wish i could play long eleves. but that neck......and the running animation is nothing special either. they should make them more fun.

Gotta admit, most the male Elezen(sp?) looked, odd. Too lanky and angular, like awkward teens that never grew out of it. I'm sure if I spent enough time with the character creator, I could make something passable, but Miq'ote start out a lot closer to where I'd like.

The Hyur look good in this setting too, but while I'm not absolutely opposed to human characters, its a little boring to go human. I mean, I'm human all day long, why would I want to spend even more time human!

Lallafel are cute and funny, but so far I prefer combat jobs, and I just cannot take them seriously as something like a Tank.

Hi guys, was reading through this thread and on impulse, pre purchased FFXIV:ARR CE, never ever played a MMO, well, that's not the issue, I got the game at Green Man Gaming and was wondering if any asian players(not japan) in Gaf can explain registration, I can't find my region or country in the SE account setup menu, thanks

My game is eu based

While the Elezen neck is definitely still as long as their distant Elvaan cousins, at least it looks a little more natural now, and not straight out freakish.

And I hate the way female Miqote jump.

So do I, and I hate the starting outfit (I want dat elezen F starting outfit!) but that won't deter me from sticking with one as my main. Master race.

Miqo'te is the most popular race at the moment, right?

It probably was in beta because of Mito'te M being new so everyone made one to try them out. In 1.x miqo'te was popular but I saw as many if not more hyurs and lalas. Hyurs seemed more popular among NA with lalas more popular among JP.

Miqo'te M may disrupt the balance of the Force even after beta test throw-away characters are done with.

are there examples of Lalas obscuring designs of equipments?
i always thought one of the attributes of playing one, much like a taru, is that everything looks good on it

their tiny head makes them even more deformed looking now
hyur highlanders are like a more proportionate, though less elegant, evolution of elv imo

I think elves can be made to look more natural, it just takes a good hairstyle to do it (one that preferably covers some neck space) that and not making them taller than they are - but some of the fun of playing an elf is also that you're taller than everyone else by a long mile, so the strange look may be intentional.

They do have major small head syndrome going on though. I think TERA's elves nailed the look best.

Oh totally!

But it doesn't actually have any stats so I just throw it out and wear a Disciple of Hand or Land level 1 shirt instead for those 30 minutes before level 5 equipment is available.

So I'll be staying with Miqote too. And it just feels like the right thing to do - continuing with the same basic design my Mithra was.

My eyesight is not the best. I just can't see some of the details well enough. Everything is like "squished" and I need to zoom in super close to appreciate things like clasps and ribbons and stuff.

So it's not really a problem with the design or anything. It's a problem with me.

Agreed. Pretty much everything looks great on taru/lalafell, imo. Minus the summer swimsuits, anyways... lol

Female Elezen are straight up amazing looking in this game. Still not as top tier as female Galka though. :-)

Are there any guides out there that explain how to make specific jobs? I want to make a caster of some sort but I'm not sure what is useless/important, when to switch classes, etc. I feel pretty overwhelmed when it comes to building a character in this game, but maybe that is because I only played a few hours.

Classes and jobs are pretty straight forward in terms of how to "build" them. Cross-class ability choice is something to factor in only later in the game--do not worry about it as you're getting started as it's not something you can ever permanently mess up.

Pick a role you want to do in groups in the game (tank, heal, melee damage, ranged damage) and then pick a class based on that. The rest will just come naturally. This isn't like D2 or EO or D&D where you need to spend hours researching skills and builds to get something useful.

I guess if you had more specific questions I could answer them, but for now I'm going to nod at your statement about only playing a few hours.

i just don't know which race to pick in this game. human mids are okay in size, but a bit too slender for my taste. heavy armor makes up for this somewhat. but a teen in armor is still a teen. maybe they will have a better face selection in open beta, then i could deal with it.

human highs are too large and their faces remind me of everyday bodybuilders. i don't think i can be happy with them.

catmen are fine. i like their presence, animation work etc. but wearing a helmet makes them look like armored mickey mouse.

gnomes are not an option. i like to have them in my party. i just can't play them.

I don't know what you mean, but there will be anew character creator(and also benchmark) released on August 1st, you can save your desired appearance and use it when the OB goes live a week later or so.

I can't imagine them adding a lot of new options, but hey who knows.

Awesome! I didn't want to get heavily invested into the beta because I knew it would be short lived but seeing some of the discussions in this thread were so far over my head got me thinking. Good deal. Gladiator at first and either conjurer or thaumaturge later. I'm sure once I get more invested I'll be back with more, but thanks!

Yep

It would be not that bad if it wasnt for the super short skirt. Theres something wrong when you can see her panties even if just running with the camera centered.

