Yeah gimme that anger...once again that rage...that misguided angst when you true enemy is your own complacency and cowardice.

Lupe Fiasco ********@LupeFiasco 2h

Nobody knows what really happened except trayvon and Zimmerman. The justice system relies on reasonable doubt not our emotions.

Lupe Fiasco ********@LupeFiasco 2h

The case should have never been televised as the potential to antagonize US race relations was, in my dumb, opinion too risky & unnecessary

The race card? What does you posting quotes from some random rapper prove?

I notice people in California are usually the ones to riot or protest.

Things have been calm here in Chicago no signs of any unrest. Beautiful day to such a thing too nice weather.

CPD would crack skulls though so I am sure that keeps people from doing dumb stuff.

Los Angeles has a riot by a minority group roughly every fifteen years or so. LA is currently overdue for a riot of any kind sadly. I hope this case doesn't provide the spark.

"The race card" has become code word used by someone who doesn't believe racism is prevalent or has an impact on anything.

I like him more and more every day

You don't "be black." You be a human being. People shouldn't have pride because of a coincidence of birth. I don't have pride because I'm a descendant of Irish, Germans, and/or Native Americans. I don't see why this concept is so difficult for people to grasp. IMO pride in one's race is just another stupid division like traditional racism.

Racial pride is a defense mechanism against other people's racial prejudice. If you aren't bombarded every day with negative consequences of being visibly Irish/German, then maybe it's hard to empathize.

Rappers talking about this case are unanimously hiporcritical. Also watching this trial I'm sure why anybody thought anything diferent would happen, I would imagine the msm got the verdict they wanted.

Edit:
Welp that lupe quote proves me wrong lol.

Lupe has proven time and time again that he isn't the sharpest knife in the drawer and this contrarian attention grabbing stance isn't doing him any favors.

Lupe Fiasco is probably an odd Person to quote because he would never agree with that poster. If anything lupe has highlighted racial disparities commonly and often. Weird to see him being used as justification to not apply race to an issue that clearly has race pulsing though its veins.

Everyone keeps repeating the fact he was 17 as if that makes it impossible for him to pose any danger to Zimmermann (if the scuffle happens like they said it did). Wasn't Trayvon like 6'5" or something?

People repeat his age to show that he was young and had his whole life ahead of him. Whatever happened that night, Trayvon was a child and Zimmerman an adult. At nearly 30 years of age, one would hope that the adult would have the life experience and foresight not to let things get to the point where either one of them had their lives threatened, let alone ended.

"The race card" has become code word used by someone who doesn't believe racism is prevalent or has an impact on anything.

Actually The Race Card is used to push the context of race when there would be no perceived race issues otherwise. If I remember right a black senator moved from D to R not too long ago because he felt the use of race in arguments was just too overdone that it becomes a weapon in itself. Not to defend that guy's switch or anything.

Read this post.

People aren't arguing that you should be considered guilty until proven innocent in court. But in this case, there's no contention that George Zimmerman shot and killed Trayvon Martin. That's not where the hang-up is. But he's making the case that it was in self-defense, and a lot of people believe that the burden should be on him to prove self-defense, not on the state to prove that it WASN'T self-defense.

I agree with you. That's what I meant when I said the call should be to improve the law to make it more fair. There is an obvious need of testimony from Zimmerman to prove why he would ever need to defend himself.

People blaming the jury for their verdict is who I'm targetting my message at. From what I'm seeing a lot of people think they should have come with a guilty verdict, and the reasons I am seeing are mostly gut-based or emotional-based, rather than looking at the evidence that was provided to the court. People are saying that if they were part of the jury, they would have said that Zimmerman was guilty. The non-guilty verdict is not the problem here, it is the inherently unfair laws that made it such.

Well Southern pride does tend to mesh with the glorification of slavery and what not. Kind of par for the course.

The war of Northern Aggression will be paid back with the blood of Yankee dogs!

When was the last time anyone actually used the term 'the war of northern aggression' when not making a joke?

When the closing remarks of an argument are quoting the Tweets of a 9/11 truther who happens to rap, it is indeed time to call it a night.

So you believe GZ called the police and knowing they were on the way, decided to kill TM out of spite even knowing the police could show up and see the whole thing?

There is no reason in the world to believe this was anything other than self defense unless there is some evidence proving otherwise.

This is as bad as the lupe fiasco quote.

Lets find a black guy who does something I agree with and then cite his action as justification that race is over used. It's the "I have a black friend" equivalent in racial issue arguments.

The jury simply did their job, whether you agree with the ruling or not.

The most important issue here is that this is yet another example of how extraordinarily broken and inconsistent the American justice system is.

Then what is your point? I also believe that their is a deep rooted culture of institutionalized racism in the US courts that works against black people. It involves the use of poor evidence to convict people of crimes that they are probably not guilty of, and give much more harsh sentences for crimes they are guilty of. What I see happening in this thread is "eye for an eye" justice, people want to see Zimmerman prosecuted despite there being very poor evidence to suggest he was guilty. People are playing a game of guilty until proven innocent, which is an idea that works against so many black people today. Instead of perpetuating the cycle, shouldn't people be working to improve the law so that it isn't so inherently unfair against black people? It seems people want to see everyone get fucked over, as long as everyone is equally fucked over.

I didn't coopt your use of the word disgusting, that's coincidence. I use the word frequently myself.

Not having him armed is a law I can get behind. However, I don't agree with punishing people for reporting suspicious behaviour. That's counterproductive. We should be encouraging that.

There is a difference between vigilantism and reporting suspicious behavior..... on top of that this isnt even a normal vigilante case goetz in the 80's (30 years ago) got off for injuring criminals due to support for his vigilante approach. Zimmerman got off in 2013 for vigilantism against an innocent kid....

It's "I have a black friend on twitter" lol

You fucking people are totally missing my point. No one should take pride in anything that is a coincidence of their birth. You shouldn't take pride because you were born into a certain race, nationality, religion, or family. You can stand with other people of the same race, nationality, religion, family, etc. because you are oppressed and have pride in yourselves and you want to fight for your rights. My problem is that people take "insert something here" pride and substitute it for actually accomplishing something themselves and use it as a way to divide people into even more groups.

Lupe's sentiment is right that there should be more mass organizing from everyone against an entire unjust system, but berating them while they're down without any kind of compassion isn't going to motivate people. He's extremely frustrated though, I get it.

Don't know what the purpose was of quoting his tweets though. Were you trying to claim he thinks this is black people's fault or something?

edit - Nevermind, banned.

I like how the details in this case are clearly documented but people are still just posting random shit they just made up or heard somewhere.
Earlier we heard TM had a bag of weed and a slim Jim to break into cars. This thread has been everywhere. Now TM is 6 5 with a 30 foot vertical.

What the fuck are you talking about?

According to the police report (On Page 6) Martin was 6'0, 160lbs.

Get your facts straight before you try to make a point....
