Thanks guys, its easy enough to switch classes and jobs right? or is it just jobs you can switch around?

I also might want to go Arcanist, Ive played a lot of Druid and Warlock in WoW over the years, and I had a Mentalist in DAoC, so I do like DoT/HoT characters, so I might have to swing in that direction.

....or I can say fuck all that and go Lancer, cause Lances are fucking cool as hell and most games dont let you use them as weapons, haha.

I think ive only eliminated Pugilist and Marauder, everything else leads to something I might want to play, haha.

You can switch classes/jobs just by changing your equipped weapon.

Since you've played WoW, jobs are more like "specs" from WoW while classes are, well, classes. But yes, it's easy to switch between them. Switching a job on or off is just an accessory slot toggle and switching classes requires no more effort than changing weapons.

Cool beans.

I better make sure I like the look of my dude if hes gonna be all my characters in one! haha.

Character creator should get released on August 1st, so you'll have plenty of time to perfect it!

Nice. Any more betas?

I made a couple people in a beta a few weeks ago. Not sure if I want to be a catperson though, but he did have an awesome pompadour haircut, haha

It's also a function of weapon damage and other stats like STR/AP. Doesn't change the fact that PLD's damage is really good.... on single targets.

I assume they're fine, since I enjoyed GLD's and PLD looks to mostly be an extension of that job.

I'll still give MRD a try though, since it'll fit my character a little better, and start me off in a region I spend very little time in during the previous beta's. Besides that, looking at the stats and abilities, MRD's, "might," fit my play style a tiny bit better. I can always switch jobs later if I decide I don't like the job.

Question: I have a retail key from prior to ARR that I purchased on Amazon that I never used to associate to my SE account before they shut things down. Two things:

1. Since there's currently no place to enter this, does anyone know if this will still be valid?

2. If it is valid, will it qualify for early access? I'd doubt I get the goodies for pre-ordering, but early access would be great.

To those who were asking earlier, the early access starts on August 20th (7 days prior to release):

I can't find this on the official site, where did this come from?

1. Yes. 2. No, early access is for ARR preorders and people that paid for enough months of subscription for the original.
Open beta? Will it roll into release? ..whens release? haha
Yes. If everything checks out it will. August 27th.

7 days is a long Head Start.

Well, it is what it is. Squenix already got my money once for 1.0 CE, that's all they'll get from me in terms of up-front cash. I'll live without the 7 days of early play.

I'm sorry if this was asked before but in 1.0 I could select my starting city and starting class individually.
During phase 3 your starting city was dictated by the class you select when creating the character. Will I be bound to Gridania as a LNC once phase 4 / retail starts?
I'm sure this is just a way to prevent people from getting confused if they don't see their respective guild in the starting city they've chosen but I'd like the option.
Does it even matter story wise?

I think even at phase 4/retail your starting city will be bound to classes. It won't make sense otherwise since there will be no LNC guild in Limsa Lominsa or Ul'dah.

The new class, Arcanist, will start in Limsa Lominsa.

Thanks for the clarification!
Like I said, it didn't matter in 1.0. I started in Limsa Lominsa and made my way to Gridania to do my LNC stuff.
I just like the Limsa area more than Gridania's surroundings.
Maybe it's because I'm a San d'Orian at heart and still managed to get lost in Windurst without a map after roughly 7 years in FFXI...

Once you start using a SSD, you'll never want to go back. Loading an area in FFXIV takes like 2-3 seconds on my SSD. I think this is one of the best purchases I've ever made.

I would go with a 256 GB SSD these days. They are cheap enough that the additional storage is well worth it. Once you've seen how revolutionary the performance of SSD is you'll want to install everything on it.

It's worth it. Fast boot is bliss and it cuts loading times down to ridiculous levels. I have 2 SSD's in my PC :)

Thanks guys, guess Ill have to get one of those.

I'd get an SSD, but I tend to have two problems. The first is that they tend to be, way too expensive. I tend to figure that anything under 128GB is mostly a waste of my time, since even 128GB is only a handful of programs/games, and the price ramps up pretty quickly for SSD's.

