You can make redmage work, just give them access to THM, ARC and CON spells, this is typically reserved to cure and rez then give them some unique stuff.

For instance, redmage could be the only other job that get's to use esuna

That isn't a really good reply to what I just wrote. In the end you'd be bending FFXIV to Red Mage (for no good reason) and not Red Mage to FFXIV (like they did with Bard).

How are the PS3 controls? From the videos I've watched of looks pretty fluid. Can anyone confirm if you use a controller on PC do you get the cross bar ui?

Yup, I use a controller (DS3) on PC and once you calibrate/set it up, the game automatically sets your UI to crossbar.

I was able to try it out over the weekend and it felt pretty good to me. I'm not a huge fan of the DS controller in general, but I felt like it worked with the game pretty well.

I should clarify that this is my first MMO and my first experience with a numbered Final Fantasy game.

I can't decide if I want to change my legacy character's race or not. I'm currently an adorable male lalafell (1.0), but I'm tempted to switch to something else entirely. I just can't decide... I really need a preview of what my character will look like in various gear.

The problem with making GLD into dark is that redmage get's screwed over into being a pure caster which is what they are not

Eh, it wouldn't have to be. Red Mage could be a secondary job for THM. It would have to lose the rapier, but it could still wield a Rod+Shield and have some of its unique Job skills encourage you to use it in melee combat.

IIRC back when the original game was released people found evidence of a fencer class through data mining. Seems like that could lead into a RDM job if they wanted to go that route.

Actually, when it comes to job speculation I wonder the most about Lancer. Aside from the ridiculous idea of Samurai or the unlikely possibility of Templar, there just doesn't seem to be many classic jobs that fit a spear.

Much like Riposte's idea of a Musketeer Red Mage (which sounds perfectly fine to me), I look forward to seeing what they will inevitably twist into fitting with Lancer.

Watch it awkwardly become dark knight :lol I mean it does a have a sword based limit break

Red Mages are still dependent THM stats and rods will never be good melee weapons. On my THM I do like 1-2 damage in melee.

EDIT: Lancer -> Dark Knight is not a bad idea. They could go extra corny and make a "Dark Dragoon" (i.e. pro-dragon) class instead lol.

I'm wondering if they've done that for the same type of reason I suspected male mithra weren't in FFXI. You don't want everyone picking a race that isn't supposed to be the most populous. I think the had the same thing in mind when they added female 'galka' and removed the tails. Although I think removing the tail did more harm than good for people wanting to play 'galka' (I liked my galka in XI, roeg looks boring in XIV), I do seem to recall them stating that it was specifically the reason why they removed them.

Basically they want them to be more cat-man than man-cat so they aren't as readily chosen.
So... I'm the only one who likes those markings? And the fact that they're there as a "defining feature"? You seem to imply they are there to at least make less people like that race, so I don't know how to feel about that, it's really so agravating for most people?

it's like people who complain that the elves necks are too long, thats one of their features.
This.

Uuuugh. One of the worst parts of waiting is that I can't listen to some of the music. I have the Ul'dah night time music stuck in my head. I want to listen to the music right about now. :c

That could be solved in a variety of ways though. For instance, one of the RDM exclusives could be an weapon skill that "imbues" the rod with some enmagic and does magical damage. Likewise, itd use the magic acc table.

"Dark Dragoon", I would love to see the AF for that class, the current DRG AF looks ridiculously evil and very DRKish to me lol

You know what would be nuts? If Samurai ended up being based off Lancer.

Either way, there needs to be a whip class, 1h axe, and a great sword class.

Scholar and Summoner seem like they both use the same "style" of weapon, so i'm sure there is room for duplicates.

Lancer is the meditate class. Samurai use polearms, both in FFXI and in reality (along with bows). Makes sense to me.

I don't think the game needs a 1-hand axe or great sword class. Whip is kind of weird, but at least don't step on any toes.

Scholar and Summoner... are jobs, not classes.

There are people that think that the dragoon armor was originally going to be DRK armor, just colored purple. It does look that way.

They can just create some kind of eastern warrior/karate discipline and branch samurai and ninja off it, instead of shoehorning them into current disciplines

come to think of it, isn't that monk?
although it's a job not discipline

This would work out for a SAM job based on the classes. I'm more curious how they would pull off DRK. Maybe a mix of MRD and THM with the mix of attack based magic and slow, but heavy melee dmg?

