sure...but that aint all of them
That depends on if a sequel ever gains traction.

Wait somebody earlier was saying that Dinosaurs were Kaiju. I thought that the Dinosaurs were killed by the Kaiju as part of some scouting wave thing.
So what was the real reason they only started sending in stronger Kaiju at the end? Was it that they couldn't send them earlier, or that they chose not to?

Knifehead looked cool as fuck. Inspiration from Guiron is so obvious too.

Showa Gamera . . . yeah lol.
This is the less stupid theory. When I saw the movie I thought they meant the dinosaurs were Kaiju, and it took me right out of the movieFor a moment.
CAT III's are when I think shit got real. Knifehead seemed to be a big fucking deal at the time, it cut through Gypsy Danger like butter.
The way I interpreted it, they attempted an incursion during pre-history and were unable to establish a foothold because the climate was incompatible with their physiology. They weren't the dinosaurs and they didn't kill the dinosaurs. They just poked their heads in briefly and left.
How come gypsy, which got taken down by a cat 3, can pretty easily dispatch cat 4s after it got revived and go head to head with a cat 5? Does that mean the dead brother isn't a very good pilot?

^^ Otachi and Leatherback were not just remarkably vicious, but they were clearly specialized to take down the remaining Jaegers. I would even say that if the alien were receiving information from each battle, then the two were designed to stomp Striker Eureka.

This is a very good point. Gipsy curbstomped so many Kaiju because he was the wildcard, the one Jaeger they weren't prepared to face.

This video clip illustrates perfectly why I wasn't super impressed with the fight scenes in this movie. In that Big O clip you have both Megadeuses using all of their tools in creative ways and pulling off crazy maneuvers in addition to just fist fighting. In Pacific Rim, despite the Jaegers having some cool weaponry, the fights mostly devolve into relatively uninteresting fist fighting. Gypsy Danger had that sweet ass sword it used for all of 3 seconds, Striker Eureka had that sweet missile pod it used once in a damn flashback, and we don't know what Cherno Alpha and Crimson Typhoon could do because they go down like bitches. To be fair, the Kaiju are more or less mindless beasts so they would fight like it but a little more creativity in the fights themselves would of gone a long way for me.Big O vs. Big Duo

*The Bigs fight a lot like Jaegers, with the same weight and heft in attacks.
my theory was that when newt drifted, the hive mind learned some of human's technology, and they made leatherback with emp capabilities because they know most things in our world are using electricity
Gipsy Danger is so shiny. I'm Liking GD more and more. If I was a kid I woukd.get that 18 inch GD Neck figure
Biolante is the best.Otachi, fucking beast. Acid was Super Effective!

We don't get an explanation, but basic logic dictates that they couldn't, not that they chose not to.So what was the real reason they only started sending in stronger Kaiju at the end? Was it that they couldn't send them earlier, or that they chose not to?
The Guiron resemblance is obvious, but I like to think they also got some inspiration from the goblin shark.Knifehead looked cool as fuck. Inspiration from Guiron is so obvious too.

I got the whole other aliens thing in the first drift sequence but how did they figure out the barrier blocks non kaiju in the second sequence?

Biolante is the best.
It's my favorite Godzilla flick too... Which doesn't mean much when I've only seen Godzilla vs Biollante and Godzilla vs Space Godzilla (LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL).

the way i see it when i watch the movie was that the kaiju was what took out the dinosaurs too

Godzilla vs Biollante, one of my favorite G flicks period. Hell probably is my favorite now that I think about it. So happy they released it on Blu-ray. Also, I can see that goblin shark in there too, nice catch.
What's stopping you?
But yeah, when I first saw images of GD I thought "Here comes the generic lead mech - can't be too cool or it'll scare people off". Then it starts wielding ship-swords, chopping up Kaiju in the stratosphere, and flinging itself. You really have to see it in motion to get the appeal.
That's what I thought too, but people here seem to disagree.
Another thing I just thought about is that maybe the portal got stronger as time passed. This could explain them able to send more kaijus in shorter time frames and also more kaijus with each wave.
This could also mean that the portal was unable to cope with the size of larger kaijus in the beginning.

People posted earlier about the old versions of the script stating that the portal has to stabilize over time, which allows them to send Kaiju through with increasing frequency. Even though it's not in the script anymore, it still seems like the rest of the story is built around that.
In speculation land, you could say that the portal was opened, the dinosaurs were killed, and then closed again. They periodically reopen it to have a look around and see if the climate is right. Each time they reopen it it has to re-stabilize.
The problem with the dinosaur thing is that it doesn't make much sense to wait so long and just hope that the climate would eventually favor their colonization. They could have sent through lifeforms to terraform the planet much faster. People also say "oh you know, maybe time goes way faster for them", but if that was true there's no way they could possibly pump out Kaiju fast enough to do anything. If a month for them is ten million years for us we should have an unbeatable industrial advantage, there's fucking no way they could compete because everything would happen in slomo.
When Australian Daddy hurt his arm, why not have father and son just switch sides?
Why make Idris Elba pilot if he already had a long list of candidates prepared to be Main Guy's partner?
They get jostled quite a bit in the jaeger; the Aussie dad would have needed some serious painkillers that might have impaired his combat ability. They might have also preferred to keep each pilot on the hand they're used to; it can be very disconcerting to have everything reversed so soon after a battle. When Australian Daddy hurt his arm, why not have father and son just switch sides?

Another posibility is that they had an array of worlds they could have colonized, and Earth got pushed all the way back because it was not ready. So when it was Earth's turn again they poked their heads back in here again to check and found Earth to finally be colonizable.
This idea pretty much sits most comfortable with me. The Aliens (Precursors) didnt just sit by for 65 million years twiddling their thumbs wondering, "You think Earth is ready yet?" They were busy scouting/colonizing other worlds/dimensions while working on their cloning and dimensional travel technology.
In the original script during the Kaiju drift, the scientist actually see a glimpse of an unlimited amount Kaiju being grown in a watery world. So the Precursors pretty much had an army of Kaiju on their side of the Breach, just waiting for the portal to stabilize to a big enough size to send platoons of Kaiju at once.
In the original script they actually did send a swarm through in the last battle, where Eureka Striker was fighting all of them at once while Gipsy Danger runs for the portal to detonate and close it.
WOW. The bolded sounds so over the top and non-believable for Eureka Striker to take on so many that I love it.
why didn't stacker just solo striker since he randomly brings up that he and gipsy pilot are the only two pilots who have solo'd jaegers before
just seemed written to get people to like the aus pilot
I don't get the part where the kaiju was going for Charlie Day. How did it know he was there?
The sword reminded me of Ivy's Whip Sword from Soul Calibur. It would've been fucking sick to see them utilize it that way.
Anyway, I enjoyed the movie, perfect summer popcorn flick. Idris Elba is a badass, the movie was really fun, and the over the top scientist and command deck was as over the top as the movie itself. It all fit together in this anime-ish kinda way, loved it. Definitely Bluraying this flick.
My gripes were that the other Jaegers definitely died waaaaayy too early. It really sucked. I wanted to see more of them. I understand that Elba's character was disappointed with Becket and Mako, but he literally watched two crews die before he sent them. Like, lol come on. It was annoying, cause after that happens Danger appears there without any hassles. It was super generic from a plot standpoint, but it didn't need anything deep to begin with. Plus I think the world is pretty fleshed out, and ripe with backstory- so I can overlook the generic plot points.
I hope we get some sequel. I REALLY love the world they created in this film.
