PS3 Firmware 1.90 (XMB Backgrounds, order game listing, chg vid settings in-game)

Sorry, but what? It's just the truth. I suffered with three defective Sets. You know how much money and time that costs? At this Pricepoint things like that should NOT happen!

You're still wrong for saying his set has clouding, so you could at least have the decency of shutting up.
This isn't the "make fun of someone's TV and bitch about Sony HDTVs" thread, afterall.

Also, since the update, there is a glitch in Folding at Home where it restarts your PS3 when you quit out. It doesn't seem to hurt anything but I thought I'd make people aware of it.

I've experienced this as well. I've shutdown Folding maybe 5 times since the update, and my PS3 has rebooted on me once as a result. I'm glad I'm not the only one.

Technically that shouldn't be a glitch in F@H, since it's a separate download and updated separately. Unless the FW update actually updated F@H somehow, it's really a glitch in the FW.

I KNEW it! I thought my PS3 was going crazy.

You're right. It's the transition between F@H and the XMB that has the problem and since F@H hasn't updated past 1.1, it would have to be an XMB issue.

1.91 incoming next week, I'm guessing.

One thing that I keep waiting for Sony to add in a PS3 firmware update is a feature to turn the console off if no buttons have been pressed in x amount of time (like the 360's option to have the console shut down automatically after six hours) or at least the option to turn a controller off after no buttons have been pressed after x amount of time. Because the PS3 is so quiet, I keep forgetting to turn it it off! (This is the only good thing about the 360's noise level). This seems like a super-logical feature for the console to have. Is it physically impossible for Sony to add these options for some reason? Or is a feature like this already in the menus somewhere and I just can't find it?

You need to set up folding at home so it's not just sitting there. Problem solved. :P

Actually, I'd appreciate optimal settings info for Folding @ Home, too. Is there a way to have it automatically kick in when the PS3 is doing nothing?

Anyone noticed yet that you can now read/send friend messages while watching movies/trailers, watching at pics and browsing the net? Totally AWESOME. Only in-game is left now, but Sony promised to fix that in the next major update, didn't they?

I'm having a problem. Ever since the update I've noticed that the colors on my ps3 go wonky every once in a while, and they won't return to normal until I turn the system off, sometimes twice. Everything looks fine and normal at first, until all of a sudden my characters will look like they have purple skin. It effects photos, movies, my wallpaper, just about everything. I haven't seen it happen during a Blu-Ray movie yet though. WTF is happening?

Well at least Sony is releasing pictures on the PS Store for users to download. I would've figured they do that, but weren't sure.

Even while watching DVDs (and I guess BDs)? I was only remembering the denoising/deblocking/scaling options.

Naw, it's been in the options. It might have been in a different place? but I knew it was in there before.

This update worked wonders for the PS3 web browser, before browsing Gaf used to be a hassle(Resistance thread would take ages) now everything loads all fast. Now if only I could get it to stop asking for a plugin every page.

LTRTFM? :)

Lain: That's been there too. I don't know which one is right either but you can try looking at the online manual and seeing what it says about it.

nope

It's not a glitch. That happened to me with Resistance at the Please Wait screen when you quit out. About 95% of the time i quit out during Resistance, it freezes at that screen, and i have to get up and manually restart the PS3. Now after the update, when it freezes there, it just restarts the PS3 automatically. It detects hangups and restarts now, from what i can tell.

I just noticed I can create and check messages from the xmb while surfing the web on PS3 now. This is a good step, no longer have to stop browsing to check what a message that was just sent was.

Yep. You can do that also while watching vids, pics or whatever is non-game activity basically.

When I go to the official Playstation 3 bc site, it only shows the updates from firmware 1.80. We now have 1.90. Where can I find an updated list? I want to buy Shin megami Tensei, digital devil 1 & 2 and Yakuza. Has anyone tried these on their PAL ps3? If someone can tell me if they work on the PAL ps3, I'd be very grateful!

No, I'm not dumb. I don't know your US Prices but here in Europe Sony is overpriced as hell, 500€ more than Samsung, Sharp and so on. And for what? For a nice defective Set with much Clouding, like on the Pic shown above.

Maybe I should show you pics of the Samsung 95 series cloudmaster I returned back in May. Ironically, Sony's clouding issues are Samsung's fault. They make the panels for Sony. Either way I went Samsung again and got a perfect panel second time around. The new XBRs seem to be cloud-free as well.

Sorry to bump this thread but I have a question perhaps related to the 1.90 update.

Photo viewing. When rotating a pic by 90 degrees did the final orientation "stick" once u leaved the Photo Viewer / turned off the system? Cos it does now, but I dont recall it did before the latest update.

Damn you for bumping this! My heart stopped beating when I thought there was a new FW update thread with 16 pages of replies.

Anyways I think the rotation has always stuck.
