Tales of Xillia in a week! Ahhhhh! So close, been waiting years for this.

Combat is quite terrible. This stems from their being resistances / weaknesses to weapon types, Piercing / Slash / Crush is the simple ones. Though with how weapons are equipped / used it works like a chained together system. Instead of what would have made more sense with switching between weapons. Feels poorly thought out. The attacks work by chaining through all of the weapons you have equipped. For example "sword, dual blades, dual blades, hammer" so pressing the button 4 times would = a single attack from said weapon in the order that they are equipped.
Design of the world gets in the way of the players POV also, which is another poor design flaw.
Monsters spawn in the exact same locations, so its not like diablo for example where they are randomized. Also in the same number as the initial amount first seen.
Was literally falling asleep playing this. The writing and such for the story and voice work seems ok, but overall the poor gameplay just does not make me want to continue on with the title.
Shin Megami Tensei IV. This game is awesome... I'm 20 hours in and not even halfway I bet, but who cares? I'm so happy to get a new game like this!
I have Fire Emblem: Awakening up next. I really want it to be the first SRPG I get into. Tried with Disgaea, but it was too silly for my taste (good game overall though, just not for me!)

Dropped Assassin's Creed Liberation, game looked good but I can't take anymore of Assassin's Creed for the next 5 years at least.
So now it's Jeanne D'Arc's turn. Until now I tried with a couple of SRPGs but always failed, never understanding how to play them correctly or getting bored a few hours into.
Let's see how far I can get with this one.

Just finished Xenoblade and I gotta admit that it lived up to the hype. I am thinking about getting The last story, worth it?
In preparation for the newly announced BoF 6, I'm sure?

I think so. The story is focused and the combat is enjoyable, if a bit repetitive. Definitely an interesting take on the genre. Kind of the complete opposite of xenoblade.
Have recently been on a JRPG streak, despite the fact that the genre usually doesn't really do much for me. Twenty hours into Ni no Kuni and absolutely loving it. As a big fan of Ghibli studios, it's great to see how they managed to keep the same style and feel as the movies. I admit it's a bit of a slow starter at first, but taking my time for it really made me appreciate the game and its underlying mechanics.
Also started up FFVII on Steam. The first time I played it was a good 5 years ago, and I remember enjoying it but not being as impressed as the everlasting hype surrounding the game made me think I would. Somehow I appreciate the game a lot more this time around, though I still wish I played it in 1997.
Finally, on my second run of Dark Souls, though not sure it falls under the JRPG catagory. Still need to get to the DLC areas. In Sen's Fortress right now, so just a little more to go for the amazing Anor Londo. Have no idea how to access the DLC area, but I intend to explore every nook and cranny of this game without a guide.

I look at this post from 2 months ago, and I laugh.
I finished that FFVIII game, but still haven't finished the FFX game, the Grandia game, the Xenogears game or the Xenoblade game I was playing. I did just finish Super Paper Mario (that's an RPG, right), though. I foolishly just bought the DS Golden Sun game too...

Ni No Kuni and FFXIII-2, 15 hours in for each. The last JRPG I've played on a home consoles was like 4/3 years ago. Both are great games and I wish more JRPG (with good production values) were made for home consoles.

I started up my Vita and searched through my menus because I was going to start adding new wallpapers, reorganizing, etc. I never knew that I downloaded Wild Arms (PSX) from my PS3 on here, and I never even started it up yet (I guess that shows how organized I was lol).
So I played it for a little bit and I'm addicted to it's gameplay. So for the next few days I'll be playing Wild Arms on my Vita.

I am currently playing through Ni No Kuni. For some reason it has turned into a slog fest for me at around 30 hours. It's gorgeous, the music's wonderful and the story is fine. I think it's the battle system / pets that are annoying me. They seem pretty generic and underpowered a lot of the time (or I'm doing something horribly wrong).
Regardless, I need to finish this soon since Tales and Mario/Luigi are about to release!

They are pretty weak until you start evolving them/ upgrading them with better items. You party members get some pretty useful abilities too (I don't want to give too much away).
Xenoblade - my favorite game of this entire last generation and one of my favorites of all time. It's that good. The only thing is I wonder if they will end up releasing an HD version on Wii-U, which would be glorious and invalidate the need to play it on Wii.
Runner up for next play I'd say Tales of the Abyss if you have never played it. The game is hated on GAF almost overwhelmingly but I really liked it's story a lot. Sure it's obtuse in the beginning but it all makes sense as the game progresses if you're paying attention. I also think it has a very neat plot "twist" in the middle of the game that I personally have never seen done before in a game.
Give whatever you want away (in spoilers lol)! Regarding the pets, I have a few that are "ready to evolve" but I don't have whatever orb it is that they require and am not sure where to get them. Maybe that's my problem...Anyways, my newest character is

From my experience, I'd prioritize Xenoblade or the Zeldas,but they're so good that you might get spoiled.
I have a long backlog of JRPGs myself and I need help. Stupid FE post-game content is still pulling me in, that game is dangerously addictive lol. I have yet to play:

I played this game 2/3rds the way through when it first came out and stopped. I'm playing through the whole thing again this time, almost at the end. The graphics really are pretty good and the combat is decent if a bit dated. Though as a Dragon Quest fan, I have no complaints. Next up will be Lost Odyssey!

I have never played Chrono Trigger, so I finally got it and fired up the SNES. So far it's pretty great, I've made it to the future setting and proceeding through the lab areas. Music is top notch, and I like the battle/attack positioning options, also digging the combination tech feature.
I tried to love Rogue Galaxy, but I couldn't get into the battle system. It was such a gorgeous game too. :-(
