Devil May Cry 4 is $4.99 on Steam today

Bought and jut downloaded the Devil May Cry 3/4 bundle.

Wow, DMC4 is awesome. I played the ever-loving hell out of the 360 version when that came out, so it's nice to return to it. My laptop runs it at max settings at 60 FPS...surprised me. Excited to play even more of it, and the new difficulty in the PC version.

DMC3...wow. I knew it was a bad port but wow, it's worse than I imagined. Doesn't even detect a 360 controller correctly...and right stick is move and left is camera? Man, stupid. Runs like crap too, which is weird considering how awesome DMC4 runs.

Oh well. $7.50 for DMC4 alone seems well worth it.

Already had all but 3, grabbed 3.

Fixing up the port so far has been kinda easy.

Assuming wired 360 pad (I'm using the rereleased one I believe black with glossy buttons, not sure if the hardware or anything is different) - Use Xpadder to map Q and E to the triggers, (q - left - e right)

replace the contents of DMC3SE.ini with

Code:
[Controller (XBOX 360 For Windows)]
START = 7
SELECT = 6
CIRCLE = 1
TRIANGLE = 3
SQUARE = 2
CROSS = 0
L1 = 4
R1 = 5
L2 = 11
R2 = 12
L3 = 8
R3 = 9
L<->R = 1

I was like, "YES I AM GONNA BUY FUCKING DMC4 TODAY."
Then I opened steam and saw that I already bought the game awhile ago.

The steam experience.
No shit.

Steam has been a bummer lately.

I see all these sales and all I can think is "I already own all of these games!".

:(

So, sure, DmC streamlined the combat more than a little, but as a whole game, it's markedly better. The way way your mobility powers interact with the evolving levels is just top notch, and the soft lock and everything that flows from that just works better with that more mobile style of gameplay.
I actually loved DmC myself but it is an extremely linear affair to the point where fights are generally book-ended by cutscenes even.

DMC4 presented a larger somewhat non-linear world that allowed the player free reign to explore and puzzle their way through environments. You were often prevented from proceeding until you completed some sort of environmental puzzle even.

This is the mold that the original game was based upon and exactly what was lost in DmC. The core combat in DmC is great and they do amazing things with the set pieces but I'm disappointed that all sense of environmental exploration was eliminated.

So DMC3SE is playable on PC?

Sorta.

General consensus seems to be that if you have a modern CPU you'd be better served just emulating the PS2 version via PCSX2. You'll get better performance (the PC port is really, really shameful), and there's probably a widescreen hack around there somewhere.

PCSX2 it is then. Thanks.

It's weird how a shitty sound engine hampers the playability of already struggling games. I have a strong suspicion that bayo on PS3 also runs better if you disable the in game music (which is automatically done when playing mp3 files from your media library). I tried it only once (had bought X360 the very next day) but it certainly felt like so.

A noob question, I have a PAL region 2 X360 and I'm accessing Xbox marketplace from Middle east region, can I buy DMC 4 (or DMC HD collection) from UK marketplace or is it not possible. I've heard Microsoft performing some ip check during the download but I'm not sure about that.

Reply would be appreciated...

A great opportunity for those who thought DmC was good to meet a real man of the action genre.

Got it during the last sale fo € 2,24

Pretty sweet deal. I like the game btw, but it kinda bummed me out that Dante's stuff is just Nero's path reversed, with the same bosses. Which is too bad, because I would have loved all new stuff with Dante's moves. Still fun.

As far as I know, XBL doesn't do an IP check during actual purchases or accessing of content. However, certain DLC is restricted to certain region 360s. This is on a DLC by DLC basis, so you'd have to find out if others had tried the same thing online. The other restriction is that your Gamertag region will limit access to certain DLC online (and deals).

Since you already have a PAL 360 and a UK Gamertag, I can't imagine it would then be an issue, but I also can't really 100% confirm it either.

Yeah about that... I foolishly set my region to US and now I have to wait 3 months, but no worries about that.

Another thing, are the XBL points region free or I have to buy import cards from UK to buy stuff off of XBL...?

I'm not entirely sure.

I believe that points are region specific, but only region specific as far as redemption of codes is concerned. The spending of points should be fine as long as you can access the content. Not 100% on that, but I think that's how it works.

I thought one of the complaints associated with DMC was the core combat.
I for the impression that there was no depth to the combat like previous games.

Is there any other problems related to the port? I might just bookmark this reply and get the Steam version.

