One of the best things about the movie was the robots and the monsters actually felt like they had weight, something the Transformers' movies could have benefitted hugely from (not that there weren't other problems with them though)

Totally worth it to see it in IMAX 3D. That was so much fucking fun.

Supposed to be just with the purchase of a 3D ticket, I guess? Gonna see if I can snag a poster at Regal and watch the movie at a better theater in 2D.

They were just sitting out at a desk at my theater. The attendants didn't give two shits which ticket you bought. They weren't even paying attention as they were sitting next to pamphlets for local stuff here.

Poster tubes, as you well know, are a necessity [to keep them from being damaged]. Aside from that, it should be just like anything else to ship.
I normally wouldn't bother/pester anyone, but considering there's no Regal Theaters in Canada [and the few auctions that have sold for this poster won't ship outside of the US], I'm kind of in a desperate situation. ~_~
Thanks for even entertaining the thought of doing this! I'll check back in tomorrow.

The misuse of the Russian and Chinese crews is a mistake, I think. They're basically
. Under-developed and over-looked, funny given how the movie's fine with one-note characters so long as they're well executed (if they are). There was plenty of time to give them a quantum of personality beyond basketball and cyberpunk.

So, ok. I'm home now so I can actually type some longer form thoughts.
First, the negatives. I'll agree with some of the complaints that the acting wasn't top notch. Charlie Hunnam's performance stuck out particularly to me because it's just, I don't know, weird. I'm not sure I'd call him out on bad acting, but there was something off with his performance. He was good playing the hot shot asshole when they needed it, but he missed a lot of the emotional bits.
Rinko's performance didn't help much either. I really don't want to sound mean, but it's clear English is a second language to her. The difference between when she's performing her English and Japanese lines is vast. Her English lines come off stilted and emotionless. The minute she's speaking Japanese, though, all that stuff enters right back into her voice. I'm sure it's damn hard to perform in your non-native language, but she just doesn't quite pull it off. Her character's still able to pull off some great moments despite those issues, though, and she's still fun to watch on screen most of the time.
Then, you have the scientists. As someone who likes Charlie Day, I really thought he worked amazingly well here. He does a great job pulling off the geeky, monster obsessed nature of his character. The problems, though, come into play with Burn Gorman's character. It's not really his performance that brings it down, though. He just feels incredibly miscast. His character feels like he should be substantially older than how he appears on screen. It created a really dissent feel to him that I just didn't enjoy watching. His back and forth with Charlie should have worked well, it just didn't.
Honestly, those ideas capture the major faults I had with the film. Otherwise, I sort of loved it. The action is amazing, the robots and kaiju are well varied, and it's just so much fun to see everything played out. Very little feels forced. It tells a really simple, cool story expertly. In a lot of ways, it feels like a love letter to Kaiju flicks, Tokusatsu and 70's/80's mecha anime. All the stuff I love. It feels tailor made for me. Even if you aren't into that stuff, you'll likely find stuff to enjoy. Del Toro keeps whats great about those things, but ditches all the bagage that might make them unappealing to a larger audience. The best thing to me is that it felt complete. Even if we don't get a sequel, I don't really feel the story is lacking. So many nerdy pictures now feel the need to shoehorn in a sequel setup, perhaps at the cost of the film's narrative. I'm glad Pacific Rim didn't do that. Sure, I'd love to see another, but if we don't get one that's fine. I'm so glad we got this as it stands. As for IMAX 3D, it was good. Fight scenes looked spectacular on a screen that size and the stuff rendered in 3D was gorgeous. The stuff that was post converted is sometimes not great, but it's loads better than most post-conversions. The IMAX adds enough to make it worth while and the 3D is good enough in most cases to suffice.
If you even remotely like big action films, you should give Pacific Rim a shot. It's possible you might not like the film for one reason or another, but you should definitely be able to find aspects that you enjoy enough to make it worth your time.

This is my last post before I hop into the spoiler thread...just got back from the 10 PM showing. God damn. God dayum. Loved it. And to hell with those who say this movie did what it promised....great action. They speak falsely, as it does more! Not a ton more, but it does more.

Saw the 7 PM showing and got the Yuji Shinkawa poster (It's already hanging on my wall, so no begging). It was the most fun I've had at the movies since the Avengers! Too bad there was barely anybody there. It couldn't fill one row. Sad.

Highlights
Movie starts out strong and fast and has a good pace...for the most part.
The 3-D was SPECTACULAR and the best I've seen since Avatar.
The robot vs. Kaiju fights were insane and some of the best I've ever seen and I'm a Godzilla nut.
The Kaiju looked great and had some cool differences while having a similar look at the same time.
The nerdy scientists were actually more funny than annoying which is rarely the case in a Kaiju film.
Ron Pearlman steals the fucking show. He really brings the awesomeness.
GlaDOS. Well, her voice anyway.
What's his name (Jax from Mortal Kombat 2) gives a great performance. Hell, this small cast of unknown actors actually does a pretty damn good job.
The story can be a bit corny and cliched at times, but there's enough heart there to really carry it and make you care for the characters.
NITPICKS
It does slow down a bit in the middle for character development. Oh well, it gave me time to go to the bathroom and I felt like I didn't miss much coming back.
I'd wish there was a little less focus on Gypsy Danger and more focus on the other robots. Just a little more. Especially Coyote Tango.

Just got back,thought it was awesome. My one complaint was the large story section in the middle that dragged on too long. Easily some of the best FX I've ever seen. Also the 2 vs 1 battle had me holding my breath the whole time(I seriously forgot to breath). Very fun movie and the 3d was fantastic. Oh and my theater had a shit ton of posters,I grabbed like 6 of them.
