Damn. So... what's going to happen to my character ? I was a third through the main story, I believe. Will I be a third into the new story ? That would be weird...
No, everyone starts at the start of this story arc, it's a continuation so yeah wouldn't make sense for people to skip past it all and miss it.

During story events you will be scaled down to what ever level the event was tuned for

Only way to pass the time till friday:

I see. Thanks. I guess I'll watch the original story on youtube.

Since you failed to defeat Nael van Darnus, your character got killed by Bahamut, to be more specific one of the debris from Dalamud fell on your character and got crushed :(

Does the client get released for download before the beta? Or do we have to wait for the beta to start?

Yeah, it should be up some time before like at the start of phase 3. 2-3 days maybe.

I see. Thanks. I guess I'll watch the original story on youtube.

Is there a link to a good youtube video that covers the 1.0 story? I only played 1.0 a little bit so never really got into the story at all so I'd like to get caught up just so I'm at least a bit informed on the lore of the game.

Very true. We had a lot of drama as a result of this in 1.x when we started scheduling events in for NA playtime and most EU players were retired/retiring for the evening by then.

I'm hopping on the US server, I've been saying it the entire time the amount of people ingame during the times I was playing were plenty to get a group going.

Is not a problem of "there's plenty of people playing in my timezone" rather than "will be people to prepare and schedule end game content on a timely basis?"

And when I mean people I mean people I and you can trust and hang out without elitism or other rather poisonous MMO behaviors.

That said Ultros GAF should be fine, if enough ppl sticks long enough.

As you said, for FCs since it is end-game oriented I think it's best to wait until most new people get to level 50.

Actually, I'm saying the opposite of that. FCs seem designed for everyone. They make it seem a like quite a few way to gain points for the FC will be tied to helping new players or at least getting them to join. Stuff like getting exp bonuses from what you put into your FC's HQ also seem more geared toward lower leveled characters.

My Canadian EB didn't have any codes still. Hope I don't miss out on the pre-order items as well since it's tied to the same code.

By the time housing comes out, people should already be 50, before then and until we see the -real- details about the FC benefits and workings, everything is just speculation and random comments.

Hopefully Thursday's stream will have detailed information about FCs, if not at least I hope they do a detailed post about them on the forums.

So guys.

During Phase 3, I was playing around with the client and I noticed that it supports Steam Overlay. It actually works on the benchmark too, you can test it out yourself by adding the benchmark as a Non-Steam Game and then launching it from Steam.

So since Squenix was nice enough to include Steam Overlay support in ARR, I went ahead and created a Steam group. Anyone is invited to join this group and really all I'm thinking it will be for is the chat room, where Gaffers can gather whether they are in the game or not. Also ARR has this stupid limitation where you can't whisper anybody when you are in a dungeon, so if you want to talk to someone who isn't in your LS or FC you're boned. So this might be useful for that too.

Since we are scattered across multiple servers, this could be helpful to help Gaffers congregate and find out where to go as well.

The group is public, so if you want to join go ahead.

People who begin playing at launch will be, but FFXIV will likely see new (GAF) players all the time.

While we don't know the details, the general impression I can get from looking at many live letters and interviews is that FCs are not designed to be exclusively endgame.

Gamestop is telling me that the early access to the game is only for the PS3 version. Is this correct?

Already answered, but no, not correct. They screwed me out of my preorder code, too. I'll be cancelling my order there. Amazon sent me the early access code within 15 seconds of me completing my transaction.

Still no preorder codes from amazon.de makes me kinda nervous :-/. I will be heartbroken when they fuck this up and I don't end up getting early access. The good part is, no one seems to have gotten a preorder code from amazon.de yet, so it probably is just amazon.de beeing slow bums.

You can always contact them and make sure it is suppose to be this way. You still have time to preorder from other places if in doubt

I think my current PC is just about tapped out. I have an i7 920 over clocked to 4GHz and a 6970 on which I'm in the process of installing a new cooler. With the stock cooler, I was able to boost up my gpu clock to 920 and memory to 1500, but with furmark it would reach about 100c by the end of the basic test. With that, the lowest framerate I got in the ffxiv benchmark at 1080p max settings was 30fps, during the scene where dudes are fighting imps and the camera pans around to the dudes on chocobo. I hope the new vga cooler allows me to bump it up a little further, but I'd be happy with 30fps minimum and no overheating. I bet I sound like a crazy person.

BTW.

Somebody just accused my character of looking like, "Kitty Squall!"

So whats the prognosis Gaffers? Is she wrong? Or am I going to need to redesign my character?

Nah, he dosn't look like Squall.

I guess is because he has that bishonen kind of face, like Squall, but he really don't look like him.

The scar does seem to be there to make characters look like Squall. Yours looks a little too happy to be mistaken for him, though. :P
It does seem weird that the end game group thing would be so much larger.

If that makes you feel better, Amazon.fr claim they'll send their codes on the 16th.

I'm sure this has been discussed before, but the thread's perhaps too large and varied to reliably search. How is the early access shit going to work? Are they actually billing and shipping out the package prior to official service launch, or just emailing codes? Are other OG release buyers just "fake" preordering off websites with the intention of canceling once they send codes?

Can anyone comment on this?

Can anyone comment on this?

The site where I pre-ordered from (ShopTo) has an option where you commit to buy the game from them, this way they won't accept any cancellation after you click on that option, they didn't charge me at that point tho.

So as soon as I committed to buy (since June), they gave me my code and now I'm just waiting to put it in the website.

Shame I couldn't spring for the Collectors Edition just for the Coeurl Mount and Behemoth barding which are both awesome. Hope theres plenty of other mounts and cool bardings so I don't feel like I've missed out too much.

My first paid up MMO sub locked in. Never thought I'd see the day. Guess remade Eorzea and dat lighting engine just has enough pull on me.

I was thinking more along the lines of Amazon or Best Buy who have presumably never done stuff like you're referring to. I mean I paid $80 for fucking 1.0 CE, we should get early access after that broke ass shell of a game.
