Sure, but as someone who divided playtime in WoW pretty evenly between a disc/holy priest and a rogue, I am used to adjusting for positioning on the move and not easily doing my max DPS against something that's moving around.

Was full rogue all the time for the entire time I played WoW. Combat daggers and assassination had the highest dps at times, but it was always within shot of swords/fists, with swords/fists being able to do it easier. Fact was that straight combat (and rarely and with the right gear subtlety) was just better all around for more scenarios though. Just saying.

People say to level up the "sub class" to 15 first so you can level the main class to 30 in one go; you can do it either way. So you'd level the subclass 1-15, switch to the main class, level it 1-30, unlock the one or two jobs for the main class, and then switch between the main class and jobs from 30-50.

Thanks I played FFXI and you had the subjob bit and had to keep it up with your primary like 30/15 or 60/30.

In this you would just level the required classes more to get the abilities right? So if you have an ability on your level 15 you can use that in your main job? I'm sorry I sound confused cause I kind of am lol.

There's no "requirement" past getting it to fifteen but you can equip abilities from it and one other class to your job. You can equip a limited number of single abilities from other classes so leveling up other classes to specific levels for certain abilities can really help you out.

Edit: Sorry, read it again. I guess I could've just answered "Yes." :P

It's not really anything like FFXI. To even use the "jobs" you need one class at 30, and another at 15, and they are specific to each job you are trying to use. Dragoon for example you need Lancer at 30, and (we think) marauder at 15. Then you do the quest to open that job, and equipt the soul, and then you are a Dragoon. Jobs can only use cross class skills from 2 other classes, and use all the skills from the third main class it is linked to. Staying with Dragoon, you are a lancer, and can use all the lancers skills, but can also use the cross class skills from Marauder, and Pugilist, as well as the unique Dragoon skills. If you remove the dragoon soul then you are just a lancer, but can use the cross class skills from any other class, but not any job skills.

Jobs don't level, they just take on the level of their base class. So say you are a level 30 lancer and put on the dragoon soul. You are now a level 30 dragoon. Level up 5 times and you are a lv 35 dragoon. Take off the soul and you are a level 35 lancer. The skills you get from a job come from quests that you can do at different level increments.

Hey, I'm curious about something, and I realize that the best answer I could get is a guesstimate, but oh well.

About how long would you guys expect it to take, before we started seeing AMD optimizations making it into the PC version of the game? The launch version seems to be heavily nVidia optimized, which makes sense, since those same optimizations were probably necessary to get the game to run on the PS3. The PS4 however, is all AMD parts, so eventually they'll be making AMD optimizations by default.

I'm just wondering if we should expect this.

PS: My occasional frame rate drops aren't due to my CPU. I'm actually outscoring some people with Haswells, running the exact same GPU. Unlike most MMO's, FFXIV ARR, seems to be GPU limited, and since this game is heavily optimized for nVidia GPU's, that's more noticeable for those of us running AMD cards.

I'm just wondering if we should expect this.

The PS4 client will be based off the DX11 client, so I don't really think that there will be any "optimization" per-se, it will mostly be a port job. Although there's always hope for improved drivers from the AMD camp, but I don't think it will be a priority for the development team.

Oh I'm not expecting anything TOO major, but I'd expect a little optimization, just so the game would run at a slightly steadier frame rate. I mean, I'm essentially running the PS4 GPU already, and I get 60fps+ most of the time during the benchmark. During the scenes with huge draw distances, or tons of stuff going however, it'd drop to as low as 35fps (very briefly). Since that seems mostly to be a function of the GPU, I'd think even a tiny amount of optimization would, "mostly," fix that.

I mean, you're right that, it may not be a priority. It probably depends just how successful the game is in the opening months. If they're holding onto over a million subs after the first couple months, I could easily see them pouring a few extra resources into the PS4 port. If not, then they'd probably go as cheap as possible and rough-port it.

But maybe that framerate issue could be improved with better drivers from AMD, and if it doesn't happen from them, then I'm sure Yoshida will have a hand on it, since the last thing they want is to have framerate issues on the PS4, even if that means to "just have" a comparable IQ to the current DX9 build and not to the DX11 build.

DUDE

I thought it was already on

Yeah man, with that shitty gif I thought for a second that they had announced the beta date on their twitter or facebook or something,

just let them know. Thats what I did when I never got my code. They resent me the e-mail for my code.

I just called Amazon. They said my code should come by email within 2 days of making the preorder. So I think I am good to go. Hopefully that is right and I get it before the 8th.

I meant it's finally happening in English live, at least I assume so

Having live subtitles might be a stretch I don't know, but from the lodestone:

Questions will be forwarded to Naoki Yoshida who will attempt to field as many questions as possible, and to the best of his ability.
*Please note that the audio will be available in Japanese only.

Those of you who are unavailable to view the live broadcast, never fear! All the questions and answers will be posted on the official Twitter account in real time. Furthermore, a Q&A summary will be released via the official forums shortly thereafter.