Oh right...right. Nevermind about that then. Whip, i had beast tamer/master in mind for the job it would branch to, 1 hand axe I guess wouldnt be necessary, but I was thinking more along the lines of some dual wielding berserker. Great sword, I just wanted to see in game for dark knight, but then again, they could use some special type of 1 hand sword and shield as well.

Thinking I might buy the PS3 version even though my PC runs this game great. My issue is that my damned 570 runs so hot and loud, and in the summer my room just cooks. I found some NDA breaking PS3 videos online and the frame rate actually looks pretty good only issue seems like the depth of field for pc/npc/foliage seems pretty bad. Wonder if they can improve it before release...

Also, when are the non-legacy servers opening up? Launch or phase 4?

Phase 4.

The new servers are already up (in beta--they've been up), what do you mean? New and legacy servers are going to be available at the same time in open beta/launch.

I don't mean to imply that they're objectively 'ugly' or anything, just that they are basically a 'NOT A HUMAN' tattoo on the face or something. The idea is that fewer people will pick characters that do not look normal. If they were simply humans with tails, you'd have about as many of them as Hyurs. With the markings, they are more distinctly not normal.

I can't find the quote but I do remember them talking about the decision to remove the "Galka's" tails. It was to get more people to play as them, because now they're more human-like in appearance. I think it's the same notion, but backwards. To clarify: I miss the tails on Galkas, so much so that I'm not playing one like I did in FFXI. So it's not objectively bad, just that the more abnormal a thing is the less popular it is expected to be.

LNC seems like the obvious choice for SAM, but at the end of the day SAM is going to have to be using great katanas. I know they used polearms, and samurais historically are as tied to the bow and arrow as anything...but SAM won't be in the game without its main weapon being great katana. That's how people know them and how they expect to play as them. I hope they find a way to connect some jobs with different weapons (like SAM and DRK) to existing classes. LNC into SAM makes total sense but they have to allow the great katana.

DRK will be interesting indeed. I'd think MRD because GLD is described as a tank from the beginning. We'll see how they handle the hybrid melee/caster thing in FFXIV. I don't think they ever got it to work right in FFXI. DRK got a few novelty spells but really it was all about the melee damage and the other stuff was second thought. I always loved the thought of the job in FFXI but it just didn't play the way you wanted it to.

Does anyone else have the issue where you will be playing and then all of a sudden your screen goes black and when it comes back the game is extremely laggy? It really only seems to happen in the gridania area for me.

It looks like Kain's armor from FF4, so... really, DRK just looks like FF4's DRG. :P

Yup.

DRG has always had that armor, at least the good ones (Kain) do.

Funny thing is Cecil's Dark Knight gear looks nothing like that.

EDIT: Oh, and SAM should be like FFT with normal katana. Don't need dai-katana.

I'd dig MRD going DRK and have a sort of executioner theme. Could go Lancer -> DRK in the same way but DRG AF does look a little to DRKy for that. And PLD and DRK coming from the same class is kinda corny otherwise it'd fit rather well.

...I wonder if I could fix that GLD -> RDM thing I made to work with ARR. It did break the system a bit.

It'd be neat if Pugilist became something like Dancer with tamborine Relic Weapons and spread Greased Lightning etc. to the party with abilities.

At first I was thinking Theif would be a class that leads to Samurai and Ninja but now I'm not sure.

What about Ninja as a new class and Samurai and Blue Mage as jobs.
BLU always had an eastern influence in FFXI and kind of has a Sabre which could be seen as katana-esque. Or maybe Dancer even.

Will ps3 version require disc in drive at all time or can I borrow/buy used disc to install client if I already have a PC account?

Hair salon, or something like that, is planned

Thanks not a big problem but my highlights turned out a little too light and redish than the brown looked in the menu.

Pugilist used to have a mug/steal skill, or at least it was listed for them on the original website.

EDIT:

Always change environments around at the creator, just to be sure.

They wouldn't call them Ninjas though since all the classes are things that haven't appeared as traditional classes in FF games while the jobs are.
