Nintendo Direct WiiU/3DS @ 8/7 - NA: 7am PT, EU: 4pm CEST

A very nice selection of games coming out for WiiU before the year is out, which actually makes it look quite a tempting.

but for me personally although these games look good and fun and the line up is diverse, they do not justify a £250 price tag.

I also wonder what nintendo expects devs to do a year from now when developmnent is in full swing on platforms that a generation ahead with 5x times the ram and flops.

it really boggles my mind why nintendo would create a system that will give devs headache when porting over games, especially when it was a major a criticism of there previous console, its just a really poor business decision.

anyway to keep on topic i liked the direct, there will be a lot of fun and diverse content on the platform so your investment will feel justified for the near future, but maybe not so in a few years.

Just show me a zelda game in the same theme and style as OOT but will all the niceties the wiius power will bring, and I will be sold.

By the time zelda wiiu comes out it will probably £149 which would be a very nice investment
but if they do another cel shaded POS they can shove the wiiu.

What if Nintendo announces you can visit other regions after beating the elite 4 in X & Y? Those train tracks go somewhere and the amount of data on the game card is huge.

I expect 25 minutes of gameplay from Pikmin 3, Wonderful 101, and Wind Waker HD. I don't think they're gonna do anything special this time.

I guarantee you the budget for Pokemon X/Y are smaller than whatever Battlefield/AssCreed 4/Watch Dogs/Destiny/Titanfall, and its going to probably outsell them all.

Battlefield 3 sold like 15 million copies, wasn't the last pokemon released on DS close to 7-8 million copies worlwide?

what do you think guys

199 still a bit pricey for the wii u, they're doomed if they can't drop to under $99 for xmas like other current gen consoles like the 360. they need to knock them down low enough to try to get away with being branded as an accessory to the ps4 cuz once next gen is here no one would be caught dead with a wii u in their shopping kart by itself

What are you doing

As a non-Wii U owner who wants to buy one, I'm really disappointed Nintendo hasn't sold me on it yet. I don't care about release dates or updates on current games. Give me a reason to buy the console. I want the following:

-Account system. Is this so unreasonable to ask for? Live in the current world, Nintendo.
-N64 and GBA VC. I don't care for the Gamecube, but they promised us the GBA VC.
-Games. Where are they?

Another Nintendo Direct where I'll go into it, hoping for a Metroid game of some kind...

and another Nintendo Direct that will surely disappoint me...unless a surprise 3DS Metroid is in development and skipped E3 for some inexplicable reason.

Even if GameCube VC games were announced, we'd probably only get about 20 or so games max due to the relative complexity of emulation.

Too bad I'll be at work during the Direct... :(

I'll have to rely on GAF to tell me what is going on... So please be quick to open that thread when they announce Bayonetta - Climax Edition is coming to the eShop. I'm counting on you.

You know what? I think I figured out why Nintendo announce directs so late/ a day before it comes out XD

It's for Nintendo GAF's sanity =P, do you guys remember the thread on the Direct announced 2 weeks ahead?

I expect Nintendo to show off their one game that can rival PS4/XBO visuals a few days before the new consoles launch in a special Nintendo Direct.

I think that Direct will also show new Smash, Kart, X and Bayo 2 footage as Nintendo attempt to take as much attention as possible away from PS4/XBO launches.

Let's not get hasty here. How much have the Battlefield TV show, movies, and merchandise made? Certainly when you factor that in, AAA becomes totally worth it.

How much has the Pokemon TV show, movies, and merchandise made?

BTW, I'm not continuing the conversation above. I totally think AAA games can be worth their budgets.

How much has the Pokemon TV show, movies, and merchandise made?

I daresay that's my point.

(I'm on your side)

Edit: And yes, they certainly can be worth their budgets. But clearly CoD and Battlefield are the rare exception. I mean, Tomb Raider sold very very well, but it wasn't enough because of the budget apparently. DKC with a AAA budget wouldn't make it sell more.

Battlefield 3 sold like 15 million copies, wasn't the last pokemon released on DS close to 7-8 million copies worlwide?

Black and White 2 was not made by the main team. It was like a spin off even tgough it had a number. Many people skipped it because of that, including myself. The first Black and White also sold around 15 million copies. In a aimilar fashion, Medal of Honor: Warfighter, a game between Battlefield 3 and 4, did terrible in comparison.

Pokemon X and Y is in the main series by the main team. The game already looks very good, and many people who passed on BW2 will likely pick this one up, especially since it's a worldwide release for the first time.

