Sony's Gamescom Media Briefing On "Release Plans for PlayStation 4"

Every now and then I check the timer to see how many days and hours are left to the event and it doesn't 'seem' to get any closer! I swear reading this thread is detrimental to my perception.

I doubt that has a big impact anyway tbh
Considering Square is seriously concerned about their financial position at the moment MS probably didn't even need to pay them to make it multi platform.

Pretty sure there would have been some cash as versus was originally a ps3 exclusive, so I assume SE would have had to buy themselves out of that deal, which I'm sure Microsoft would have dished up.

I'm going in with my hype meter half-filled.
Only to be ridiculously filled up right before the show.

Ok the western exclusive has me intrigued for sure. Other than a new IP, which is unpredictable, I'm trying to think of what it could be. Next gen GTA 5 port?

This is what I thought of as well, especially with the post about a next-gen version of GTAV. Maybe a PS4 next-gen exclusive?

Securing FF XV and KH 3 from being PS4 exclusives was probably enough this time around

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if both end up being timed exclusive in Japan on PS4.

Then again, I wouldn't be surprised if Sony would have preferred to focus on beefing up their Japanese first party output instead of paying S-E for exclusivity. After all, it's not as if the FF games were strong sellers on Xbox compared to on PS.

I'd agree with you if it was just FF XV but KH as well without even bringing people up to date with the collection ?

It doesn't really matter without the collections anyway, honestly I doubt the KH market expands that much by releasing it on Xbox, you may get some little kids in due to the Disney aspect but they are not going to care about the story that much and they otherwise mightve played the ones on a DS/3DS/PSP. The people buying Xbox for COD wont give a crap. And you'll have some people who had PS2s owning Xboxs so its not that big a deal.

Hey, why don't do just have good time in these threads?

Half the time they are better than the actual event.

Hype meter for me is super low for this event. It looks like Sony is trying to stick to elaborating on the launch PS4/PSN games.

I'm more interested in what CBOAT has next week.

I mean all the software will kick ass, but it looked too early. Pop ups everywhere, 35% build, pre alpha software....all that kills excitement. Denis Dayack said e3 builds were a waste and he was right. Never again
Sony's studios probably focused on the Feb reveals and so working hard to polish up another impressive build at E3, especially such a short time before final dev kits went out, would be a waste of resources. Tretton said they didn't hammer in the graphical superiority of the PS4 at E3 since they didn't have to, I think the near final builds running on (probably) final hardware at GC will impress a lot more.

I think the player base of those games consists largely of Playstation gamers, due to platform history/association. Same with Metal Gear Solid.

Yep. In the end - especially when we're looking at Japan - it doesn't matter.

Also this.

Don't forget the 1st party AAA stealth game :P About the major western 3rd party exclusive: Some including SolidSnakex and me have been speculating it might be Agent resurfacing. Basically Rockstar still owes Sony one exclusive (as far as we know at least), so it could be that. We think it might have been put on hold, because Sony wants Rockstar North working on it, but they were already busy with GTA V. So I think it could come back soon. Otherwise I can only see GTA V next gen exclusivity, but unlikely I think.

And besides Rockstar I can only see Ubisoft as a potential partner.

Like GG supposedly working on a WRPG, I'll believe Sony is working on a TRUE (key word) stealth AAA game when I see it. That means not something like Hitman Absolution/Thief 2014/Splinter Cell Blacklist, a hybrid action/stealth game. If it's not that then I'll get excited.

Agent could work but I refuse to admit that game exists until it does. It's been so long. I threw GTA 5 out there but if it came down to money only then I can't see how Sony out-spent MS and secured it. Maybe if Rockstar used it as their "gift" to Sony, that way they wouldn't have to develop an entire new game like Agent, but it would still be a massive game for Sony. So many people want a next gen version of GTA 5.

So is the $200 vita and PS3 tomorrow happening? Still haven't saw a flyer or online positing go live for less than 12 hours seems weird.

Insiders have said the Vita is getting a price drop so yea probably, PS3 seems likely.
I would hope for 179.99 and memory card price reductions :/ I would buy a second at that point so me and my brother could each have our own.

we'll never know for sure, but i 've been saying ever since that E3 betrayal when FFXIII went to the x360 that FFvsxiii was not going to be exclusive.

