Quick question guys, is it worth it to watch this in IMAX? It's not 3D right? Was it filmed in IMAX at all? And I mean a real IMAX, not lieMAX

Fake IMAX (I believe) but totally worth seeing.

I have seen it in both 3D and IMAX 3D and the IMAX version was a step up on an already great transfer.

Also, normally I hate 3D.

Also, you get an amazing close-up of Idris Elba that was worth the price of admission.

Hmmm it's like double the price.......maybe..

No native IMAX, the CG scenes are native 3D, rest of the film converted 3D but with a lot more conversion time than normally done for new releases.

3D reviews have been primarily positive on here.

3D is arguably the best ive seen

I was sitting in the perfect middle spot too. Got my tickets 2 days early.

I actually think the 1.85:1 ratio helped, altho I had no idea and was wrongly disappointed as it started

Well I have a lack of peripheral vision and can't see 3D as well as others, so that's not a big selling point for me. I mostly go to IMAX for big spectacle movies because I fucking love that giant screen. 16.50 each ticket here though....thought it was cheaper. Dilemmas..

I can not wait for the 3D bluray. My neighbors are going to hate me for awhile when it sounds like kaiju are invading our neighborhood. Workout for my Klipsch Reference speakers!

Ended up making my own.

Loosely based off of a totem pole with dark blue/red/yellow.

IMO it's well worth the extra price. Even without it being native IMAX, this definitely falls under the "big spectacle" category.

talking parts were boring. middle act just dragged so long. I also had that jeff goldblum jurassic park quote in my head while I was watching it haha.

...but when it came down to the action...this film was fun. i think del toro has made some crap films in the past decade for the most part so it surprised me how much i enjoyed this. although i think that's solely because it delivers on it's premise of giant mecha/kaiju action.

it doesn't need a sequel but if by some miraculous chance it gets one i'll be there day one.

the sheer scale of this film is massive. it will also be the last time we'll ever see an action film with piloted mechs of this size for at least 10-15 years.

edit: hong kong scene as soon as they hit the water was obviously the best in the film. but i wish at least one of these fights was in the daylight. that newscam footage of striker eureka wasting a fool in sydney looked so good.

A sequel is already confirmed and in the works I believe.

Some here have also said that the usually superior sound system in IMAX theaters is also something to consider.

Yea I absolutely love IMAX sound. Just bought my tickets. $31 total.

Lol, this reminds me of playing around with the customiser in Mechwarrior.

*ahem* The movie was good too, even if
the Russians and Chinese just seemed to be 'there' without characterisation or role (narratively or in-story) apart from the obvious
. And the protective sea walls looked to be inside the cities (CBD only) rather than around them, and then it looked like they were protecting Hong Kong from... Kowloon? But that's just nitpicking really. I enjoyed the film.

I love him on Sons of Anarchy but Charlie Hunnam was perfect for the role. His relationship with Mako helped ground the film a bit and was well done.

Just got back from my second screening. This movie is my new crack. I could watch this a hundred times over back to back.

No, sequel is planned but del toro said if this doesn't do well studios will never go through with a sequel
And del toro implies there will be mecha kaiju in the sequel

eh charlie hunnam was fine but you could literally replace him with like 50 other actors. if it was garrett hedlund for instance it would be no different lol.

I like Charlie, but yeah. And honestly I can say the same thing about the girl

its good that Charlie Day and Burn Gorman were there.

The German start is tmw! And I'm totally gonna watch it with two buddies of mine. I hope the store inside the cinema sells some posters.

Just saw it. amazing action scenes. Cant even remember the names of any characters, the acting is bad in some areas, but I dont give a fuck. Fuck trying to pick this film apart, its a loud, dumb film, we know it, its creators know it, so sit back, stfu and watch this giant robot punch a monster in the head. Im down with that.

This movie just blew me away. I never felt so tense watching fight scenes. The movie just nailed everything. Story, casting, pacing, action, soundtrack (good god), everything just felt tied together. Rarely do movies manage to come together so beautifully.

The Kaiju were legitimately scary and the Jaegers were just badass!

Watching it was like a childhood dream come true. Imagining giant robots fighting monsters. It was so good it makes me depressed it isn't doing better at the box office. I would kiss del toro's ass for a sequel and for him to continue making movies. I watched it in IMAX and only in the credits did my friend mention it was 3D converted because it looked damn good.

Holy fuck! I'm going again this week. Anything to support this.

i'm getting urges to see this film again, doesn't usually happen.

I'm finding the same type of reaction to the film. There are films that I enjoy watching and that I'll happily rewatch again, but pretty rare that I really itch to watch it in the theaters multiple times. The last time I actually did that was TDKR, but that was mainly because different groups of people hadn't watched it before and I came along for the ride.

I saw the non-IMAX 3D version and enjoyed it. I don't normally like 3D, but I found this version non-intrusive and easy to watch. Hopefully it picks up steam or at least has longer legs.

Northern Ireland's last two Jaegers. There is some friction between the two pilot teams, though hopefully they can realise that they are not so different and can put their differences aside for the greater good.

OOH POLITICAL COMMENTARY

I saw it in a theater with a Dolby Atmos (hundred speakers everywhere) and the jaeger fights were almost overwhelmingly loud. Id check that out if its available in your area. Same price as a regular showing.

I've seen it twice already, the last time was Sunday afternoon, and I am getting the same urges you are talking about. For the life of me I can't get the main theme out of my head, and I can't stop thinking about this movie at all. I want to see it a third time. I need to see it a third time.

I really wonder what the box office legs on this movie are going to be like. Everyone I know that has seen it loved the hell out of it, can't stop talking about it, and wants to see it again. Are there subliminal messages embedded in this flick or something LOL

The sad thing is that I have noticed the same but it's not happening at the box office. I expected Sunday to overperform because of it, nope. I expected a small drop on Monday, nope exact opposite. with 3 new movies opening this week, I think it's going to be bad.

I've bought my own 3d glasses to bring with me to IMAX...twice now.

The first set I bought, after getting them I realized that something wasn't right...and found out about the difference between 45/135 linear polarization and 0/90 linear polarization. Mine were of course the wrong kind (despite being nice quality) and thus useless to me.

Just bought a second set that should be coming in about a week.

Going to bring my own 3D glasses, because the ones you get at the theatre are often insanely smudged or scratched and are shitty.

I don't even like 3D, but if I'm going to have to see things that way to see them on IMAX, I'm doing it right.

Saw it last night in 3D Imax. Loved the movie, but I thought it started to drag heavily in the middle. I think they lumped too much exposition together, and wish they had broken it up a little more.

Second viewing report: awesome.