I would submit that the major reason Galaxy played differently is the gravity mechanic. 3D Land was like a way toned down version of the non-gravity Galaxy levels.

Edit: That's not to say that Galaxy and Land/World are the same. The gravity mechanic is a big deal, and I would kill for a Galaxy 3. I'm just saying that people are more pissed about the camera angle than the level design, even if they don't realize it.

I'm gonna enjoy 3D World a ton. My brother and I are wicked excited to play multiplayer 3D Mario, but I'm still a little disappointed. Level design and the camera angle has very little to do with the majority's complaints, imo. It has everything to do with how Mario controls (at least for me). I don't like the idea of a run button in a 3D Mario game, though, it did work well with the level design in 3D Land, it's not what I prefer at all. 3D Land was a very fun game, but it's not "this is the best thing I've ever played!" like Galaxy and 64 were.

Mario's jumping ability was also much worse in 3D Land in comparison to Mario 64 or Galaxy. Hell, I thought the Mario in Mario Galaxy was already too slow and not nearly as fun to control as in 64..so I'm really frustrated that it'll probably be even worse in 3D World even if I find the game fun.

My frustrations, if any at all, have more to do with this stuff than camera and level design changes. I don't care about those changes and have full faith in the developers with that kind of stuff. I'm not excited that the 3D Land mechanics may be becoming a consistent thing.

I'm just gonna come out and say it...I've got wood. The official seal of Nintendo quality kind of wood given generously to me via Anihawk. Am I gay?

I daresay that's my point.

(I'm on your side)

His point is that Pokemon makes more money than most AAA franchises and its more than likely correct when you factor in the budget and the fact that it sells so well without sales. You really don't need to factor in merchandising because that would just be crazy.

Here's stuff they could show, off the top of my head, based on what they've spoken about/announced (sure they said 'this year', but they always show other stuff):

-White Premium Model for the West
-Firmware update for Wii U
-Miiverse for 3DS in October
-TW101 trailer, announcement of the ND
-Pokemon XY trailer, official reveal of Orotto/other new Pokemon, new features
-Art Academy U app information
-Wii Fit U trailer, release month/date
-Wii Party U trailer, release month/date
-Pikmin 3 DLC details, release time-frame
-Donkey Kong Returns Tropical Freeze trailer, 4th character, release date
-Super Mario 3D World trailer, info, release date
-A Link Between Worlds trailer, release date
-Wind Waker HD trailer, Western release date
-Mario Party 3DS trailer, release date
-Bravely Default trailer, release date (EU)
-3rd party/indie information (Sonic Lost World/Winter Games trailer?)
-Pushmo/Sakura Samurai/Freaky Forms sequel (for Wii U?), or other eshop games
-Flip Note Studio 3DS for the West
-Soliti Horse (Game Freak) for the West
-Daigasso Band Brothers for Japan, trailer, release
-Chibi Robo 3DS for the West
-SMTIV for Europe
-Senran Kagura info/trailer in the West
-Tomodachi Collection (Mii Life???) announced for the West
-Steel Diver F2P (for Wii U?)
-Update(s) on (some) 2014 titles (Bayonetta 2, MK8, Yarn Yoshi, SMT X FE, Yoshi's New Island, X, Mario Golf, Smash Bros.)
-Miyamoto's new IP
-Tease(logo, title)/trailer for new Zelda
-Announcements for Wii U/3DS 2014 sequels (Kirby, Wii Sports U, Metroid, etc)
-Eshop purchases online
-Seaman announcement

Obviously, I don't think everything listed will happen this ND, but they could do any of it based on what has come, could come (and for most of it, realistically, it could), and what Miyamoto/Iwata have been speaking about lately.

Yes I know, I was going for the kill in the argument. Even the most prime example of unmitigated AAA success barely touches an average mainline Pokemon entry when you look at sales alone, and is demolished when you look at the whole picture.

You think it will be there zelda game? or somthing different?

maybe metroid?

As for visuals it does not have to be as good as X1/PS4 visuals, just as good as the tech demo

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u_fyOkrteqM

it might not look as good as this

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B-PYegtMgJ8

but after the initial oh and arghh's of the next gen smoke, lighting, particles + polycount, I dont think it will effect the enjoyment of the game.

having a smooth framerate and no jaggies is the most important.

but thats not saying graphics arent important.

man my mind goes all inception when I think about graphics to much lol
