Killzone Mercenary Beta Discussion

We do but the Home code apparently is for peasants and will be at the end of the month and like a week away from launch. Then they put up sign ups which Vita GAF didn't shout like they do to their stupid game visual novel Japanese shit so at least I didn't see that. So now there's people in the closed beta and I have a home code to wipe my ass with. :(

Well that's the code I have to give away

I completely forgot August 21 as the Beta for Home people, whoops

I got into closed beta by signing up through the website someone linked here or another site I visit

How the hell do all of you not have the beta, it was a prize during the E3 Home Event

They were giving them away like candy

Jesus some of you really need to dust off the dirt on your PS3's and log in from time to time

No

We're playing the closed beta. Codes came from facebook and twitter.

Visuals are incredible, still can't get over how good it looks. That aside, the game is FUN. The core of the game feels really good, just like any console multiplayer shooter. GG also didn't scale back any features offered, as there is a ton of stuff to unlock that is done in an extremely fair and clever way. Nothing besides Custom Classes is locked behind a rank, and every weapon/grenade/equipment/armor can be purchased with cash that you earn in game across SP and MP. It's a great system that allows even the newest of players to experiment with what works across all different types of weapons and what not.

I have sunk 10 hours into this Multiplayer in the past 3 days, and that's probably more than I've used my Vita in 6 months total. As I have said before, Sony has been given a gift by GG Cambridge in the form of this game. It is the complete package, something that I never thought we would see on Vita. Sony better take this and use it as a stepping stone to bringing more awareness to the Vita, especially when there is a game as great as this available.

This is a system seller, and a damn good one, no doubt about it.

I'm probably confused too as it's early here but what the heck - overall I liked the way the guns felt a lot, any heavier and it would feel restrictive imo. I know that is a draw for some people...but cod shows not for most :P

In kz2 I think it was the long input delay that caused the heavy feeling, it would be harder to compensate for recoil which probably gave it the extra weight...but it's not like you have a nice mouse to control the game!

gotta take the advantage when given - leads to a better experience, you can actually check your corners to play smart and not risking a wide angle unchecked/exposed because it would take too long to turn and check etc... I mean just generally running through hallways and most combat situations. Much more freedom like this. it's not that loose either.

although I might be wrong about the recoil and weight being totally due to the input lag differences
I don't know which game you're referring to in the first and third paragraph. If KZM, I agree that the feel is pretty damn good and shouldn't be changed, but I just want crosshairs to be nerfed a bit, especially for the M82 and the M4.

The recoil and weight were MOSTLY due to the animations. In the SP in KZ2 you had a really "weighty" feeling, but in the MP it was decreased a LOT.

I have no idea how to hack terminals, I probably missed the tutorial. Help?
First you touch one icon which corresponds to the two parts in the middle icon, and then you touch the middle icon. Two parts are then removed and now you do that once more, only this time it's easier.

Generally speaking, it's amazing in how many aspects KZM is superior to its PS3 brothers. Screen-space reflections, better hit-detection, better reaction to hits and a few more less noticeable things, but still...

This game is really amazing, however there's some stupid stuff holding it back right now. Like how the menus can only be controlled by touch? Touching your loadout everytime you die is so annoying and tedious.

Also they should map switch weapon to triangle, I hate having to touch the screen to change weapons.

MP looks good, though I think SP looks better.

4v4 is sort of disappointing to me...can the VITA not do 6v6?

The weapons and variety is making me more excited for SF's MP reveal. Love the melee animations, can't wait to see how brutal they get in SF.

How are the controls considering four major buttons are missing from the Dualshock? Sprinting sounds like it is cumbersome, how is grenade throwing and how do you crouch?

You don't have to touch the screen to switch weapons. Just tap the right d-pad

Sprinting can be done by pressing Circle when you're walking or by double tapping and holding any part of the back touch (what I prefer very natural). Grenade throwing is done be pressing the grenade button to equip it and throw of using R or you can press down on the dpad for a quick throw. Equipping seems pretty cumbersome to me so I should try pressing down the next time I play for a quick throw. Crouching is done by pressing Circle when not moving. I think they should take the sprint function out from Circle, because sometimes you want to crouch while moving but it just goes to sprint. Seems like a flaw and I'm confident they'll fix it.

How is a first person game on the Vita? It seems like a waste to me on a small screen, wouldn't third person shooters make more sense?

The high resolution screen lets you see a lot of the action and can allow tiny enemy movements to be noticed too. Play this sometime and all will be known, I assure you.

How does the MP compare to Killzone 2?

I actually think the reduced player count may be a good thing... 4 v 4 seems more personal and intimate.

KZ2 and KZ3 especially became wayyyy too much of a clusterfuck at times. Constant rocket spam and mech spam garbage made it extremely annoying.

Looks like KZ:M is stripped of all the bullshit that made either of those games frustrating.

so... on a smaller screen, fill it with a character filling up space and making less room to see around. Give it a back angle meaning you also see less from the scenery...

How can that make any sens to you ?

Great so far for me but my fucking claws are having the hardest time with those tiny analogs. I feel the acceleration can be smoothed out a bit when aiming... Starting out slow is fine but the break point to swinging the gun hits a bit too quick. That curve feels a bit too sharp for tiny analogs. Fine adjustments are spot on but the acceleration when turning kicks in too quickly. I feel it can be smoothed/slowed down a bit.

