Super Smash Bros Wii U and 3DS: Info Collection - Dojo, Mega Man and Trailer! 2014!

Absolutely disgusting

Edit:

The fuck is up with this place?

Not wanting best king.

What are you some type of mongrel.

With your numbers, Kid Icarus deserves just as much love as Kirby, which is 3 characters.
4-5 million was a high estimate for Kid Icarus. Way too high, actually. I shouldn't have said that. I just went and actually looked at the figures, and the original game and Uprising have sold about 3 million combined. The second game probably only did a few hundred thousand, if that.

That would be if this weren't a stupid method of determining roster representation. And it is.
I can only go by what's been done in the first three games. The "big three" in terms of sales (Mario, Pokémon, and Zelda) are also the "big three" in terms of Smash representation. Do you want to make some kind of bet about Kid Icarus? I'm 100% confident there will be a maximum of two playable characters.

Someone said to take out the Ice Climbers? The characters with the single most unique gameplay hook in Smash thus far?

Tangent: This series needs more pair-up slots. Diddy + Dixie, Chrome + Lucina, Isa + Jo off the top of my head would make for fun stuff.

If King Boo makes it in I will flip a literally shit. I will reach into my toilet and grab a piece of shit and flip it.

I will hold you to this.

This thread is becoming a madhouse I say. Removing the Ice Climbers, shit being flung, King Boo being requested. I can't handle this.

Still not as crazy as Brawl's pre-hype thread. I'll never forget the posts asking for a playable Metroid (no not "Metroid", a Metroid) and the ensuing argument on why it was a viable request.

I'm sorry, I need to go clean my keyboard because the thought of getting another mario rep (and a shit one at that) instead of the iconic villain of the DK series has literally made me throw up all over my desk.

I bet you'd rather have Petey Pirahna than Ridley, too.

I'm just so happy with the three newcomers we got. Each was exciting in its own way:

- Villager: People (myself included) had ruled him out, thinking Sakurai wouldn't reconsider his previous assessment that AC characters were off-limits. But then along comes Villager! AC is a powerhouse franchise these days, and now it has a playable rep. What a clever character, too! Shoveling foes into the ground, catching them in his net, watering saplings to grow trees that he cuts down. The most brilliant move we've seen from him so far is his ability to effortlessly snatch projectiles out of the air and pocket them to "return fire" whenever he chooses. It perfectly captures the essence of what Villager does -- he collects things! -- and seeing him snatch Samus' fully-charged power shot out of the air was one of those genius Sakurai moments that makes each generation's Smash unveiling worth the wait.

- Mega Man: A perfect 3D rendition, frame for frame, of his NES incarnation. It's the third-party character everyone wanted since Snake was unveiled for Brawl and we knew third-party characters were possible. He's wholly unique, too: He shoots pew-pew-pew for his physical moves, running and gunning and gunning and jumping. But then he has nearly a dozen boss-based moves for his smash attacks, his specials, his air moves, and even incorporates Rush into his recovery jump. Amazing.

- Wii Fit Trainer: Proof that GAF has superior taste when it comes to game design choices: The character was near-universally praised here, while a glance at Smashboards earlier today showed me the rest of the Internet was quick to loathe her. How shortsighted on their part: Wii Fit Trainer is brilliant. Like Snake, she fits in precisely because she seems like she shouldn't. No one saw her coming; on paper she'd seem inconceivable. Yet not a frame of animation is wasted on her; even her idle animation perfectly captures her fitness craze. Hell, even her animation for teetering on the edge of a platform captures her fitness craze, with Wii Fit Trainer turning her precarious predicament into an opportunity to practice balancing on her toes. The way every single physical attack is a yoga pose, a stretch, a flex, a gymnastic maneuver, etc, the way she whirls into the air with multiple hula-hoops for her Up Special or spikes a volleyball for a projectile attack... It's just brilliant. And she looks great, too, her mannequin-esque appearance making her instantly iconic.

They're not the three characters I would've guessed for the reveal... Not even the three characters I would've known I wanted. But I love them. Sakurai's still got it!

Kid Icarus: Uprising was recently released and, according to Nintendo, is an evergreen title. It's hilarious that you're now arguing against your own numbers, which I used in an argument that I said was stupid in the first place.

Why would I make a bet about how many characters from a series will be in? We're not talking about what Sakurai will do at all. You really have trouble keeping track of the conversation, it seems.

I will hold you to this.

You don't think King Boo would be cool?

Chrom + Lucina: The new hotness. Duo'd up to play off of their relationship within Fire Emblem Awakening, one of the defining mechanics in the game (the double arts/offense), and to further explore the Ice Climbers "duality" concept in the roster because let's be honest, that gimmick has WAY more potential that isn't being used currently.

That... makes a lot of sense. And actually plays to the way it worked in Awakening. I feel dumb for not considering that before.

I really wish Ganondorf would get his own moveset, as I feel like he didn't change as much as he should have between Melee and Brawl. Hopefully Bower's changes herald some moveset revamps around the board.

