Trials Evolution (PC) is completely broken for a number of Nvidia users

I downloaded the Trials Evolution demo during the sale because it was a fun game on 360 and I wanted to check it out on PC.

It ran okay, but a little hitchy. No big deal, it was still totally playable and tons of fun so I decided to buy it.

Buy the game, download it, launch it. Uplay boots up, and then Trials attempts to start and I get this.

Broken PC game? Stop me if you've heard this one before.

Alright whatever, lets go to the Steam forums and look for a fix.

I get there and see

Game Crash after Press Start with Nvidia graphics? Please try this.
Hello all, if you are having issues with Trials Evolution: Gold Edition crashing after going through the splash screen, and you are running Nvidia 320 series beta drivers, can you try to downgrade to the 320.19 or 314.22 drivers? This has worked for quite a few players.

I do it.

Doesn't work.

Me and another person both ask whether there are any plans to patch it and if this is the only recommended solution (since it didn't work.)

Is there a fix coming?

Is this honestly the only recommended solution?

Yes, beta drivers will cause issues for some players. Using the latest stable release drivers is recommended.

320.49 are not beta drivers, they are the latest stable drivers and the game crashes on launch with them.

Are there any plans to release a fix with the latest driver version?

There has been zero response from either Ubisoft or the developer since then.

So I've done my own work and I've figured out that uPlay is the cause of Trials crashing.

When launching the game without uPlay installed it starts to load (further than it goes normally) and then it exits saying you need uPlay installed.

But, if you install a crack that allows you to play without uPlay, the game starts and runs perfectly fine.

The version of uPlay included with Trials Evolution is different than the current version that you're forced to update to and I believe it is the uPlay update that is causing the crash.

I'm hoping to either get some help, or some visibility so hopefully Ubisoft and RedLynx/Ubisoft Shanghai Studios can get this patched up and working again.

As it stands, the product that many serveral Nvidia users and myself payed for is completely non-functioning as it is being sold.

that sucks

can't really relate since i've been playing for a week now on a gtx680 and experienced 0 issues other than the random "framerate halves when you start track" glitch that goes away after pausing and unpausing

well that and Uplay

lazy-ass port

Same here.

This does not bode well for the upcoming Splinter Cell title, if it's all tied to uPlay as you suggest. Should be sorted out quickly if that is the case - but still makes me nervous, and solidifies my hate for uPlay/Origin/etc.

I wouldnt worry. Ubisoft ports tend to suck because of Uplay, but other than that they're often 'fine'. Trials has been known to be a sucky port since beta.

I wish I kept track of all the shit I went through with ghost recon. Shit was hell to get running without crashes.

After taking an entire day to get uplay working to run AssCreed II I swore to never bother with a uplay title again. GFWL and Uplay are the worst things to ever happen to pc gaming. The only issues I ever have in getting games to run revolves around those 2 piece of shit ecosystems

I don't own the game, but in my experience some tools like Fraps, D3DOverrider etc can cause uPlay (and games in general) to crash sometimes.

If you have anything in the background that can affect the game in anyway try turning them off and see if it works or not.

It's not like people (myself included) who have played it haven't been warning of the issues since beta.

I played the demo and recognized the issues that were present and was comfortable paying the amount I did for the product I expected to receive. The demo wasn't, in the end, representative of the game because the demo functioned and the game just doesn't.

No wonder I have not bought anything on Uplay.

Steam is also guilty since they sell Ubisoft titles with Steam DRM and Uplay.

wtf

UPlay stinks. Only problem I've had with Trials is that it doesn't stop my screensaver from popping up every 10min

What isn't broken for NVIDIA owners right now? I still can't get Tomb Raider to run without crashing on my GTX 670, even with the beta drivers which caused several games' FPS to nosedive.

Maybe it's not broken for AMD, but I can't play it on full-screen at 720p :/ And it's weird because I can with Trials 2.

Yeah, the port is garbage. It crashed on launch everytime when I first tried it and I couldn't find a solution online after searching for hours. I fixed it by opening the crash reports and simply noticing it crashed after loading a a software installed in my computer (MacType). I closed that and it simply worked.

Probably worth mentioning that this program never caused me any problems before, despite owning, installing and playing tons of games.

So really, is the 360 version of this the better one? I've not heard a single positive thing said about the PC release.

Probably. With the way things are going, I don't think the PC version will ever get the DLC either.

The PC version is in a close race with Dark Souls and Saint's Row 2 for "worst port of all time".

Fucking shame too, since it's such a great game. Hopefully Fusion doesn't have such an awful port.

Wow, that bad, huh?

I guess I was curious because I know the PC version has a couple visual advantages, but yeah... if it really is that busted (and seemingly, Ubi doesn't want to patch it since it's been broken for a few months now) and won't be getting the DLC, I guess 360 it is for this one.

For what it's worth, as shit a port as this is and as terrible as the support is and as broken as Uplay is and as ridiculous the hoops are that need to be jumped through...

I found that setting the resolution to 2560x1440 at 60hz has completely gotten rid of the micro stuttering that plagued the game and it's been running buttery smooth and looking crisp, clean, and beautiful and running like a good port should (except for the part where I have no access to any of the online functions because I have to use a crack to play a game I bought.)

Multiplayer is broken anyway. And the leaderboards are buggy.

With trials PC you need to play at a resolution thats divisible by 8, or otherwise you will have performance issues, due to the way the scaling works, or some crap like that

1080p is divisible by 8. I saw that help post you're talking about but it just seems like mostly coincidence.

There's a crack that lets you play without uPlay? Does it work on all games? This means I can buy Ubi games again.
Hah, to be honest I thought the same thing. I have a stack that I usually avoid unless I'm REALLY hanging for them because of that same problem.

This port is a piece of shit. When a game like this runs better on console you know they fucked up bad. I am running on a 3570K and a 770. There should be no dips in fps no matter what is happening on the screen in this game. played a ton of HD on 360, fair amount of Evolution too and can say runs a lot smoother on console. If you enable vsync the input lag is unbearable. disable vsync, tearing everywhere. A little explosion in the background, drops below 60. Fuck this port. Usually when I complain about a port it's because they didn't make it as well as they could have for a PC, not because they couldn't make it run as well as the bloody console.

I almost bought it during the Steam sale, but after my horrible experience with Fallout 3 on PC, i decided to try the demo of Trials Evolution, and it ran pretty bad despite me exceeding all the requirements they had and be able to play most games with no issues.

Really puts a dent in the whole "master race" when some developers just do not bother much
