I don't know why but I hate the way male Miqote stand.
It's like they're standing there looking for a fight.
From female miqo'tes I love their /thumbsup

wish i could play long eleves. but that neck......and the running animation is nothing special either. they should make them more fun.

Miqo'te is the most popular race at the moment, right?

While the Elezen neck is definitely still as long as their distant Elvaan cousins, at least it looks a little more natural now, and not straight out freakish.
their tiny head makes them even more deformed looking now
hyur highlanders are like a more proportionate, though less elegant, evolution of elv imo
So do I, and I hate the starting outfit (I want dat elezen F starting outfit!) but that won't deter me from sticking with one as my main. Master race.
are there examples of Lalas obscuring designs of equipments?
i always thought one of the attributes of playing one, much like a taru, is that everything looks good on it

Are there any guides out there that explain how to make specific jobs? I want to make a caster of some sort but I'm not sure what is useless/important, when to switch classes, etc. I feel pretty overwhelmed when it comes to building a character in this game, but maybe that is because I only played a few hours.
Gotta admit, most the male Elezen(sp?) looked, odd. Too lanky and angular, like awkward teens that never grew out of it. I'm sure if I spent enough time with the character creator, I could make something passable, but Miq'ote start out a lot closer to where I'd like.
The Hyur look good in this setting too, but while I'm not absolutely opposed to human characters, its a little boring to go human. I mean, I'm human all day long, why would I want to spend even more time human!
Lallafel are cute and funny, but so far I prefer combat jobs, and I just cannot take them seriously as something like a Tank.
I don't know what you mean, but there will be anew character creator(and also benchmark) released on August 1st, you can save your desired appearance and use it when the OB goes live a week later or so.
I can't imagine them adding a lot of new options, but hey who knows.
Classes and jobs are pretty straight forward in terms of how to "build" them. Cross-class ability choice is something to factor in only later in the game--do not worry about it as you're getting started as it's not something you can ever permanently mess up.
Pick a role you want to do in groups in the game (tank, heal, melee damage, ranged damage) and then pick a class based on that. The rest will just come naturally. This isn't like D2 or EO or D&D where you need to spend hours researching skills and builds to get something useful.
I guess if you had more specific questions I could answer them, but for now I'm going to nod at your statement about only playing a few hours.

Yep, glad I'm swtiching to Roegadyn. Best race confirmed. They still need tails though.Again on this topic, but specifically talking about FFXIV 1.0. The site XIVPADS polled about 49k characters that were active by the end of version 1.0, they also counted how many characters were there from each race:
Hyur 32% - Miqo'te 26% - Lalafell 20% - Elezen 15% - Roegadyn 6%
So the "cat" race has always been one of the most popular ones in both FFXI and XIV 1.0, and now with the male counterpart, it won't be strange if they become the most popular race on ARR.
I only know Lalafell has the best jumping animation, it was not fair.
I don't know how it works from GMG, but Amazon sent me the code with a link to SE's website. And on that website (NA/US version), you give them your email address and SE will email you when you can enter your code.
You can disable displaying of head gear in character configuration in the system menu. Only time I had it off was when I was wearing an eyepatch (Going for the Vyse look).i just don't know which race to pick in this game. human mids are okay in size, but a bit too slender for my taste. heavy armor makes up for this somewhat. but a teen in armor is still a teen. maybe they will have a better face selection in open beta, then i could deal with it.
human highs are too large and their faces remind me of everyday bodybuilders. i don't think i can be happy with them.
catmen are fine. i like their presence, animation work etc. but wearing a helmet makes them look like armored mickey mouse.
gnomes are not an option. i like to have them in my party. i just can't play them.
Ever play WoW? I'm guessing it'll be something in-line with rogue (stealth ahead and sap a target for crowd control) or hunters with their traps, based on his comments. Nothing that hasn't been done before, and done well.

If its anything like WoW then its nothing to get excited about. Stealth and traps don't create any interesting/fun gameplay mechanics outside of pvp and being able to cheese quests.

I think helmets should be universally invisible outside of dungeons. Otherwise, there is almost no point in creating a face. Especially for tanks who wear the head to toe armor.

Tech question. In the beta, did anyone else with an AMD (or in general) run into lighting issues? In particular, when you entered rooms or buildings? For example, the entire room would flicker as if it were a strobe light for me then it would settle down. The Garlemond cutscene did the same damn thing too. It can be very distracting and hurt my eyes.
I'm running a HD 8950 w/ latest drivers.
Anyone else experience this?

For Disciple of Magic classes, the robe/cowl things are the worst. And there so many of them... I want to see my hair. Your hair is what gives your character the most identity in games like these. And they take it away so you look just like everyone else. It's terrible.
So just turn off displaying headgear?

You are a bad person. Toggleable stealth as a rogue is what created and let to much of my fun with WoW.

That doesn't work for the robe/cowl things because it's not considered headgear. It's part of your shirt.

For all you AMD people, I hope you gave your feedback on the graphics section of the forum. Because for us with superior nVidia cards, there were no issues.
But the armors in ARR actually make the elezen look good, by covering the ugly long necks, see the picture I posted above, and another example here:
If you turn off headgear, do other players see your headgear or is it always unseen?
You know, sometimes I wish I could slap you if you weren't so funny. That being said, I was planning an upgrade to a 760 anyways... =)
It's always unseen, unless my friend was lying to me!

Picture of Dhamel!
So, what you're saying is that the Dev's should make a couple, cowl up, cown down, models, so that mages actually have the option of showing off their faces?
Assuming its not an absurd amount of work, that'd delay other content, I'd agree with this. The more customization options we have, the better.