While I'd love to see characters such as Black Shadow, Mewtwo or a Castlevania rep, I've grown to like crazier additions such as WFT and the villager. Megaman and his special ability-based moveset looks really interesting as well.

Since we're talking about clones, I guess I'd be fine with Wolf staying if they spurce up his specials a bit more, but he could be cut to make room for fresher characters, and it'd be nice if they refit Toon Link with a different moveset, whether they decide to keep the WW design or go back to older ones, or at the very least give regular Link some new abilities based on SS (skyward strikes, perhaps?).

On to the topic of final smashes, I wish they'd change some around, such as Pit's (very likely, I guess), DK's, Mario's, and possibly Link's for now. If Falco's eventually in, I'd like him to get Snake's final smash, since I think it'd be a great fit (ie: he slowly approaches the screen from the back of the level on his arwing and you can shoot lasers with A; after a while, he goes through the screen doing hitting opponents like a weaker Dragoon).

Oh, and when it comes to items, I'd really like to finally get an "explosive containers" toggle. I hated how I was forced to turn all types of containers off in Brawl since they could still randomly explode.

I would say more people and children know of DK and his crew, and don't know who the hell K rool is.

I could argue the same about king boo, however King boo is luwiggies antagonist. So luwiggi could rep his game, and have his own antagonist.

All dk needs is another kong.

Don't hate on the ghost king, He is an unobtainable goal. I cannot chop him up like the other contestants.

That would be awesome. I loved Awakening, and this would actually be such a great way to pay homage to it.

My point from the very beginning of this conversation has been that Kid Icarus does not deserve more than two characters. Nothing's changed.

I'd be ok with no Olimar. He just suck in Brawl. Or at least, remake his whole moveset, especially his specials. 2/3 of them didn't even do anything to other players, just summoning and recalling Pikmins, I mean... seriously?

I am pretty sure he is like the best non meta knight character in the game

My girlfriend would throw a fit. I'd like to be able to play with her. She would refuse because of this alone.

I guess that the whole thing abotu being able to desynch them is what could become problematic to having them work on 3DS besides the additional VRAM usage.

Now that I think about it, I guess transforming characters would be even better in the 3DS version, since reading data from the game card would be a lot faster than streaming it from the disk (*points at the uber-long transform times during Fire Emblem stage transitions in Brawl*).

Toon Ganondorf is best Ganondorf easily.

I wish you guys're right. With WWHD releasing this year, it could be a possibility...

fuck newcomers

all that was missing from brawl was mewtwo and megaman

get those two in there and I'm happy.

Exactly.

After brawl it was like who could they add besides bringing back characters they removed from Melee or a 3rd party that's like an obvious inclusion? Only one I can think of is Little Mac, everyone else is obscure to me.

The Kremlings are some of the lamest vilalins ever and Retro was right in axing them for the Donkey Kong Country revival.

I don't think the Kremlings are lame (they're actually some of my favorite villains ever), but I'm with Retro for a different reason.

You know how Bowser has become such a non-threat that he has to rely on external means like Star Rods and Galaxy Stars and Sticker Stars to be intimidating? Well K. Rool became the same way beginning with KAOS and continuing the trend with the Crystal Banana in DK: Jungle Climber. With that said, it's cooler to see new members of the rogue gallery whose reputations have yet to be beaten into the ground. The Viking dudes being shrouded in mystery means I want to know more about them and find out who's pulling the strings, a feeling that wouldn't exist with a cookie cutter Kremling plot.

If the Tikis had been in Tropical Freeze it would have been depressing - because that likely would have cemented Tikis to be the go-to Donkey Kong enemy for the remainder of time. But them passing the torch to the Vikings (who are a LOT more interesting and even parallel the Kremlings in many ways) sets the precedent of having a different enemy each game. Keeps things interesting.

(But I still hope K. Rool is the fourth playable Tropical Freeze character that was confirmed to exist. That'd be an awesome response to all the people that wanna see him again.)

Remove the Ice Climbers -_-

I'm with you, the only time I played as them in Brawl was to get trophies. They're by far the most boring characters.

No, just no. They are one of the most unique characters in the game. With the way they play, its impossible to consider them boring when they create combos of their own because of how they are. Its brings variety among the cast.

We always considered him a vacuum. :P

I like this better. Haha.

Exactly.

Outside of third parties, Captain Fucking Rainbow, Little Mac as you stated, Geno would be a megaton (unless you count him as a third party), and those would be my main choices. Anyone else can be designated into alternate costumes, which is something someone needs to ask Sakurai about straight up.

Speaking of which, have the full interviews gone up yet?

I'll accept only Female Robin from FE. Not male. He's meh. But it's not happening. :-(

Also, Yellow Devil is obviously a hint to boss battles.

Exactly.

You're pretty much alone in that view man. Half the excitement of a new Smash is the new fighters.

I play as Kirby, Jiggs, Mario, Luigi, Peach, Bowser. Brawl wasn't kind to me.

Jiggs and Samus. I feels ya :(
