talking about hands on time they had (Starts at 7mins):

If it counts, they describe an encounter that can be construed as a spoiler.

More importantly, the devs are strongly hinting at a next gen Demons Souls 2!!!!

Yeah, I was watching it, and they (Jeff and Dan) said that.

Looks like Dark Souls to me, so I'm not sure why everyone is worried. Some here seem so intent that the series has sold out to the casual audience that they're going to believe it regardless of how the game actually plays.

Is it just me seeing this in the movie that when there are two opponents its just one attacking? The other one follows or just take a step backwards.

Like the previous games in the series, this is meant to be played, not watched, so I'll reserve all judgement until I get my hands on it.

That being said, I thought it looked great!

I think it looks much smoother and more fluid (combat and movement wise). I think it looks great. And I'm an old-school Demon's Souls player.

Too fast, less menacing, lacks weight.

Going for mainstream Skyrim market From?

It sounds like you'd say the same about faster paced Demon's Souls footage if you saw that after seeing Dark Souls first.

Indeed. I've no problem with a bit of a pace quicken!

Nahh i do not think so.
Moves faster, rolls faster, recovers faster in my opinion.

I remember watching Demon's Souls footage and being shocked at how fast the movement of the player and enemies were. Perhaps this is a return to form?

Yeah, Darks Souls combat and speed was slower compared to Demon's Souls. Looks like they are just going back to Demon's Souls speed, which is a good thing in my opinion.
