Sony's Gamescom Media Briefing On "Release Plans for PlayStation 4"

Their new CEO pretty much only cares about the bottom line and not actual strategy between the first party companies.

I don't know about that one yet but talking about bottom lines, it was Wada who rushed FF XIII at the last possible minute to the 360 fearing low PS3 sales.

I believe Metal Gear Solid 4 sales proved him wrong.

I think the player base of those games consists largely of Playstation gamers, due to platform history/association. Same with Metal Gear Solid.

Yeah, I said this during E3 when Sony fans were lamenting the lack of exclusivity on those games. The type of person who would buy a console for Kingdom Hearts or Metal Gear Solid is likely a Playstation gamer anyway. Waste of time to moneyhat those games.

So every 3rd party game that went multiplatform this gen did so because they feared Ps3 sales then?

personally i think that the reason why MGS4 stayed exclusive was because Sony paid for it. I'm thinking that Sony wanted FFXIII to stay exclusive too but SE asked for too much money.

Sony's studios probably focused on the Feb reveals and so working hard to polish up another impressive build at E3, especially such a short time before final dev kits went out, would be a waste of resources. Tretton said they didn't hammer in the graphical superiority of the PS4 at E3 since they didn't have to, I think the near final builds running on (probably) final hardware at GC will impress a lot more.
I agree. I think the tgs builds will be more impressive

Its odd that if Sony did indeed pay (moneyhat) for MGS4 exclusivity, no insiders or anybody else said anything about it over the years. Or maybe someone did say something about it but I missed it....

See I always thought that it did not go multiplatform because of that forth wall breaking disk changing blu ray joke:P

They would have to obviously remove that from all the other versions.

You are ignoring the main point of my argument. FF and KH are not every other game, they are rare, high profile titles.

IF that is true it would make you wonder why Sony didn't pay for MGS5 exclusively.

Exactly, especially when MGS 4 was such a huge success.

The MGS4 engine was such a sack of crap, I'm not sure they could have ported it if they wanted to.

The MGS 4 engine delivered.

It stayed exclusive cause the game was an embarrassment. Nonsensical story, cut scenes every two minutes, shitacular graphics that required installs, not to mention the 20 fps frame rate. The game was poop

Sony probably cut all contacts with Kojima San after the execs (Yoshida, Cerny and Andy) played MGS4.... I mean no wonder why Kojima unveiled MGSV at the MS conference

Nice try but you are not stealing zero cognitive reasoning abilities from me.

I think Kojima recently said it was because of disc space.

That was Otakon.

Why wouldn't MGS5 be multiplatform, its a very different beast then FF or KH. I think its "Westernish" enough and its obvious they are pushing it to the Xbox crowd by showing it off at E3.

Because they never delivered on this.

Edit: It is still listed as coming to PS3 on R*'s site...whatever that means.

The Last Remnant is still listed as coming to ps3 on its site

all it means is they forget about these sites and never update them if they arent in hype cycle

They tried that with Rising and it still sold better on PS3. Co-marketing deals seem like a waste of time for established IPs or at least it feels that way.

Overall a game will sell more multiplatform, but yea theres the cost of the second version to consider. Ultimately I'd assume they're running projections based on different scenarios and they've decided its worth the risk to try. It doesn't matter if it sells less on Xbox as long as it increases the overall profit from the title.

In addition it may be worth it to build that brand association on a second console! Perhaps they're betting on Xbox sales to catch up with the Playstation equivalent eventually, its not a bad investment.

I...I haven't checked this in a while...

Why are we all arguing about Gen 7 console exclusivity?

Not trying to be shitty, I'll read through the old stuff too, I'm just a little lost right now.

I think the conversation started with FF15 and KH3 being multiplatform and it sorta led to this big discussion, its not like we have much else to talk about atm :p

Hahahaha, true, true. The insider wells have all dried.

I'm certainly not judging the conversation, just wondering how we got there. Hahaha

What is this partnership Robo and others are mentioning between sony and betashed? What exactly does it entail?

Haha, Betashed

Well at E3 they did announce a partnership. I don't know if it just entails the Elder Scrolls Online Beta or if it's something beyond that a la the DLC exclusivity Microsoft had with them. Any more hints as to what it could be from those in the know would be nice. :)

Speculation based on the Elder Scrolls mmo beta
And Sony buying Housemarque, who would really care?.... Why would they announce it their conference :/

Wait. How do you know Sony bought Housemarque? Are they announcing it at GamesCom?

Not an insider, haha, sorry. Just a theory. I believe it was Mort that said something like, "Housemarque will bring Stardust and there is also good news." I've thought for a while that the "good news" will be that Housemarque joined WWS.

No idea. As an addendum to push the idea that Sony has a powerful and growing stable of first party developers? Don't know :/ I wouldn't normally expect something like that but multiple comments have been made about Housemarque having some other "good news" that is not a game announcement.
