Fighting Games Weekly | June 24-30 | Twitch, pay your paaAAAaartners for god's sake!

Those numbers are pretty damn good though.

Absolutely, especially for a 12 year old game; but after the fundraiser, some expectations' got a little out of control.
What people?

...? Who was expecting a thousand?

I think some Super Smash Bros podcast that had Mr. Wizard on it after the fundraiser.
And I think some people in the thread were expecting it to rival Capcom games.

They were living in the hype, of course expectations at that hour are going to be absolutely silly. Why would you take them serious? Lol.

It's just like people who jokingly hype themselves up for any Nintendo Direct (though on a smaller scale). The expectations reeled back in way later.

Either way, the community itself is really blown away anyway.

SCV does have pretty heavy balancing issues. SG will work because the devs are interacting with the players in a way Japanese companies just don't. It's similar to the approach Sirlin took with HDR (where he invited top players over to test the builds weekly- and made some changes based on that, he mentioned that in his balance articles)
SCV didn't feel as bad as Vanilla Mahvel or SFxT to me.
What people?
There was some dude who said between 400 and 900 people during the breast cancer research drive.
God, why is Hokuto no Ken such a good game.
You know what? This game actually looks cool, but I can't find it anywhere.

According to WikiPedia, it has a PC version, do you know if it's the same version as the arcade one or completely different?
Raoh and Mitsuru are the two best characters ASW's ever made.
Speaking of Raoh, I really wish the HnK port for PS2 came out in the states. If the PS2 wasn't locked I'd import it. Yeah I know you can get ways around that but I'm too lazy.

That's a very low bar, especially since VF and Tekken do a better job at balancing -I use the worst char in VF, and I feel like I can win with him against anyone.

SC trying to play someone like Viola/A-Pat/Algol with a non-top tier feels suicidal.

Local game shop/arcade has the game, it's a 2nd-rate Arc fighter that isn't all that special unless you're a fan of Hokuto.

Game must have changed for the worst through the patching process.

It's one of the hypest and manliest games on the planet.

And it also makes Marvel 3 look fair and balanced in comparison.

Yeah, I believe capcom had stated that at one point.

Don't misunderstand me, I'm glad it was a disc release. In fact I greatly prefer that to gradual DLC, as the disc release was cheaper than the DLC would have been.

I just think they really shouldnt have announced UMVC3 so soon after the vanilla release. It really left a bad impression for most people. (IE: The idea that capcom was milking it as hard as possible, with no consideration for their customers)

I agree with you, an August 2012 release date for UMVC3 would've been much better.
I spent $60 on a beta version of MVC3

yeah, agreed on all that. and yeah, we all got beta'd :(

August 2012 would be good because they could spend the time fixing fundamental issues on the main version and nerfing Vergil while balancing the DLC chars before release.

This is the wiki for the Arc System Works version:

There seems to be another HNK fighting game with a PC version, which looks super ghetto, you can find it on youtube. I won't post the link since it contains a download link and appears to be the only vid of the game on the site. Just search "hokuto no ken PC"

The HnK PC game might be a collection of MUGEN characters.

SCV's main issue isn't balance, it's ring outs, 50/50 throws, the meter mechanic, apocalyptically bad character designs and a somewhat poisonous community.

Although you can hardly call characters like Natsu fair and balanced.

Niitsuma explained this by saying that MvC3 actually started before SFIV, and at the time the team didn't know these would become such huge and wanted features. It's dumb that it didn't have them, but I can sympathize with that.

What was the excuse for leaving out something as simple as being able to kick people out of lobbies, then?

Honestly though, I think it's because they rushed both mvc3 releases out the door. I wish they'd spent a bit longer on them and refined some aspects of the game, its netcode, and its online features.

Whut, 50/50 throws and Rings out are like a staple of SCV. Always have been. Actually, Ring Outs feel like they don't even matter in SCV anymore, at least to me. Throw system is the same as always, it's not a 2D fighter so.

The Speed of Light™ netcode we've developed is only further enhanced with more people within your lobbies!

Meanwhile:

Sliiiightly unrelated to Smash 4 but it is Smash related. (Figure it's better to post it in hereee than the community thread)

But... anyway!

550 entrants for SSBM at EVO confirmed.

@progducto @MrBisonopolis Over 550 now.

Hypeeeeeee.

This EVO's going to be the fucking best.

A beef I have with MvC3/UMvC3 that I don't think I'll get over is defeating Galactus.

"I'll squash you like the bug that you are!"

Oh yeah? Bring it! Do something! Add another layer to the fight! Don't die, you bastard!

Galactus is certainly one of the easier bosses I've ever played in a fighting game. I don't even think I beat the final boss of MvC2, and I was rather surprised I didn't destroy my XBox after finishing Dead or Alive 3...

HnK is like a 1v1 Marvel 3 if everyone had multiple x-factor cancels, there was no hitstun decay and you could parry attacks.

Pretty much every game is just lightning fast box dashes and tick throws into infinite combos that involve stabbing your feet and punching you in the dick. It's the original Dive Kick.

I don't even think I beat the final boss of MvC2

Pick Cable and press FP a bunch of times.

speaking of bosses... God I hate SNK bosses. KOF98 Rugal and I forgot which year but the boss with the feather coat thing. Shit was infuriating as fuck.

All the vs series boss were pretty easy. Hardest had to be cyber akuma.

S-Kill said that it was discussed internally, and they decided not to include the feature because are worried about abuse (kicking people out who beat you, etc.). Obviously, that's the wrong way to think about it, but they did think about it.

. Not sure how large the japanese audience for this game is on console though when the arcades have an enhanced version of the game (Full Boost) which isn't on PS3

There's still an active Japanese player base for the game with ranked matches and player matches. Getting a ranked game can be sometimes a hit or miss since people don't like to play matches with red bars.

One of my favorite features of HnK is that there's a certain number of frames delay before you can switch from low to high block and vice-versa. So all the super quick mixups are even more fucked up than they look.

BAH NAH NAAAAH

Final Boss in MvC2 was hella easy.

Mash your combo until he starts charging then jump over him before does it and block is other attacks in his first form.

If you have a decent projectile, spam that against the second form and just watch the timing of his attacks and avoid super jump bubbles.

3rd form, beat him until he disappears the ground, block the ground attack, beat him up, he'll retreat or do his splash attack, block that and then beat him up. If you're feeling feisty, beat up the orb when the goop monster is away. Or if you're cable AHVB, lol.

Yeah my friends and I were laughing at that. We were all "try squashing up why don't y- oh wait you can't, because you're dead"

And yeah Galactus was easy as hell. Now Onslaught on the other hand... That guy's an asshole.

I'll keep that in mind and try getting in some random matches, and hopefully some people won't quit because of ping
After seeing it at SGC for the Iron Man finals (specifically Chad vs Filthie Rich before they got the final 4 underway, that game ending combo was hype) I'd like to see more of the game.

yeah, that line from him after you win is a little weird. he's dead already, it's time to #packitup

I should play H+H mode more. Rainbow Mode UMVC3 should be fun, too bad there's no local multiplay. Could've been sweet for side-tournies. Random card select tournies. Thanks, capcom.
