Let's not pretend that GM actually can do anything here.

What's the relevancy here?
Shoot first ask questions later, too many things that can go wrong with that attitude unfortunately.
Out of curiosity, is that the board of directors? If so then the "new blood" can't come sooner. ><;
I'm pretty sure he's being facetious.
I do think the age here has a play in how things turn out but these are not common old geezers. These guys are incredibly smart people, probably geniuses even, so how they could be so close minded for some things is beyond me.I expect Sod's Law to happen to Nintendo soon enough. They'll end up finally fixing a lot of their medieval ways only for people to just hand wave it away and completely dismiss their achievement.
For me, personally, this is the deep rooted problem...

Is Nintendo really to blame for your decision? Your decision was based off EVO's schedule. If anything you should be talking to the organisers. You don't think it's totally fair to have clarification from the TO's on this? It's shitty from Nintendo either way, but this is something that could have potentially happened months ago, not 3 days beforehand. It's also entirely possible that they did get the okay, then that changed, we have no idea which is my point. But if I had hundreds of dollars spent and time off work booked to fly out to play this I'd want an answer to that, I think that's beyond fair expectations.
What a smart company would do:
1) Pay for a dedicated stream of the game.
2) Have intermittent commercials for the new Smash Bros.
3) Have two character reveals during Evo weekend (Saturday and Sunday).
4) Fly Sakurai out for a panel to discuss the future of the game with fans (let him see how much fun people have playing competitively).
5) Use the opportunity to talk about what great people Nintendo fans are for helping breast cancer research funding.
What Nintendo did:
"No."
In the end, things like this almost always seems to be the fault of the corporate headquarter in Japan for many of the big multi-national game companies.
I will now pretend this was actually an order sent down by Sakurai himself so I can imagine him twirling a fake mustache evilly.
Let's not pretend that GM actually can do anything here.

This is a dick move by Nintendo, but the organisers at EVO should've cleared this shit before they did the charity drive.
Yep. Miyamoto should be moved to some sort of Overseer role by now. The rest should be on their pensions.
Ah, so we can blame the lawyers? I love blaming lawyers!
Anyone got any good lawyer jokes?

He sould be restricted to only directing his own projects. He should not be involved in anything business related or games he has no relation too (paper mario$

I don't know, ask Starmen.net.How many lawyers does it take to screw a fanbase?

Fair enoughI think it's more comparable than you think considering how much negative press it took for Microsoft to start implementing changes. However, overall I do agree with you in that Nintendo is far more stubborn on changing up the status quo.

Thanks for trying, Ravi. I hope people get this through this thick skulls already.Unbelievably short-sighted and stupid, even by Nintendo standards.
I actually tried to make some calls to Nintendo today to see if I could convince anyone to change their stance on this, but the one guy I was able to get ahold of basically said "I get what you're saying, but this is legal's call."
Don't blame Reggie or anyone, blame Nintendo of Japan. I think the entirety of NoA understand how bad this is, but until they can convince NoJ nothing will change.

Archaic policy. Needs to be updated to reflect modern times.Reading some Confidential LICENSE AGREEMENT it seems the problem lies with the stricts guidelines about use of copyright material, they can be only used in America by NoA, or NoA sponsored events.

Sounds about right. Nintendo needs fresh management blood. People that aren't stuck in the 90's.
Thank you Nintendo for giving KoF another chance to shine.
Last year's finals were way too good.
Eh, what? How can they even DO that?
Eh, what? How can they even DO that?
You're being generous.
Thank you based Nintendo from saving me 2-3 hours of boredom. Now I only have to find something else to do when Buttjustice is on.

Well this happens when you put Iwata in charge of an office of a country he's not even living in. Those gaijins are doing something with our franchise? BAN it. But support when Japanese doing the exact same thing.
You're too Japanese, Nintendo.
What more can happen? lolFighting is Magic no longer existing in its original form...☑
Melee not getting DAT STREAM TIME because Ninty said HELL NAW...☑
Skuillgirls continuing to get screwed hardcore...☑
EVO 2013 is 3 up right now. This can get so much more interesting before Friday.
My bad SailorDaravon!Uh, that's exactly what I'm saying?

I remember having somebody come to our college gaming club years ago during the XBOX/PS2/GCN era explaining the rules/regulations for running a tournament that involved cash. He warned us that a tournament for Smash is ill-advised because Nintendo had some form you had to fill out to use their games at public events like conventions, tournaments, or fund raisers. It had to be approved by Nintendo and then you were okay, but you had to disclose all the information about the event. We were told a big red flag was if prize money was involved. He said companies like Capcom (fighters), Microsoft (Halo), and most everyone else didn't care or had easy means to securing permission to use their games. Of course, this was like, 10 years ago. So who knows.
yknow how games go on sale on steam before the sequels come out? that's because the old drums up hype for the new. nintendo is actually losing money by doing this.
Then be smart about it and demo exclusive debut of SSB4 footage or announce a character at the venue. EVO, Smash commmunity and Nintendo all win. But no. Nintendo just doesn' t have a full grasp of how to use and mobilize the communities for their own software.
What more can happen? lol
