In terms of a sequel, there's nothing to stop
the aliens from creating another breach and returning for revenge.

Yep, not a damn thing really to stop it. A sequel will ride more on this movie being profitable than anything :(

Just a question. Did anyone laugh at
the "does it have a pulse" bit from Raleigh? It fell so flat in our theater, only laughing coming from moment of realizing it was a joke well after the punch line. I kept thinking about how well RDJ could have delivered the same joke and wondering why the movie doesn't have anyone with 1/20th the charisma of him.

My theatre laughed.

My theater laughed at it. I was lucky to have such a great audience.

What's the consensus on this movie?

It's good if you liked the trailers. It's disappointing if you're looking for much more.

Just came back. House was only a quarter full, but I intentionally picked a 2D showing, so maybe everyone's in the 3D theaters.

It was ok. Really wish that they had been a battle in the daytime. Also a little more time spent with the other characters would have been helpful. I had no idea the Australian pilots
were actually related until that scene at the end (and even then, the Dad guy (never caught his name) looked pretty young to have a son that age)).
Also Charlie Hunnam's accent kept on popping up all the time. Was pretty amusing.

Dont blame the audiences blame the marketing and trailers or the concept. I saw trailers for this thing many times and I was always like "wth is this shit why would i even wanna see this crap".

The only thing making me watch this movie is the hype on GAF.

This.
It was one of the few times in a film I understood why characters were crying retroactively. I mean it makes sense saying best runners are brothers or related, but they never made a point to explain it clearly enough, because about 4-5 others had the same opinion I came out of the movie with.

Man I don't even know if I want a sequel.
a good game or a cartoon(that worked great for the awful Godzilla movie) would be good enough for me.

The Aussie Connection was mentioned like 4 times. When they are first introduced. In the food hall, When they are talking and the end.

Likewise gaf and a movie podcast I listen to called schmoes know were hype for it because how ambitous it was from a tech standpoint

My theatre cracked up at that. It was pretty funny.

The movie is true to the trailers so might as well save the money and don't watch it if you think it looks like crap already. This is a movie that puts giant monsters against giant mechs with amazing special effects, and everything else in between is just filler.

That's all there is to it. People "blame" the audience because there is bigger, more jarring "crap" out there with little to no redeeming qualities that pulls in hundreds of millions, while ignoring this one at the same time.

Didn't catch those lines (I knew they were Australian, but I wasn't clear on the relationship). The sound was over-amplified in my theater though, so maybe when I see the subs it'll all be clear.

My theatre laughed. They did a good setup of that by
having the thing be "not dead" earlier in the film, so you didn't want them to turn their back. The crowd laughed during the entire blasting part.

Did you guys just completely tune out the
lunch scene? They very explicitly lay out their relationship in that scene.

I really don't see how people are missing stuff that the movie blatantly tells you.

Well still probably gonna give it a chance and got $6 dollar Imax tickets so no harm :)

And there might be movies that are more garbage concepts but 200 mil budget for a movie concept that people here in NA dont really care about is just foolish. Maybe they should have started with a slightly smaller budget so the movie didn't have so much pressure to make 150 mil opening weekend. But I guess maybe then the effects would not be as good.

I think my only real problem with the movie is the similarity between Raleigh and the aussie pilot, visually. Both tall lean white guys with similar dirty-blonde haircuts. I was really confused in a few scenes. I feel like there could have been a better actor choice or wardrobe distinction there.

Just got back. Who needs 3D when you got Dolby Atmos. Sex in my ears. I really enjoyed this movie and I may go back to check out the 3D.

And fuck these 15 minutes of trailers before the movie. Just get the movie started!

They would have had to have more down time and, in theory, a better script that could sustain that.

One had a bulldog.

Not quite sure how anybody missed the
father and son relationship. The entire lunch scene revolved around that and very explicitly

Oh that makes sense. We were laughing really really hard at how much the blondes looked alike at that scene, and the intercutting. The movie lost a lot of credibility by that point for me.

I still say it will have legs based on word of mouth. How good of legs is unknown

Will have INSANE legs.

"Overseas" public and blu ray sales will make this movie sell a lot

And I just hope it helps to get In the Mountain of Madness and Justice League Dark on greenlight =x

The audience in my show loved that part, they were super enthusiastic the entire time and helped make the movie a great experience.

So I just got back from it. I liked it a lot. Went to purchase the Gipsy Danger 7 inch action figure I had on my Amazon wish list (for 20.99), and I've come to find out it is out of stock and now the cheapest price is 29.99. 5 hrs ago there was no sign of it selling out lol. Went to TRU and bought it for 14.99. I'm 33 years old...and I don't care.

At that point, the plot would likely revolve around building Jaegers with the right "barcode" to go through the rift themselves and stop production at the source.

That would be so awesome.

Just got back from watching it with my girlfriend. Loved the movie. When my son gets back from vacation with his mom, I'll go see it again.

The Kaiju masters have Jaeger parts as well, which very well means that we could see Kaiju-Jaegers vs. Jaeger-Kaiju in a potential sequel :D

Just got back from viewing two. Took the whole family, not just the son (11) this time. Wife and daughter (7) both loved it too. Since it was my second time, I watched the periphery of scenes more. Lots of really cool stuff in the background. Won't go into too much detail since it's not the spoiler thread. My daughter was awesome, cheering during the fights and clapping when G.D. would get the upper hand.

Also was able to process the fights better. They were essentially.choreographed like wrestling matches, which makes sense since GDT mentioned having some lucha libre influence for them. So good.

Erm you mean the ones destroyed by the nuclear blast?

ENDING SPOILERS
Hey, it's possible some survived! Houses in Japan in direct path of the atom bomb's blast survived with some damage, so I assume a giant robot built to take punishment would be able to keep a few of its parts in good shape!

That atomic bomb is multitudes weaker than modern day nukes, let alone the double reactor that was powering Gypsy Danger. http://www.visualnews.com/2012/04/24/visualizing-the-frightening-power-of-nuclear-bombs/

If this movie fails, I think it will be in part due to bad will from the Transformers movies. People I've talked to keep saying how they think it'll be like that, so they don't want to see it.

Okay, so you guys didn't laugh at the "check for a pulse" part, but you guys laughed "really hard" for like 5+ minutes straight during the
lunch scene when they establish the father-son character plot
thus missing important story stuff that you then complain about the film supposedly not telling you about.

You guys must be a blast to see movies with.

No no ENDING SPOILERS
Now that the kaiju are gone, nations compite with their jaegaers for sport and glory (And world government?), cue G Gundam live action.
