Forza 5: Behind the scenes look (video) [Up: 1080p/60fps]

A fanboy would be someone who ignores this major setback and acts like it isn't a big deal.

The two most requested features have been left out (Despite being hinted at for this gen). I feel like I have the right to be a little bit pissed.

I don't care how the paint job looks when I press my face against it. That is what you call bad priorities.
Every Forza fan agrees and acknowledges its a disappointment.

lol at you being 'pissed'.

It's still loading information from a conventional HDD and it has significantly more information to load than last gen.

So is my 4 year old harddrive that hasn't been formatted in 3 years, if I had loading times like that in games I'd be mad. (anticipating the defenders coming up with battlefield 3 being the one pc game with shitbad loading times -which btw happens because dice and their retarded battlelog design cause your browser to kill the battlefield3 process every time you finish a map which flushes the memory, gg dice have a retard of the year award :p - , ignoring that pretty much every single other game will load in under 5-10seconds)

There will be a ton of poor load times next gen. When you've got anywhere up to 8gb of memory to fill, and the same speed hard drives as this gen you're going to be looking at a hell of a wait unless your game streams (which obviously racing games can only do in part).

Even the BR speed has only doubled vs 16x more RAM.

Forza has always had long load times, unfortunately.

where? was there some election for that?
spa and some other tracks are far more important for me! most important is an amazing physics engine. or custom mp lobbies, 60fps, liveries, mp modes, ai (!!!!)...

and at some point comes weather 'n stuff...

I just hoped there would be an end to them when both consoles have so much ram now...
That's plenty of space to keep as much data as possible cached so you don't have to flush memory all the time and fetch it from the shitty hdd again.
It's worked like that on pc for 20 years now, it should work like this on consoles too if the games are properly designed.

Just watched that Twitch video of Dan and Brian.
Man, the physics sounds like it's going to be a killer!

Is there a YouTube link? I wouldn't mind watching it again.

It was hilarious watching it live with the 'live chat' comments for discussion streaming down the right hand side. It was like this:

  • Ask about night.
  • WEATHER.
  • weather weather weather
  • night
  • Fanatec
  • weather y/n?
  • IS NIGHT IN?
  • all our questions being ignored!
  • ask him about nite and wether you dumass
  • steering weels wot about them

....twenty-five minutes later
  • JESUS ASK HIM ABOUT NIGHT AND WEATHER
  • everyone night and waether
  • wot about fanetic weelz????
  • he's ignoring us this is bullshit
  • WHY ARE U IGNORE OUR QUESTIONS?
  • no way hes talking night or weather
  • night night night

... Dan drops the weather/night bomb

  • SHIT SHIT SHIT NO NIGHT NO WEATHER
  • wot about fanatec?
  • etc etc etc.

Loading times are going to be still there. What we are done with is small segmented gameplay sections hopefully. I mean the strong open world push makes me at least think it is. Not that it matter much for a racing game for example, though.

Go look at any FM feature wishlist thread.

By far the leading requests would be Night, Weather, Spa, Bathurst, non garbage nurburging.

These should be the first things T10 adds. Not autovista for all cars which will almost certainly end in a massively cut down car list.

A bit late here, but Blim's 60 fps footage really does show the game in the best possible light. Anyone who hasn't seen it is doing themselves a disservice. If, like me, your laptop can't handle it, dump the file on a flash drive, watch that shit on your 360 and be prepared to be blown the fuck away. You and your team deserve all the praise you get, Blim.

Also, anyone else notice the tire heat/wear indicator is right next to the speedo on the HUD now? I wonder if putting it in such a prominent spot suggests tire management will be more crucial in FM5. I'm not exactly expecting flat-spotting or blowouts, but the possibility of having to look after your rubber again is still exciting.

Ok, I've just watched Blim's video for the 15th time!

Imo, the most beautiful looking racing game I've ever seen. Amazing!

I NEED some direct feed footage. I also NEED to hear the cars...

Help me, Dr.Phil!

High-resolution damage modeling shows every bump and scrape. Roads accumulate tire rubber and debris. Racing has consequences; damage can stop you in your tracks.

I'm guessing that tyre and indeed mechanical damage will be treated with a little more respect for FM5..

