have not decided yet.

Gonna rock Crimson Typhoon, thanks.

What is up with so many professional reviewers mispronouncing "Jaeger". Nearly all of the televised reviews I've seen pronounce it as "Jay-ger". How would they come up with that? It's spoken more than it's spelled in the movie, and they say it so many times I don't know how you'd miss it.

Yeah. It's pronounced like the shots. Jaeger-bombs. Yay-ger.

I hope they make another one. The potential for prequels is enormous, so much backstory that was discussed in the beginning that I want explored.

The problem with doing prequels is that there's not as much dramatic tension because you already know the outcome. Unless they take a tragedy angle.

How about a DVD of animated prequel shorts, 'ala The Animatrix?

If Pacific Rim doesn't make enough $ to justify a sequel (I hope it does), it probably has enough of a cult fanbase to justify a series of animated movies that deepen the lore!

The best thing about P.Rim is that it skipped all that boring predictable origin crap. Prequels is exactly what this movie doesn't need.

Got the art book today - very cool, well worth it if you enjoyed the movie.

Looking at the various mech designs in it made me realize how awesome a computer game would be if they got those chaps who did Chrome Hounds to make it.

For the same reason people say Jo-zay, I guess.
I hate when people do that. :(

Thank you.

I want to see a sequel. Give me Godzilla vs. Gipsey Danger (if that ever happens).
Even though Godzilla has a distinct advantage, I'd still love to see that fight with Gipsy as the underdog. Eventually, Godzilla would disable it, but the pilot team would have earned the monster's respect and it will just leave them stranded there.

Yeah, imagine if we got From Software to make a tie-in game instead of Yukes.

Actually, imagine if we got anyone to make a tie-in game instead of Yukes.

Honestly, I just really want to see Cherno and Crimson Typhoon in their prime kicking ass, lol. They didn't have as much as screen time as I wanted in the movie.

Don't get me wrong I would prefer to see more kickass Mark V types in sequels, if they can figure out a good story to make it happen.

IIIRC, del Toro said he would personally oversee a tie-in game on next-gen hardware if the movie does well. Just another reason to spread the word and pray for success, I suppose!

This was an amazing romp and I loved it. I was a bit surprised del Toro didn't use a wider aspect ratio for the film though, just struck me as odd, though perhaps he wanted more verticality in the frame relative to its width.

Let's not pretend to live in a dream world where del Toro could have made a brisk three hour film that tackled the origin of the threat and contained five monster battles without feeling tired.

Or the alternative of yet another origin film...Jesus, fuck origin films.

Well, there is dialogue in the movie that
they are restoring the two Jaegers, so maybe they can get an upgrade ala Gipsy Danger to make them on par with the Mark 5s (And inevitable Mark 6s).

So Imax 3d, or regular?
I'd recommend Imax just for the sound system and larger screen. This film has good soundwork, and while it can get loud, it's not constantly loud like Man of Steel.

The 3D is decent, but I've heard the last fight scene can be a bit less clear in the 3D version.

Ya I wanted to do Imax, but dislike 3d. Guess I'll suck it up and go with it.

Interesting.
Guess I missed it, and I thought I was paying close attention. I don't think you ever see the final damage done to Cherno since it goes into the ocean, and I forget how much Typhoon was hit beyond the death of its pilots
.

Its not all that bad apparently:
"WB waged an aggressive last-minute marketing effort, and the studio's president of domestic distribution Dan Fellman says it paid off.
"Two weeks ago, we were looking at an opening of $25 million to $30 million," he said. "This result is just what we've hoped for. There's nobody that doesn't like this movie, and it's Guillermo's biggest opening to date. Now, our job is to broaden the base."
Fellman said the studio will accomplish this by airing ads that tout reviews and the audience CinemaScore.
IMAX theaters -- the favored venue for fanboys -- ponied up a robust $7.3 million in Pacific Rim ticket sales. In another sign that fanboys turned out in force, more than 50 percent of the overall gross came from 3D screens, a record for the summer.
Younger moviegoers made up the biggest percentage of the audience for Pacific Rim, with 47 percent of those buying tickets under the age of 25 and 67 percent under the age of 35.
...
So far internationally, the tentpole is outpacing a slew of films that went on to gross between $300 million and $400 million overseas, including Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Clash of the Titans and Prometheus. It's also pacing on par with World War Z, which has earned more than $200 million to date at the foreign box office.
Korea leads with $9.6 million, followed by Russia with $9.3 million. Mexico opened with $5.3 million, three times bigger than any of del Toro's previous films. On Monday, Pacific Rim is expected to surpass the lifetime gross of Pan's Labyrinth ($5.8 million).
Pacific Rim only opened in 50 percent of the foreign marketplace and still has a number of major markets in which to open, including France, Germany, China, Spain and Brazil."

I forget what interview it was, but in the discussion of a sequel Del Toro said
there will definitely be a Gipsy v2.

watching it again in IMAX 3d again this weekend with my brother, who saw it in 2d and loved it, but I convinced him that the 3d is worth it.