For years the excuses, from Nomura being a Sony fanboy, to VS only possible on PS3, was finally laid to rest this past E3.

Gah, there was so much crow eaten that day

I like your thinking on the GTA5, I originally assumed it would be too expensive and we'd be getting Agent or maybe a RDR. But if Sony were to write off Agent and invest a little extra cash then I could definitely see GTA 5 PS4-next-gen-exclusive.

I can't remember the last time we went from one Gen to another and there were such good chances of having re-releases of titles like TLoU, GT6 and GTA.

As for Sony's Partner, Bethesda? They came on Sony E3 Stage? And Pete Hines has been talking about ps4 (liking it)

Just a guess and a wish from me

How I see it;

From a Square Enix angle: polished and well received exclusives can pay off. the console owners feel that these games are custom made for them. Nintendo commented on the matter as well. In the end you have guaranteed but low sales for an Xbox against unknown hypothetical additional sales for the PS4 were these games exclusive to the PS console.

From a MS angle: they will not get many sales but they keep Sony from having a high profile advantage and these are some of the extremely few Japanese big productions left. It helps the image of the console.

I could give a rats ass about Bethesda and their games but haven't there been rumours that the next fallout is a timed xbox exclusive? Not sure who started that one.

From a Square angle by including the games on Xbox you make available your biggest titles on the console that outsold Playstation by a crazy amount in a huge video game market. Thats how they probably see it.

No rumors, just speculation but Bethesda's partnership with Sony probably laid that to rest.

Yeah but that was the PS3 is doomed era. Still sales were not that big on the then dominant xbox.

Based on what people are saying most people will buy a PS4 for FFXV anyway so really, Sony can spend the money on their own JRPG which is said to be in the works.

Although I have never owned a SONY console, I am very excited and happy about the PS4 (in particular Santa Monica and Naughty Dog's new games). Will we hear of them anytime soon or would that be next E3?

Yeah I think it's guaranteed to get GTA 5 regardless of whether it's exclusive or not but if Rockstar still "owes" Sony something then that would be the best answer for both parties. Rockstar probably doesn't want to be hampered with making an entire new game from scratch that they may or may not want to make, and with GTA 5 they could have another one of their studios port it over or even port it over themselves with minimal effort since PS4 is similar to a PC and easy to develop for while they move ahead with whatever they're going to do next.

Sony obviously benefits by securing the biggest game of the past few years exclusively without spending their entire fortune away, and it's a safer bet financially than a new IP that could bomb.

Don't fall for it you guys.

It's a trap.gif

Or that partnership was a concession for agreeing to give Microsoft the timed exclusive
;p

To me it felt like, them trying to make to Sony for Skyrim fiasco, but who knows.

We are saying the same thing. That's were I am basing my hypothesis on. If Square are pretty much going to see low sales from the Xbox One, they could have might as well risked a PS4 exclusivity.

I stand with Nintendo on this one. Some games can be more lucrative as exclusives in the long ran.

Their new CEO pretty much only cares about the bottom line and not actual strategy between the first party companies.

Can someone enlighten me why Rockstar is supposed to "owe" Sony something? I probably missed that.

Rockstar signed a deal with sony to bring a game called Agent to PS3 exclusively, there was most likely payment for this deal from sony to rockstar. Agent never released on PS3 and so Rockstar likely haven't fulfilled the assumed contract between them and Sony.

Theres a chance there was no contract and rockstar was just using Agent to test the Cell and SPU's or something and didn't want to bring it to xbox, but it is most likely Sony made a specific deal with them which rockstar haven't fulfilled.

EDIT: just remembered, Rockstar renewed the trademark on agent recently so it's likely that may still be coming for some console or another...

GTA IV went multiplatform and MS got exclusive DLC despite having a verbal agreement with Sony that it would be exclusive to PS3

Agent was officially signed as an exclusive for PS3 but that's vaporware and have yet to produce an exclusive game for Sony.

Well I think they used to when the whole Agent thing originally broke down since Sony helped fund it but I'm not sure if it was paid back at all. Some said there was something regarding LA Noire that paid them back but I don't know. I was just saying if Rockstar did still owe them then that port of GTA 5 would make the most sense for both parties.