The second problem is, the biggest benefit you get from SSD's, is from installing your OS on it. I could back up my HDD easily enough, but I've misplaced my Windows 7 disc, so a new install would be, problematic.

Still, cost is probably a bigger factor. I had a pretty big financial setback last year, and I'm still reeling for it. So, might grab one six or so months from now, after prices drop a little more, and money isn't so tight.

does anyone else have trouble saying lalafell......I still say Tarutaru in my mind :( darnit!

So I had a beta 2 invite that I never used, and I'm paranoid I won't get a beta 3 invite now cuz I did not use before.

Vote is essentially tied between M and F Roes when I add in off GAF votes. Am I going to have to level two characters? Lol

(Did this in xi as well)

BTW, I had a thought earlier tonight.

I know that, when you're a GLD, LNCR, CJR, whatever, there are certain skills that, once learned, can be equipped to other classes.

Doesn't this mean that, once they start releasing new jobs, that existing classes will suddenly have access to several new skills? Or, do you think they won't do it that way?

If they want them to, sure. Classes anyway. Jobs themselves, I think they would be pretty set in their ways.

Well, I'm just figuring that, it could potentially be yet another method of adjusting/balancing things out later on. Though, of course they probably already have plenty of methods of adjusting things out.

Classes don't have access to Job skills. Job skills are completely exclusive to the Job.

I'm sure they will. The fact that the current cross class skills are as limited as they are is probably for balance reasons. Also, Traits help with balance as well.

Beta Forum mods posted some interesting things today from Devs (particularly crafting):
Visors up! Beginning in phase 4, players will have the option to toggle the display of their head gear, as well as their main and off hand weapons from the Character menu. No more will you have to dig into config!
So I can keep my helmet stats but don't have to keep the appearance?
That would be nice, I always took mine off the second the fight was over.

So I can keep my helmet stats but don't have to keep the appearance?

Yeah, it was already in the Character Configuration menu in Phase 3. Uncheck the box, and your helmet vanishes. You're still wearing it of course, but now people can see your face.

The armor pieces which use more than one slot will still cover the face, like cloaks for mages and heavy armor for tanks.

Ugh lol I didn't even know about that.
I was kinda disappointed because DCUO did have it(and more options actually)
Glad I will know in time for the full game.

Thanks.

This is my character from beta. Funny how my final class, let alone look of the character won't actually look anything like this but I am happy with this a fair bit. I'm going to try to make my own rendition of Izana... that's my own rendition of Noctis. :P

I would like to make a rendition of Kirito from SAO if at all possible. I wonder if DUAL WIELD will be added at some point, maybe with jobs like ninja or maybe even dark knight.

Yes, well, most the genres I like typically play better on controllers. The exceptions are, FPS's and MMORPG's, and the latter is a genre I've only picked up recently. The former, for the most part plays well enough on a controller these days. Aiming is of course faster and more precise with a mouse, but not when you're muscle memory is geared towards controllers.

Why not use all three then? I play on PC with the analog thumb for movement and the mouse for aiming and interface + keyboard for chat, commands etc. Best of both worlds and really like games that allow this, it is very intuitive for me.

I really hope more limit breaks are added later on and they're made unique for each class. It's kind of lame using Braver as a lancer.

I'm pretty sure the couple of times I used limit break as an archer it was the healer limit break...

it really should be something else

on the other hand as an archer/bard, Pulse of Life could be really useful as in the beta I did usually find myself to be the last one alive when shit went wrong.

I'm sure this has been asked, so I apologize ahead of time. Do previous owners of FFXIV get any free game time at launch? Also, how much is the sub supposed to be for this game?

I bought the game awhile back during an Amazon sale for $8, registered the game, and logged in for all of about fifteen minutes, as I knew it was going to be shutting down for the relaunch.

if you registered your game to your Square enix account, then you'll get a realm reborn as a digital download for free.

You can find sub price under pricing here: http://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/product/

I vote #2 and that is the only vote who counts.

Don't make me hack all post to reflect my decision! ;p

In BG they say that's from the AU version of the site which had that banner when they site went live, but was removed soon after. No idea about dates.

Also there's a post in reddit from a supposed SE CS email:
