Nintendo Downloads - August 2013

I guess it's probably safe to assume DuckTales won't be up until noon EDT Tuesday? IIRC only first party titles have gotten the midnight digital treatment so far.

Did the NSMB2 DLC turn out to be worth it?
How many additional courses were there?

It's nice to see sales on DLC, I bought all of the Art Academy stuff last week and will jump on some Fire Emblem if it's ever reduced. Not sure about Mario though.....

Apparently the Commodore64 library has been completely delisted on the Wii VC?

Looks like that, at least on the Wii U -- I'll check on the Wii side and make sure, then I'll update the spreadsheet accordingly.

Edit: Yep, all the C64 titles have been completely removed from the Wii Virtual Console -- although nothing else has been removed recently. All the other system pages match the totals in the spreadsheet. I'll see if I can browse through the WiiWare section to see if anything else is missing, though.

Anyone know the current status of the last company to own the Commodore name?

I sure am glad they offered (surprisingly) a demo of the new M&L RPG. Man, talk about "more of the same." Yeah, it's feeling pretty formulaic at this point. Not really in that frame of mind right now.

OMG this M&L shit is just more of the same, AS USUAL, change it up a bit geez, they're so lazy. F**king Nintendo.

Yeah, I think maybe you're blowing what I said a little out of proportion. I'm sure it's a rock-solid game. I'm just not particularly up for more of the "same old, same old" right now. I am truly grateful there was a demo, as I was considering buying it now that I've exhausted SMTIV. I'm glad I tried it first, otherwise I know it would have simply sat on my shelf collecting dust.

Is the Mario and Luigi demo up in Europe...though I should probably stay away as I'm working on Mario and Luigi 2 ATM...

Nice to see EO4 demo this week (though I did not really gel with EO1, it took far too long to do anything but maybe I was playing it a bit safe).

Sudoku by Nikoli - €4.99 (£4.49)
.
I wonder if the rest of these will follow. I am sort of interested in some of them (e.g. Slitherlink) even though I hear they are fairly shoddy.

I really enjoyed the Mario 1/3 stages and the Nerve Wrack pack. I would have enjoyed it more if they'd bothered with online leaderboards though.

You know, Pokemon Conquest is actually an okay tutorial for Romance of the Three Kingdoms. It works pretty similar, but ROT3K gives you a lot more to do outside of battle and actually makes maintaining your army important.

The one thing Conquest has that's really lacking in ROT3K is the direction; there should be a mode that just slaps you in a game without having to know Liu Bei from Cao Cao.

By the way, why did the Mega Man games stop coming to the Wii U VC? Shouldn't 5 and 6 be out by now?

Stop coming? I think you're thinking way too hard on that one. We only got MM1 and MMX (lol Europe) early on, and then got MM2-4 as a surprise on E3. Capcom still has games on the way too for VC (both eShops). So I think, while slow, certainly hasn't stopped.

Hm, I guess I remembered it wrong. But it's still kind of silly for 5 and 6 to be missing when they had the rest already. Who is responsible for release dates on VC, the original publisher or Nintendo?

I think it's a joint decision but Nintendo ultimately has the final say.

Question: Are there any 'download in the background' options for the 3DS? Or resume options?

I was downloading DKC:R3D this morning and I was shocked at how long it took. What procedure do ya'll following when downloading games to your 3DS'

At one point I shut my 3DS and when I reopened it the download had canceled and I had to restart it from the beginning. Was this just an isolated error? I haven't downloaded too many retail games but I had thought you could at least continue downloading with the lid shut.

Yes, when you start the download you can choose "Download Now" or "Download Later". If you choose "Download Later" it downloads while your 3DS is in sleep mode.

No to both. The only thing you can do is download immediately or download later which will download when it's in sleep mode.
Can you explain how downloading in sleep mode works?

By 'sleep mode' do you just mean the 3DS is closed? Do I need to be on the home screen or does it initiate if I close the lid while playing a game? Does it resume automatically if I open the lid and then shut it again?

Sorry for the barrage of questions.

Just close the lid and it'll do the rest. It will also download if you're on the home screen as well.

1) Buy on Wii to play on Wii U in Wii mode.
2) Pay another $1.50 to upgrade to full version when it comes out on Wii U (or not).

As a lover of RPG's, are there any other 3DS games that I should be aware of, other than Bravely Default: Flying Fairy, Monster Hunter 4, Etrian Odessy IV
and Pokemon X/Y
? I was browsing my 3DS and it hit me how few games I have on my radar for it, and how few games I've bought for it (4). :/

I've never really been a nintendo player, so I have no idea what is out there, and the best-seller lists have titles such as "Cooking Mama" or something.. so yeah.. nope..

And Zelda games seems a bit silly, so I'm not interested in those.

There's three SMT games on the 3DS

Here's a (I think) comprehensive list of RPGs available in the US for 3DS:

Crimson Shroud (eShop only)
Denpa Men (eShop only)
Denpa Men 2 (eShop only)
Etrian Odyssey IV
Fire Emblem Awakening
Mario & Luigi: Dream Team
Project X Zone
Shin Megami Tensei IV
Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers
Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor Overclocked
Tales of the Abyss
Unchained Blades (eShop only)

Upcoming:
Bravely Default: Flying Fairy
Etrian Odyssey Untold: The Millennium Girl
Pokémon X/Y
Rune Factory 4

I just realized.

Cave Story+ still isn't out in Yurop :lol

Yes, Nicalis are fucking morons when it comes to Europe. It terrifies me that they're handling the Binding of Isaac remake, because if by some small miracle Nintendo say yes to it on 3DS, it'll take another small miracle for it ever get bloody localised.

Giana Sisters: Twisted Dream has been available on PSN and Xbox Live Arcade for a few months now and almost a year on PC. Black Forest Games gave the Wii U version a tentative release date of August and it has stayed true to its word, confirming the sisters will be in the European and Australian eShop on 22nd August.

This new game started out as a Kickstarter project where it comfortably snapped up over $150,000. The series dates back to 1987 when The Great Giana Sisters was released on multiple platforms and the latest iteration appeared on the DS in 2009, with the aptly named Giana Sisters DS.

Giana Sisters: Twisted Dream will feature a new easy mode on Wii U alongside the Hardcore and Uberhardercore modes and it will support off-TV play for those who want to experience it all on the GamePad.

Unfortunately, there's been no confirmation of a release date in North America but it surely can't be too far away now.

I'm a 3DS Ambassador so I already have some GBA games, but I'd easily pay $20 for Golden Sun. WHERE IS IT

In GBA heaven. There are no GBA games on 3DS. The ambassador games aren't emulated which is why they don't have any VC features since they run on the legacy DS hardware or something. Don't bet on GBA VC for 3DS.

Where is ALttp for Wii U!? Oracles made me want more 2D Zelda magic...

Shouldn't that be obvious? Remember that there's a certain game coming out on 3DS later this year that is somewhat related to ALttP? Wouldn't it be the wildest coincidence if ALttP came out ...I don't know ...right around the time of that game's release? :)

I just realized.

Cave Story+ still isn't out in Yurop :lol

I regularly bug Nicalis on Twitter about it. Never get a response anymore.

NA is getting the Giana shaft again? Only this time I am on the right side of the pond.

Apropos, if somebody is not playing SteamWorld Dig, you're wasting some fine metroidvania playtime.
