Didn't know of this thread's existance. Now I do, so...

WataMote: 01

Oh goodness, I knew what I was getting into... but still. Best OP. Best ED. Favorite of the season through one episode. Although it might be hitting a little close to home for me....

Same here. Dig through that layer of humor and many of the situations depicted in the manga can easily be compared to my social anxieties.

But I'll stomach saying hi to some acquaintances rather than going to the toilet for an impromptu extreme makeover.

Episode 2 was awesome too (two).

Since the back massage game turned out to be real, are those kind of boy talk albums real too?

I read the manga but the anime is cool too. VA choices were different to what I expected but is still good. She sounds a lot more girlier than I expected.

...Why am I so in tune with this girl? Its like she's speaking my language, saying the things I want to!

Seriously though, I love this show already. Sure, maybe I have more similarities with Tomoko than I even think, but... I enjoy this show.

Haha this show is not bad, its pretty funny.

Second episode even had a major nod to Whisper of the Heart by Studio Ghibli!

Gonna watch ep. 2 soon but ep. 1 was great, loved the main character and I like that she's trying to be social.
Her brother needs to be less of a dick though lol.

That 'DS' game she was playing was hilarious.

Good OP and ED, a good story...Fuckin awesome anime!!

im laughing with the Duck Face.

And the story with her friend...so fuckin good!!

Ep. 2 was terrific, poor Tomoko, if she only knew, hope
she's still gonna be friends with Yuu though.

I love how self-aware this is. Might be the first new anime I attempt to check out since K-ON (just didn't grip me).

Tomoko trying to get sick was so good. Reminds me of myself when I was younger. The allure of time off school is just too strong.

This show is so excellent.

That exchange between Mako and the 2 boys at the bench was incredible.

OK maybe my approach to the characters is different from msot of you who are more familiar with the moeshit anime genre, but Tomoko was FUCKING CRAZY this episode.

Look just...don't be mean to people, damnit.
Also Stealth Moko!

Otherwise I enjoyed the ep. but could someone post what anime, manga, etc. were parodied or mentioned in this ep.? Like who was the sniper based on and what are the games she gave her brother.

Play Motion Network lol.

I think her fantasy was a parody of ghost in the shell.

I'm just going to leave this here:

Tomoko is a bitch. She treats everyone like shit, assumes the worst about every single human being, even as they are being kind to her, and has no reason for it. She put herself in the situation she's in. She's not socially anxious naturally, she put herself there by continuously judging others as being horrible without any basis for so long that it became a part of her.

If you pay attention she's never once treated in any bad way at all, and she's never bullied or anything either. Actually, everyone is really pretty kind to her like they would be to anyone else. It's right in the title that (sadly) was always mistranslated by fan scanlators.

All her life she's deflected responsibility of ANYTHING BAD onto others, and thus she started hating everyone - not because of anything they did, but because of things she did. Hell, this is shown even within the manga itself directly - with things like her eating her goddamn panties "because they made her" when nobody even knew a thing about what was going on, and the whole time she's talking about how shitty everyone is for forcing this on her. This is why the title is it's YOUR guys fault, not "it's not my fault". She's not just saying it's not her responsibility - she's putting the blame directly onto those around her.

She deflects every situation she puts herself in that she doesn't like, every shitty decision she regrets making, and anything else onto other people. She's socially anxious as a consequence of being a shitty person on the inside, and until she changes how she thinks of those around her she won't get any better.

These people exist, yeah, but they don't deserve any pity.

In conclusion, Tomoko is a horrible human being and if you find yourself relating to her in any way, you are a terrible person as well :3

Not really. She's shown that she knows all this but occasionally acts like she's in denial, especially in one of the recent chapters. It's just tough to get out of the mindset that the world and way people act isn't tailored to her expectations. There are plenty of people like that that shift the blame to other people in their minds despite knowing full-well they didn't do anything wrong.

Besides, there are some pretty standard socially awkward penguin moments coming from the girl that are easy to relate to.

Episode 3 was nuts.

Not sure if her brother is awesome or a total jerk.

He's a jerk to Tomoko for no reason in Ep. 1, but I think if Tomoko was less of a bitch towards him...I'd be more sympathetic towards her.
...but then again that's part of her character.

way to miss the point entirely

I think it's all right, but that doesn't mean she's a conceited bitch or whatever. It's not like she's a sociopath or anything. She's just stuck in this victimhood mindset and she never gets reinforcing behaviour that would help her out of this pit she's dug for herself.