Holy shit it looks incredible

They captured that ALIVE feel, god damn

Sala stop talking about blims vid, ya'll driving me nuts. On my Galaxy note 2 atm lol

It really does look amazing. Rendering those draw-distances and vistas, high-poly car models, (in one of the interviews Dan confirmed menu/UI models are used in gameplay), with the play of light on the varied materials in the cockpit, all at 1080p and 60 fps makes this untouchable among the next-gen console racers we've seen thus far.

I sometimes question Turn 10's priorities regarding certain, oft-requested features, (don't we all...), but their steadfast dedication to framerate and performance, seemingly above all else, should be applauded.

I haven't watched it all yet, but I like that he slipped in that customs paints will be a part of your drivatar. Singleplayer with real world players, and their customs livs. That's some nextgen shit right there.

I've been really impressed with just about everything I've seen so far. The apparent complete rewrite of the engines is the biggest, most important feature. It's a great starting point to move forward, and eventually add stuff like weather etc. I'm fully accepting of that approach. I wanted a rewrite, I got one.

The physics, and their animations are the only sticking point for me right now. I know they aren't complete, so I'm willing to give it some time before passing any judgment. They do need to get these things moving like real cars, and not just skating around though.

The DW12 looks sick, and the Lauda\Hunt inclusion is wicked despite it being kind of cheesy that they're really only there because of the movie tie-in. Everything needs to be part of some partnership apparently.

Mascot forgot this part, 25 minutes in

I'll patch it in

Brian (who had been watching the screen with an increasingly worried face)
"ahem, ok, so let's answer some of the questions from the community...aaaandd..."

  • OMG OMG IT'S COMING, IT'S COMING
  • NIGHT WEATHER!
  • RALLY RAIN DARK HEADLIGHTS SQUIRRELS !
  • and customiz...ah, well, nevermind WEATHER WEATHER NIGHT WEATHER !
  • SNOW HURRICANES

"...so the community wants to know about the customization options !"

Community: " ... D: "

Until Brian couldn't keep ignoring the questions and reluctantly asked..

Lets see.

Racing at night or some old F1 car.

Yea, I'm sure the vast majority would prefer to have night racing.

Maybe I am in the minority, but I wasn't particularly fussed over the absence of night/weather (though the latter would be awesome indeed) - from a gameplay perspective I'm much more excited to see open wheel vehicles finally make the grade as that is something I've always wanted. I'd have been much more disappointed to see night racing in with open wheeled racers out.

It's disappointing but I certainly can't share the outrage that many are exhibiting - game still looks like it's going to be full of content.

Eurgh, the silly thing is that I doubt I'll even be playing Forza 5 now.

I was the Indy car video on GB. Does this mean Formula One style cars are in? edit: Ok, open wheel, yeah, missed that.

That white tree popping in on the left every lap was very jarring, lol. Kind of funny considering the insane detail in background on the other side of the track.

Yup, they'll have the cars from the film Rush too. :)

Nice. That's something I've wanted for a while, and I've been on an F1 2011-2012 kick lately.

Dan dodged the "what's your stance on the drm drama surrounding the xboxone ?" like a pro.

:D

What is he supposed to say ?
"yeah, well, i think the guys who give me da money have dropped the fucking ball, man" or
or
"yeah, i think it's great because i lost one million sales on used games. Now you pay my game dat full price, man ! "

Oh i remember now. One of the great news was, that they focused more on real racing tracks this time.
Thats lovely news, since most of the fantasy tracks are not my thing (except maple valley ^^)

I need to stop watching Forza 5 stuff - damn it sounds like it's going to be great.

He also said that you can apply different materials to your car now - carbon fibre or gold being two examples.

looks amazing, The most impressive stuff is the environment, now we actually have real crowds made from 3d models and the trees and foliage looks like a definite leap over the current gen

racing games will suffer a lot from diminishing returns,

When playing driveclub from the same camera view I think the graphical differences will be so small that they wont even effect the experience at all

Was anything new revealed?

Just watched it. Very good, Dan is great at these.

I remember:

No off-road racing (the rally dream is dead. GOOD).
More real-world racing circuits.
Leather cars.
Use moss as a paint.
200-300 'canon' cars mentioned as 'must-haves' in racing games, plus open wheelers (hints at roster number?)
Lots of DLC.
'Many' cars on track.

Anyone for any more?

I said this about GT5 and I'll say it about Forza 5. I'd rather 200 cars done perfectly than 1000 cars just thrown in. The premium / standard situation in GT5 was a mess.

(and that coming from someone who collected every car in GT5)

Sorry - typo. I meant "the rally dream is DEAD GOOD!"
