even worse than no sequel is that this pretty much means other mecha stuff will not be greenlit.

i think evangelion was on WETA's backburner for years now.

Dude the live action Dragonball pretty much killed off all anime projects. I want my fucking Cowboy Bebop starring Keanu Reeves.

One thing I really wish they had done was show us more of the first Kaiju attack on san francisco. Show us how inept our standard military force was against the Kaiju, it'd help visually explain why we needed these huge robots to fight them. Other than that I really loved it. It delivered.

I have high hopes for Godzilla next year. Hopefully they're taking notes on how to do giant battles

did anybody watching it outside US get the stupid dubbed version? i mean it was so obvious they dubbed mako's conversation with raleigh when they 1st met
i only know they also dubbed what mako said to stacker after watching the comments here

i watched this in indonesia

Quite a few people mentioned seeing the dubbed version earlier in the thread (or maybe it was in the spoiler thread?). I really don't get why they made a dubbed version to start with - you'd think that people watching outside of the USA would be even more used to subs and it would actually be less of a problem?

I still have these two unclaimed avatars if anybody wants them:

I'll take Striker Eureka, thank you!

:)

Edit: and sorry to report that my theater only had about a dozen people show up for a 10PM Saturday night showing for a RPX 3D showing. I also had to pass a line for Grown Ups 2

:/

There's actually a ton of room. Del Toro in a recent interview even mentioned an interesting direction for a sequel to take, plus other Jeegers he wanted to use...

End spoilers!

He stated that now the Kaiju Masters have remnants of a Jaeger... Human tech... which means... FUCKING MECHA-KAIJU. Plus, Matador Fury must have her day.

WOW. It didn't even occur to me about mecha-kaiju's. That would be so bad-ass it should be illegal.

Oh I know all about King Gidorrah :). But those monsters look dated right now, so I can't wait to see more CG Kaijus.

BTW, what size do you guys think are lvl 1 - 5 compared to this image here:

movie_monster_size_chart_by_lord_phillock-d47yzw8.jpg

Knifehead is supposed to 315 ft tall, category 3. One of the cat 4's is over 440 ft. The cat 5 is supposed to be almost 600 ft.

Mako's Japanese must have been horrible and they didn't want anyone who could actually understand it to hear it.

At first I thought this was ridiculous, but I just checked Knifehead's size in the scene where it's fighting Gipsy Danger and it is indeed taller than Gipsy (Which is 288 feet tall).

Anyone hoping for some Kaiju on Kaiju action in the sequel (if there is one)?

It was pretty cool seeing Godzilla and Mothra fight together vs King Gidorrah and the mecha kaiju in "Godzilla Final Wars"

I think I had the biggest shit-eating grin while walking out of theater after the movie the finished. The whole movie I was smilling feeling like a little kid again. Thank you based del Toro.

edit: lol someone used the same expression to describe how awesome this was in a previous page, movie was just too good.

Seriously guys, that was amazing.

Gypsy Danger might now be my favourite robot of all time. So fucking badass... the Hong Kong fight... Christ that was fantastic. The final fight doesn't quite nail the absolute of the HK, but it is fantastic regardless... and the ending, awesome.

Really liked all the actors too, especially Ron Perlman and the scientists. Too funny. Our theater was in stitches watching those guys. In fact, everyone seemed to love the fights... when... that moment happens in the HK fight, everyone was like "FUCK YEAH!"

Went a 4:30 AVX non-3D show. Was about half full. I really hope this movie does well enough to warrant a sequel cause... I want to return to this universe.

regarding the last fight
when gypsy cut the kaiju in half, I seriously wet myself, like OMG YES!!!!!!

damn fucking double post, sorry guys I'm just on a movie high.

I have a PNG of it, actually. I used a different one on my avatar. I'll post it later.
are you talking about the girl?
I have been looking every where for one. Was going to just take one from a picture of Gypsy but there aren't any good enough.
even tried to get one off of Raleigh & Yancy's bomber jackets but it just isn't large or clear enough.

One of the aliens could become sympathetic to the humans and lend us its Kaiju pet.

Alternatively, drift tech could be used to mind control a Kaiju that was captured alive.

Saw this for a second time in IMAX tonight - the spectacle still holds. Such an immensely beautiful movie.

The movie just naturally inspires enthusiasm.

And yes, that was the best scene in the whole movie.

I saw it in IMAX 3D today and had a splitting headache for about 2 hours afterwards. The flashback sequences made me seriously motion sick, which was a first for me. Usually 3D is unobtrusive but oh man I was feeling really light headed. Also the ghosting during the non-action scenes was unbelievable. I literally felt my eyes trying to cross so the image would clear up. Man, fuck 3D. The trailers shown in front of it in 2D were so much more immersive.

Ah, sorry. Misunderstood you.

Nope, sorry.

Watching this movie made me yearn for an XCOM style game with giant robots battling kaiju. You can build a fleet of robots, recruit unique pilots, gain resources from the different nations, and fight the kaiju in large cities.

It'd be awesome.

Any sweet wallpapers anywhere for the movie? I need everything to be branded with Pacific Rim to make up for the tears of this movie not making enough money for a sequel.

One of the opening scenes where
the first kaiju fucks up the bridge
looked so fucking good in 3D. It was about as perfect an introduction to monsters could be.

Yeah, whenever CGI stuff was in 3D it was good, but the live action shit is just terrible.

Weird; I was actually quite impressed with how good a job they did with the conversion of the 2D scenes. Then again, maybe they did a better job with them for regular 3D screens versus large-format screens like IMAX? I don't know.

Just got back from seeing the movie.

The script was kinda meh, but good god was this a good fun movie. It's pretty much how I wished the Transformers movies were like in a sense.

Yeah, whenever CGI stuff was in 3D it was good, but the live action shit is just terrible.

All of the actors had the flattest lips. It was so clear that they just had a simple facial model to have them appear 3D. Not that I expect them to go and model all mouth movement. I just noticed it quite a bit.

I was really impressed with the japanese little girl's acting, she really sold her scenes.

apparently the young mako actress is also a singer in japan, and a talk show host
her name is mana ashida

oh wow she's the voice of annie in the magic tree house anime!

That would be cool as hell. God I really hope a sequel surfaces. Will go back to watch the movie a 2nd time just to support this.

she's stupid talented. the best acting from the movie came from her and Idris Elba.

WTF!? loved those books as a kid, might need to watch.

yeah there's a anime movie that came out on 2012, but i think the dvd/blu ray only came out this year
or maybe late last year couldn't remember
i don't think there's any english subbed version of the anime, at least last time i checked so i watched the raws

it's a children's anime, you don't really need any subtitles to understand them if you understand basic japanese

This is kinda off topic:

I know there are some theaters with assigned seating. I'm in Nassau County, NY. There's at least one in NJ, but I'd like to find one closer. Is there a directory of these somewhere? Thanks.

EDIT: Oh, and I'm looking to buy them online, since having to go to the theater to choose seats kind of defeats the purpose.
