Hell is a swear word?
Depends on the context.
Hell is a swear word?
Smash has been at Evo twice already without any problems, and is streamed at APEX every year also. This seems to be a new turn of events.
Last I remember, Disaster had a couple of "fuck". Oh right, the game never came out in the US :lolUnfortunately for Smash fans, Nintendo won't even put up with ANY cursing.... You ever hear any cursing in a Nintendo game?

I think it's more comparable than you think considering how much negative press it took for Microsoft to start implementing changes. However, overall I do agree with you in that Nintendo is far more stubborn on changing up the status quo.Microsoft has done a 180 on many things and demonstrated an ability to listen to fans and feedback... even if only for the short term. Not comparable to Nintendo.
This may mean streaming/broadcasting any past or future Smash titles is prohibited
You're doing great work Ambassador.
Holy shit lol
hahaha
like I said...
Or it could go with the "nintendo is out of touch" claim and they never knew smash was at evo until now.Smash has been at Evo twice already without any problems, and is streamed at APEX every year also. This seems to be a new turn of events.
As I continue to consider why this bothers me so much (it shouldn't, I don't even care about Smash Brothers), I think I've reached a way to articulate my frustration.
Nintendo's problems with online go much deeper than simply still using friend codes. That is just a symptom; the disease is that Nintendo has, for a long time, either not taken networking seriously or has viewed networking as something which is actively hostile to their business interests.
That is the real core problem. Getting rid of friend codes entirely and finally creating a standard account system does not fix this problem, unless its accompanied by a genuine attitude change. It won't fix the problem because what constitutes "good" networking is a rapidly and constantly moving target -- just 7 years ago iOS didn't exist, Android didn't exist, Facebook didn't exist. Youtube had just been created. Online communities and general networking are advancing extremely rapidly, and so when Nintendo finally and reluctantly accepts a standard account system, they will already be even farther behind because the competition is smart and dedicated to the internet as a social tool. They are constantly moving forward.
The solution, then, is not any individual step or fix, but a totally new perspective; Nintendo has to embrace networking, and not just view it as a check box that needs to be ticked. It has to view the internet -- with all its Zelda porn and illegal streams and 8 bit emulators -- as a friend and ally. Every time they do something like block Smash Brothers streams, it suggests they still intrinsically feel that the internet is their enemy to be beaten down, and that is the core problem which needs to be fixed.
Because if they don't, they will keep falling further and further behind those who do.
Yeah, I think that's a fair statement.Fun fact: This was actually because DK64 was developed by Rare, a UK-based company, and in the UK "hell" isn't considered cursing. At least that's what I read somewhere.
Did APEX get their permission or something? I really don't see why EVO wouldn't be allowed to stream it.
What I take away from this is that Nintendo's network related struggles go much deeper than simply having friend codes.
It's this sort of thing which is, to me, more telling -- it suggests they do not understand networking more broadly. This is a social event. It is a way for a community of people who ostensibly enjoy their game to come together. They seem to view the development of communal, online gaming as some sort of alien force to be exterminated, and I think this serves them a profound disservice.
It's being replaced on the stream schedule by Persona 4 and King of Fighters 13.
I expect Sod's Law to happen to Nintendo soon enough. They'll end up finally fixing a lot of their medieval ways only for people to just hand wave it away and completely dismiss their achievement.
For me, personally, this is the deep rooted problem...

Unbelievably short-sighted and stupid, even by Nintendo standards.
I actually tried to make some calls to Nintendo today to see if I could convince anyone to change their stance on this, but the one guy I was able to get ahold of basically said "I get what you're saying, but this is legal's call."
Don't blame Reggie or anyone, blame Nintendo of Japan. I think the entirety of NoA understand how bad this is, but until they can convince NoJ nothing will change.

What a smart company would do:
1) Pay for a dedicated stream of the game.
2) Have intermittent commercials for the new Smash Bros.
3) Have two character reveals during Evo weekend (Saturday and Sunday).
4) Fly Sakurai out for a panel to discuss the future of the game with fans (let him see how much fun people have playing competitively).
5) Use the opportunity to talk about what great people Nintendo fans are for helping breast cancer research funding.
What Nintendo did:
"No."
That is exactly what you're doing. You're shifting the blame pretty hard.I agree, BUT like bon said above I think at the very least the people directly affected by this (registered players and people who donated) deserve clarification from the Evo staff on whether or not they cleared this back in January or February, which they absolutely should have. This whole situation reeks to me of Nintendo legal finding out last minute this was happening (which is already hilariously stupid, but I put nothing past them at this point) in the last few days. Not defending Nintendo here, but I think for the world's largest tournament the organizers should have been responsible enough to check on this immediately to make sure it was okay, especially with Nintendo pulling Smash from MLG, the whole Let's Play video issues, etc.
You got me intereted here, what argumentt was that? XDThey just ahead settled that decades-old argument for us.

In the end, things like this almost always seems to be the fault of the corporate headquarter in Japan for many of the big multi-national game companies.Unbelievably short-sighted and stupid, even by Nintendo standards.

Ok that's some good news right there. Have hope guys. They're looking into the matter from all angles. I can't say anymore than that.
Shoot first ask questions later, too many things that can go wrong with that attitude unfortunately.
Miiverse is a bit toxic at the moment. There are lots of people criticizing, but there are alsoa fairan alarming number of people going to ridiculous lengths to defend the decision.

Why are people up in arms here?, remember you can stream videos through Miiverse.