Depending on your graphics card(?), you may need to remove certain music from the game for it to run properly. Otherwise, it will chug below 30fps, despite having a computer that can run Crysis.

Otherwise, I think that's all you need.

There is depth in the combat but it's not as much as previous DMC games. That's fine for people who only play games to completion once or have never played a DMC/top action game before.

Devil May Cry 4 was pretty disappointing to me. The combat was great, but my goodness, the blatant level backtracking stuck out like a sore thumb to me and diminished my enjoyment of the Dante segments greatly. Replaying the entire game backwards just felt more like a chore than anything else and gave me the impression that the game was rushed.

I would still say the game is worth the $5 for the combat alone though.

Just bought DMC4, I've been playing a few hours and

franco-so-good.gif

Funny fact: when I played it the game in the console release I was kind of average action game player, but since that I've been improving my skills (hundred of hours with the Soul games, Bayonetta, and the last one Metal Gear Rising) and now even if I don't remember almost nothing of the game, I'm playing it on the default difficulty (Devil Hunter I think?) and I'm destroying the game. I remember how I was unable to properly timing the EX mechanic with Nero and now I do it almost automatically with 2 hours of practice. It´s almost hilarius. I can't wait to try the Bloody Palace and the new difficulty mode exclusive to PC that spawned a lot of enemies.

PD I'm not bragging :b, there are out there players who are a lot better than me, but I find funny how I've changed in 5 years.

noob question.

can i charge the sword when i'm doing a combo? i have to waste like 5 seconds before every encounter to have the sword charged.

Revving with perfect timing is one of the greatest mechanics introduced in DMC4. Every single strike of every single move can be instant revved with proper timing. Just takes practice.

People should at least get it for Bloody Palace. This is the type of game where the combat is the key focus. I care less for the stage design.

Got the game yesterday for 7.98 used for 360; was playing it for nearly 2 hours on the second difficulty available; it's too easy, and too many s hitty cutscenes

Increase the difficulty? Press the Start button during cut scenes?

Are you not capable of coming to these conclusions on your own?

This is assuming further difficulties are unlocked from the start and cut scenes are skippable

Cutscenes are skippable but the Devil Hunter difficulty is the hardest difficulty setting available from the start (only Human and DH).

The cutscenes are skippable. I don't think any additional difficulties are unlocked above Devil Hunter at the start, though.

I agree that they made the game a bit too easy. Devil Hunter (Normal) is just above DmC's Son of Sparda (Hard) in difficulty, really. Both DMC and DMC3 were harder.

Honestly, my biggest complaint of this game is that there's so many boss repeats... but you only fight Credo Angelo once, and that's once of the best boss fights I've ever played in my life. I think there's something you can do in the PC version to fight him as Dante, though, and it works fine.

Still, though, for $5? That's worth backtracking.

$mokin' $ick $tyle.

This confirmation is actually what might tip me over into picking this up. I'm playing Bayo right now and the cutscenes (and environmental exploration) is so bad, not even enjoyable in a crappy MST3K kinda way. After a couple of hours I've just started to skip them wholesale and the game is much better for it.

It seems random but you may have issues with the music causing the game to lag,

Here is my specs
Intel Core i5-2500K - OCed to 5Ghz , Nvidia GTX 680 , 8GB Ram - Running the game from a 7200rpm drive

I wouldn't take my post as a 100% will fix every situation guide, but I mostly posted it to those who already owned it

Hardest unlocked difficulty is easy as shit. I have played till the first boss battle, and barely even noticed I have a health bar until then.

Cutscenes are tied into story, and since I have played all the other DMCs, even if the story is not good, I'd like to go through it; the problem is that they are unnecessarily long and abrupt.

who is dumb?

Also to add to my complaints, AI is dumb too.

Did you manage to get it to play in fullscreen? I can't get it out of windowed mode.

It has to be done in menus or in game play

Just tried doing it while playing the first level, after a failed attempt at the main menu. Still nothing. I'll have to fool around with it more later tonight.

Everything is great besides that, though. Thanks for the controller configuration. Works perfectly.

You've essentially played the intro. Your criticisms hold true to an extent, but I'd dig a little deeper into it before jumping to conclusions.

If he picks up the PC version he can probably unlock the other difficulties through a .ini change.

Along with the extra benefit of running at higher resolutions, framerates, control choices, backwards compatibility, cheaper, etc.

That does nothing.

Just throwing out ideas here, I don't actually own either game.

That is the typical command for switching between windowed and full.