Everything else is more responsive compared to KZ2/3. Touch controls are nice but there is a learning curve associated with tapping front/back as I'm used to clicking in analogs.

I try to stay away from FPS on handhelds but this is a better translation to the genre on Vita that I have experienced.

I feel the form of the hardware is the only thing keeping me from sailing past a 1:1 as I find myself trying to click analogs and feel for triggers ha! Getting killed while fumbling with form factor since I'm so used to a controller will take time to get used to.

The FOV is a bit misleading as I constantly feel like I'm on top of everything and there's not enough space. Level design feels a bit cramped due to it making it a bit difficult to strafe around corners you know are there but bump into them due to FOV. Too many corridors make it difficult to setup LOS - 99% of my gunfights wind up face to face or face to back, making it difficult to setup a proper flank. Maps are too closed off, IMO. Traversing them with ease will require more playtime to memorize setups. I'm primarily a BF player so I am used to more open environments, tho. So my critique of level design comes from what I prefer. Lots love the more CQC style maps and I'm fine with it but the occasional slightly opened up map would be nice. The design is intended and works for what it is going for tho. I just have a preference.

Other than that, loving the modes so far. Pickups are nice. Guns feel great to shoot. UI is nice but can be a bit in your face at times. I prefer a thinned out UI, myself.

Don't forget to play Mercenary Warfare tonight, it's TEST NIGHT

Played some matches with MaximusPrimus earlier today, very enjoyable. Spawn placement needs to be sorted out a bit though because we spawned opposite each other in a Mercenary match ;P

Draw distance is GREAT for a handheld game. I was picking off enemies across the map with ease.

Hope to see you all in a couple of hours! PSN: StevePharma. The Join Friend option is really well thought out.

Someone else posted on the other page pics with many of the UI options tunred off and I have to say With all of them on it does seem to be a bit much but at least they give you the option to adjust the ui to your liking.

Also does anyone know if the beta keys being used are from pthe e3 ps home event and Being that I got one and dont remember what i did with it can I still log into ps home and retrieve it?

^^the PS Home beta key is for the open beta later this month. The beta going on right now is the closed beta.

This is a repost of my problem I sent to GG feedback:

Whenever I try to join a game it says that I was not able to make a connection to the host or it says I have lost the connection to the host when it blacks out during loading. When I am able to join a lobby, I am always the host and no one else joins. I have seriously tried hundreds of times to join games, but I've only played I believe a total of 6 games. I've restarted my system, created a DMZ, restarted my router all so many many many times, and nope nothing works. Others on the forums are also experiencing this problem. Can you please look into this?, because I enjoyed what I played quite a bit and would love to play more. Thanks for listening!

It's still like this even after the patch. Does anyone have any idea what to do? Btw I have a Belkin router.

I've been blown away by this game technically.

The IQ is incredible given the solid framerate and excellent graphics. It even plays much better than I expected, I wasn't really that interested before hand, but soon as I played it a week or so ago, I couldn't wait until this initial public closed beta started so I could start talking about it.

Are there going to be more than 3 modes for the full game?

Ok thanks. Well I hope those keys at least give early access to the open beta otherwise I did all that boring stuff for nothing.

Anyone heard of any closed beta key giveaways I am so impressed with how well people are reviewing the beta i dont think i can wait even a few weeks

Don't think so. Warzone has multiple rotating objectives (although I still haven't got interrogation right yet) which makes it more varied. I actually think there's only about three game modes in Killzone usually anyway?

I think he is trying to figure out the same thing I am . If its going to be open beta on august 21 then whats with the keys when anyone can download the beta by then. When I recieved my beta key at the e3 ps home event I assumed it was for one of the closed beta phases. I mean Its kinda wack if I Had to spend like a hr doing silly tasks to get the key only for others to just turn on their ps vita on august 21 and just download the beta

lol saw this on the Beta forum

Those things can be killing machines if you pilot them right

Ohhhhhh. The open beta isn't available for just anyone to download. Only people like you who have the key can get in. So your efforts weren't for nothing.

Oh ok cool. Not that it would have stopped me from playing. I am so mad at myself that I wasnt following the game close enough to know about the closed beta keys. I guess I let my assumptions of it being another over hyped vita shooter like COD was. Man does it seem like I was wrong. Maybe this is finally what the vita needs to get sales in the west. I guess I just have to keep playing hotline miami on my vita until the 21st

I still cant believe they didnt sent closed beta codes through PSN to long time KZ members. Fuck.

I got a Home code for the fucking 21st/28th (I dont really know) and its killing me this shit is up and running right now. Also if its an open beta in like 3 weeks, why the hell did we need a code for that phase? The hell is this shit. Yes I am pissed, let me rant.

Seriously? The open beta will need a key too, how is that an open beta?

Does anyone have an open beta key then? From PS Home during E3 2013?

I guess they really mean open beta as in open to many psn users instad of just a few and not actually a public beta.Who knows though

Huh, so those home beta keys weren't for the closed beta, but for the open beta? I thought mine just went invalid because I was supposed to redeem it by a certain time.

I think this is the first beta I've applied for and didn't get in. Shame because it looks good. I have a code from Home, so I suppose it's not that bad.
