all the daww

I know you can only put so much in a movie, and people have undoubtedly said this, but definitely not enough of Cherno or Typhoon. Especially not Typhoon, which barely put up a fight once it got grabbed.

Man, I want a move with more jaegers. I want to see like all the countries have their own jaegers lol.

I kind of wish we could have seen more of the first gen ones like cherno.

But then again, I want to see some future jaegers also lol.

It obviously had great offensive capabilities with its spinning toss of Otachi...would have been fine if it could take more than one hit. Makes you wonder what kind of pussy Kaiju it's been fighting if one shot to the head was enough to kill the entire crew...

Interesting to see. They're definitely promoting the Japanese characters heavily.
Idris Elba isn't in either commercial, :lol

The first one sounds like he's saying "Ice cream!" in a heavy Japanese accent.

AISU KUREEEMU

They also make prominent use of the main theme.

Yeah, having the pilots in the heads in general isn't the best option, but you have to figure that the body is the best protection for whatever power sources are inside these beasts. Where else would you put the pilots but in the head? Cherno at least had what seemed to be a stronger design for its noggin.

Actually putting the pilots in the head makes perfect sense to me. The whole idea behind the Jaegers is that the piloting is as much by instinct as thought, right? That the robot basically becomes your body? Humans have a very strong instinct to protect the head, especially when fighting.

Man I freaking love that scene when Leatherback jumps out of nowhere and grabs Cherno. I legitimately blurted out "holy shit!" in the theatre at that part. Damn I wanna go watch it again so bad (this time in IMAX 3D). Fuck it I don't care anymore I'm just gonna go solo.

Movie started at 4:40, I think we walked into the theater at 4:55? They had to have started the movie early, or had NO ads/trailers in front of it, because we walked in right after the kid found the toy Jaeger in the snow. That's a good 10-15 minutes into the film.

Its not actually a toy Jaeger, its a classic but well known tin robot toy (I'm almost positive)

I have one, although its a remake to cater to nostalgia. Still pretty cool.

I am no stranger to crying with films that deliver an emotional and impactful story but my god did I shed tears here due to its utter awesomeness! When Gypsy Danger returned to battle the Gorilla looking Kaiju and acid spitter I was like ;_; the whole time. I wanted to get up and shout "GET HIM GYPSY!" but then I remembered I live in Blighty not Merica, lol.

This film is coolness incarnate, definitely have to watch it again on the Weekend. Robot fighting has never looked this spectacular and I adore the fact the action was easy to follow with no retarded shaky cam. Del Toro you beautiful SOB, you fucking nailed it.

Movie was fun... incredible visuals, and the sense of scale was just amazing. Never seen anything like that before.

A minor gripe was it was sometimes difficult to see what was happening during the fights. Detail overkill I guess.
Apart from the fights the movie is just ok, and full of cliches. But of course, you go for the awesome battles.

Almost 10 hours later and I now know what this nagging feeling I have about this movie. Also I was asleep for 8 of them :p

The other jaegers were basically utterly useless. We only hear of the power and might of crimson typhoon and Cherno alpha but they get destroyed within minutes of their first on screen fight. Same for striker eureka except you see him winning once through a news clip.

You can argue that the Kaiju were just that strong but even then it sounds like a excuse.
It felt like a power rangers episode where the main characters can't do shit until red ranger shows up.

Well, they were category 4 (first cat4 encounter iirc) and packing weapons the Jaegers didn't know about. The Kaiju used the element of surprise for maximum effect.
Plus, there's the line from early in the movie. Jaegers are only as good as their pilots.

That still didn't save them continuing the "Dark Materials" series though. Golden Compass didn't do very well here but did pretty well internationally if I remember correctly.
According to WIki: "Overseas rights to the film were sold to fund the $180 million production budget for the film, so most of these profits did not go to New Line." Warner Bros actually 'killed' New Line for that mistake so they shouldn't have made it themselves with Pacific Rim.

With all three jaegers having multiple kills and even Striker having more than anyone ever I would say that they are pretty good. The only redeeming factor is that striker got EMP'ed instead of slaughtered.

I think there were more cat4 kaijus, the one at the Sidney wall was one if I recall correctly.
I guess my main gripe is that they got defeated too fast. It felt like they only got a couple of jabs in instead of a decent fight.

I didn't even see the third pilot in the cockpit scenes of crimson! Or was that just me? :p

I really like the movie and I guess that is why I am so critical.

The russian Jaeger didn't get any action, poor fella got acid thrown at him before he could really get his fists flying :(

Also I just remembered something that really ruined my enjoyment now that I think about it. First thing, how the hell were they able to fix Gypsy so quickly after all that damage he received from the flying Kaiju. I mean the Kaiju attacks at the time were happening more frequently, you can't tell me it just takes a week for them to be perfected? BS! And the Jaegers are damaging cities as much as the Kaiju, who really is the beast here? Film sucks man.
