PS3 Firmware 1.90 (XMB Backgrounds, order game listing, chg vid settings in-game)

lol, didn't someone here JUST demand to be able to eject discs by pressing triangle on a game/cd?

sony reads teh GAF?

I hope that this update will remove the ridiculously huge bars around God of War 1 when I have it upscaled. Does anyone know why this could possibly be happening? Everyone keeps telling me to put it on fullscreen... I'm not dumb I have it on fullscreen. Now all we need are some more ps3 games because there still isnt anything to play.

What I'm more curious about is why all the Kiosks around the US have a 'chat room' feature on their XMB, and why we don't.

The "chat room" icon does show up in the XMB. It is contextual. Whenever you are in a 2-6 person chat, bring up your XMB and look in the column where your friends are listed. The "chat room" icon will be there, along with the names of all the friends in that chat with you.

Whatever firmware update that launches alongside Home, I hope that the Home icon will be in the XMB regardless if you download the application or not. I think they could gain a couple of % more participants if that icon directly lead to the PS Store download link instead of people having to find it all in the PS Store it self.

Honestly, Id like to see the entire PS Store integrated right into XMB so its pretty seamless, downloading demos and videos and whatever else. I think loading up the store separately is kind of ridiculous, escepically since it looks soooo different than the XMB.

Also, the store "works" for now becuase of the limited amount of content on the PS3, but when it gets to PS2 level with the amount of games, demos, addons and whatever else, their current model will be a complete mess.

All I know is that when HOME is officially released, it will HAVE to be part of a firmware update.

It has to be in order to change the XMB bar, as long as adding that icon is what they are still planning on doing.

So Japan gets 1 new demo per month for an upcoming Japanese developed title:

-Hot Shots Golf 5
-Ninja Gaiden Sigma
-Folk Souls
-Bladestorm

I wonder what will be next...

obligatory bug-fix request, as usual now since fw 1.80 :/

--------------------------------------------------------

IMPORTANT BUG!

There is a still a bug as of firmware 1.82 in the fact that PS2 games video output is always either YUV or RGB Limited, even when RGB FULL has been selected.

Basically with 1.82, everything (XMB, PS1, PS3 and BD/DVD movies) can be displayed in RGB FULL (when BD/DVD is set to RGB too, of course) except PS2 games that are still output as YUV or RGB limited.

This is annoying because the brightness is way too high and the image washed out when playing PS2 games after RGB FULL has been selected and the TV carefully calibrated for RGB FULL.

Technically, when RGB Full is selected, the PS3 video output colorspace ranges from 0 to 255 for everything (XMB, Movies, BD Movies, DVD Movies, PS1 & PS3 games) but when a PS2 game is launched, the video output then changes and is limited to 16 to 235.

Sony, PLEASE FIX THIS.
Thanks.

You have every right/reason to post that here but this might be a better venue.

Thanks for the info, that's sad.
Could you try to help me by replying to this thread?

clearly tanod.
If you go and check the comments there, you'll always find 1 or 2 messages from me reporting this bug. For pretty much the last 6-7 news. ^^;;
I sent them emails about it too but never received any reply.
I'm just maximizing the chances it reaches them by posting here ;)
Later,

Yeah. I'm assuming they'll do exactly what they did with Folding@home, where the icon showed up, but you didn't have to download it until you wanted to.
I wonder where they'll put the Home icon.

DVD has regional locks, so does Blue-ray, though a little bit more relaxed (Japan, NA and SE Asia are all in the same zone). If you don't want regional locks, either get a DVD player that has the locks removed, or go with HD-DVD...
Actually, you'll find that many, MANY BD movies are either region free, or multi-region.

This site hasn't been updated in a while, but gives some info.

Tsk tsk tsk.

Anyone read the Threespeech link about new PSN content this week?

New PSN Content

The following content will be uploaded onto the Euro PSN store on Thursday 26th July:

PS One games:
- Crash 2
- Spyro 2
- Medievil
- Wipeout 2097

PS3 Demos:
- Heavenly Sword

PS3 Trailers:
- Ratchet and Clank: Tools of Destruction
- GT5 Prologue

So is the firmware available? I just woke up, I have no idea what's going on and I can barely see my monitor because my eyes haven't adjusted :lol

this seems like a good update, but I dont know if I will change my background, I really like the PS3 background.

being able change things around in the XMB will be nice, I will put games on top, then PS1 games, then demos.

-XMB backgrounds
-can rearrange games in whatever order we want
-emoticons/smilies

Seems small, but that's HUGE for me :)

Read again:

region 2 European PS3 can play region 2 Japanese dvds
region 2 Japanese PS3 can't play region 2 European dvds

I saw that, and it's either an abnormality or some Euro laws enforcing that on European PS3s, coz regional lock exists in most DVD players, especially a Sony produced one. Anyway, the point is you'll never get Japanese PS3 to play European DVDs, unless there's a freeloader or something in the future.

Yeah, one of my BR disc has no region symbols on it, I just wasn't sure if it's region free or not. Regardless, they should just do away with the region thing altogether, but I suppose region locks were there to help Sony get some of the studios on board.

I'm just interested and it's nothing major to discuss, but do any of these features overrun the famed 2.0 update? I know wallpapers and a music sampling rate were listed amongst the supposed 2.0. Anything else overlap?

As far as I remember, nothing else overlaps. The features you mentioned are the only one, I think.

Human translated:

* Enabled playback of AVCHD from memory stick and DV camera HDD.
* Enabled change of output settings during PS and PS2 soft play.

The first one is HUGE for me. We're going to purchase a new digital camcorder soon, and I have my eyes on one of the new HD + HDD cameras that record in AVCHD. Being able to play those videos back on the PS3 rocks. Now, all they have to do is enable streaming AVCHD files from a network server.

The second is cool. I've wanted that ability to do that because sometimes I want to change the options. Having to quit the game, make my change, and starting it again is a pain in the ass.

i don't want to sound over the top like some of the sony fanboys in this forum. but i have to say this......

SONY PS3 DROUGHT SEASON IS THAT OF THE NEW ENGLAND PATROITS 2007 OFFSEASON. YOU CAN'T DO NO WRONG.

its blitz after blitz of awesomeness all summer and its clear that sony do want to make ends meet.

Home will be integrated in the XMB as a new main icon with the firmware update. Then, when you click over it, you are asked to install HOME. Simple and perfect :D

My God. Europe and Japan share the same region for DVD's. You can freely watch ANY JP DVD in ANY EU DVD player.