Better drivers would help, and, I just remembered that FFXIV ARR was just announced as being part of AMD's Gaming Evolved Program. Hopefully that means either, optimizations, or that new drivers will be targeted at improving performance.

You know, either one. My own little niggling frustration aside, I'm all for making this game run smoothly for as many people as possible.

how will the Q&A work then? considering:

It is also possible to ask questions during the live stream. To do so, please follow the official FFXIV Twitter account (@FF_XIV_EN) and send tweets containing the "XIVLive" hash tag.

They just get translated? How would you know then that your question has been answered. ( without watching the recording with subs on YT ).

They could read the Twitter names, now that you'd be able to understand their pronunciation of your name is a different thing. But one of the community guys is the one that reads the tweets, selects them and pass them over in Japanese for them to answer.

Now, if they don't read the name of the person doing the question, the only way that you'd know if they answered the question is reading one of the live blogs or summary later and seeing the question that you asked, answered.

There is a very high chance that many more people will get to ask the same question, that you might have. And I would say that there is even a higher chance for them to just answer question that have already been answered on every interview of the past 6 months and give no details about the important things that we are have yet to know: SMN, SCH, Free Company details, PvP, dungeon tokens, raids, etc.

I actually expect more questions about when are new jobs, beards and Vieras coming, than detailed information about what I mentioned before.

Also the new CEO, can't remember his name, will make an appearance taking Wada's place, just as he did during E3, to show new housing artwork.

Shall I make a new beta thread?

That would be great, but don't get it up just yet. It would be best to have it ready for the Live Letter, and soon as they announce the beta date, to post it.

Because if we start a fresh thread right now, it will have 10 pages from now until the LL of just people asking: "So when is the start of the beta?"

Questions:

I want to group with a friend, like, all the time while we play. Can we just follow the questlines and still level at the same rate? Or do we have to share exp from monsters fought, resulting in less xp than intended?

Also, what crafting should I get into in order to be able to set my own materia?

So when is the start of the beta?
hi
It's page 132 of an old thread, so all is well on the land of Eorzea.
hi

Unfortunately (or fortunately of depending your point of view) story quests have plenty of solo instances, however there's still a few of them (and most of the sidequests) that just involve mundane tasks of killing X amount of monsters or getting Y amount of some item, and those can be done and shared in a party just fine.

What you could is just run alongside, do all the stuff together at the same time, talk in /say /tell or /linkshell and do your solo instances by your own, when both have done them, move on to the next part, etc.

When you reach dungeons, then you will be able to party to complete the quest and get the experience, and basically just level from running dungeons together (and with more people). Also it is very likely that the last story fights will need 8 people.

Materia melding depends of the type of craft the item is made with, i.e: jewellery from Goldsmithing, swords from Blacksmithing, a cloak from Clothcrafting, etc. So unless you level all crafts you won't be able to do all the materia melding by yourself, so just pick whatever you fancy most, like making weapons, or armors, or potions, etc.

You can level together while questing just fine. However, you will have to split your party up for a few solo-only instanced battles. You can reform and resume as soon as everyone finishes, though.

Also, what crafting should I get into in order to be able to set my own materia?
Armorer can set materia in armorer-made armor. Goldsmith can set materia in metal jewelery. Weaver can set materia in cloth armor. Etc.

Seems like a problem that would be fixed by having the answer in the thread title and first sentence of thread.

Oh and another thing:

I believe crafters can affix materia to gear in other player's inventories, like they could in 1.0. However no one has said anything about that. I'm left unsure.

Here? In GAF? I think it is better to wait until the LL.

Yes they can do that. You just flag yourself up for it, need the materia and catalyst with you, and the crafter will click on you and do it painlessly.

For those confused about jobs, just think of them as a "mode" more than a separate class. A lancer goes into dragoon mode, but is still a lancer.

Fair warning: setting materia in low level gear has minimal overall effect.

To summarize, each piece of gear has a stat cap. Any materia that adds to an already capped stat will contribute zero or less than what the materia actually has. You can add materia for other uncapped stats, of course, but Grade 1 and 2 materia bonuses are incredibly low. Also, leveling is so fast in this game that you'll eventually out-level your equips.

Level a crafting class as you wish for slotting endgame equips, but I wouldn't prioritize it for slotting stuff at the lower levels. It just doesn't seem worth it that early on.

It's a stupid system though, I wish we could just have jobs and subjobs back.

I'm so fucking happy I don't have to keep any subjobs leveled though.

Why do you want a subjob? This is no FFXI.

I do agree that the Class system is stupid and that there should be just Jobs.

I do really like the ability to be in a "solo mode". Soloing as a CNJ seems pretty slick, but I imagine WHM would be terrible. Its nice to be able to switch my abilities and still contribute towards vertical progression with a single "class/job".

With the multiple ones for each class coming I think they will end up being more like "specialization" in wow, where they will offer a set of skills that may change your play style within the class you are playing.