Also, IMO female Miqote are a little... to cutesy in their animations compared to the older Mithras.

I'll still probably roll as one, if just because I want to make a female character for once

Again on this topic, but specifically talking about FFXIV 1.0. The site XIVPADS polled about 49k characters that were active by the end of version 1.0, they also counted how many characters were there from each race:

Hyur 32% - Miqo'te 26% - Lalafell 20% - Elezen 15% - Roegadyn 6%

So the "cat" race has always been one of the most popular ones in both FFXI and XIV 1.0, and now with the male counterpart, it won't be strange if they become the most popular race on ARR.
Yep, glad I'm swtiching to Roegadyn. Best race confirmed. They still need tails though.

You can disable displaying of head gear in character configuration in the system menu. Only time I had it off was when I was wearing an eyepatch (Going for the Vyse look).

Ever play WoW? I'm guessing it'll be something in-line with rogue (stealth ahead and sap a target for crowd control) or hunters with their traps, based on his comments. Nothing that hasn't been done before, and done well.

If its anything like WoW then its nothing to get excited about. Stealth and traps don't create any interesting/fun gameplay mechanics outside of pvp and being able to cheese quests.

You are a bad person. Toggleable stealth as a rogue is what created and let to much of my fun with WoW.

Tech question. In the beta, did anyone else with an AMD (or in general) run into lighting issues? In particular, when you entered rooms or buildings? For example, the entire room would flicker as if it were a strobe light for me then it would settle down. The Garlemond cutscene did the same damn thing too. It can be very distracting and hurt my eyes.

I'm running a HD 8950 w/ latest drivers.

Anyone else experience this?

I think helmets should be universally invisible outside of dungeons. Otherwise, there is almost no point in creating a face. Especially for tanks who wear the head to toe armor.

There's an option for keeping the helmets invisible. So you can see your characters face, without losing the stat benefits. There are a few pieces of armor where this doesn't work though. Mainly the heavy armor set, the one that makes people look like Alphonse Elric. Because the helmet is built into the body armor, and is never technically equipped, you cannot make it invisible.

That alone would be enough to make me hate that armor, in and of itself. Whenever I'm stuck with it, my first priority always becomes to find something else. :P

I use an AMD card and noticed some random flickering from time to time in the background. Like, it is literally a fraction of a second where the background/sky will flash a green color or something. Wish I could get a screenshot, but it happens too quickly.

Not as dramatic, but I did notice a few scenes where it took a few moments for the game to settle on the right lighting.

Running the game off a HD 6850. I'll probably replace it, once AMD comes out with a refresh next fall. I stopped noticing this near the end of the beta however, so it may have been fixed.

For Disciple of Magic classes, the robe/cowl things are the worst. And there so many of them... I want to see my hair. Your hair is what gives your character the most identity in games like these. And they take it away so you look just like everyone else. It's terrible.

So just turn off displaying headgear?

I hate those robes, as BLM I like the classic FF mage hats, they look so nice, I hate the AF hat tho, is too ridiculous.

For all you AMD people, I hope you gave your feedback on the graphics section of the forum. Because for us with superior nVidia cards, there were no issues.

You know, sometimes I wish I could slap you if you weren't so funny. That being said, I was planning an upgrade to a 760 anyways... =)

Woah there, I don't think I'm particularly funny, but let's leave the skinship aside.

I have a 660TI and it's an amazing card for it's value. I'm skipping the 7xx series, I'll probably get a second 660TI by the end of the year and go with them until the 8xx series.

It's always unseen, unless my friend was lying to me!

Yeah that's the whole point of it, for people being able to see your character's face/head.

That doesn't work for the robe/cowl things because it's not considered headgear. It's part of your shirt.

So, what you're saying is that the Dev's should make a couple, cowl up, cown down, models, so that mages actually have the option of showing off their faces?

Assuming its not an absurd amount of work, that'd delay other content, I'd agree with this. The more customization options we have, the better.

You are a bad person. Toggleable stealth as a rogue is what created and let to much of my fun with WoW.

It lead to much of my fun too, only problem is 95% of the fun I had with Stealth was on a PvP server, and very rarely had anything to do with actual dungeon content or raids. Considering this game won't have open world PvP (that I know of), stealth wouldn't be nearly as fun as it could be.

Picture of Dhamel!

Haha, holy shit I haven't seen one of those things in years. Yoshida bring these back pls

It is probably an absurd amount of work for the animators lol, but if they are animating the face covers on the Warrior's AF helmet, I don't see why not, besides all cowls share the same model anyway.

Cool, good to know. The "Sallet" look terrible when mixed with other PGL gear, just awful. I can see it working with Dragoon or a medium armor set, but it clashes tremendously with clothing style light armor sets.
