Sony Gamescom Press Conference Thread: Let Us Dream

I don't get people, really. They just announced that SSD spiritual successor, Rime, Helldivers, that game with Rapture in the title, Shadow of the Beast and a bunch of indie game...and yet here we are discarding all of those and lamenting the absence of new software announcements...
WTF!

They were discarded because the impressions was very bleak and those games hardly rocked the world.

Highly doubtful. That's the reason why I rant against indie games so much, because they're a poor substitute. Maybe if they can get out of this experimental game/1994 arcade stage and make some deeper stuff then I would embrace them more.

And it doesn't have to be from one of those few mega studios. Anything that looks like it was worked on for more than a few months with more than a couple thousand dollars invested in it would be enough to get the ball rolling.

Dude, you rant against AAA games too! You'll never be satisfied, and this conference wasn't going to be your saviour.

Like a logo, a title, a CG trailer, or even a real-time cutscene? What would be the point, really? We know all of the WWS teams are working on PS4. That's a sufficient tease for me...

While it all comes down to the individual, Im sure if they did something similar to The Order: 1866 with a new game, you would still be satisfied and so would a large number of people saying that the conference was underwhelming/ok/good, enough so that they may have more positive feelings about the conference.

Sure they announced games, but the love affair with indies (who are a great source of diversity and we saw that represented) is getting somewhat tedious to some. So to answer your point about what would be the point? A broader range of people would be much more satisfied if they had teased an AAA game from their WWS over the mixed opinions that have already been displayed in this very thread.

I didn't HATE the conference but I was tuned in for more than they showed. My fault (and a few on the internet who hyped it) for assuming it was going to be better. As it was it was cool. I wish the release date was in October, but hell I wish the release date was in August so that's not saying much.

I didn't like the MS jab because he didn't deliver it like the cold-blooded diss that it was. Perfect opportunity to go in and he's just saying it like he's awkwardly trying to order a fish plate from a corner store. Damn, say it with your chest lil nigga!
nah..that would have been too distasteful imo...MS is already looking pretty silly as it is and will have problems with anti-consumer banter/trends dirtying there brand. For sony to jump on them aggressively would seem desperate.

Sony announced ton of games to be honest. people who are complaining are waiting for ND and SSM big titles which we know are coming.

Great show.

PSV+ PS3 price cuts
Twitch support
PS4 user interface
Rime
Shadow of the beast
War Thunder
PS4 release date

and more tons of other games
add in Minecraft for Vita and some really interesting titles like Fez (which i never got to play) and hotline Miami 2 and Thomas Was Alone creator's next game. It was a great show, just not your usual hype fest over a 3-4 year developed AAA title.

So did anyone catch that "while others have shifted their message and changed their story we were consistent," in the Sony conference. I don't know, I thought it was kinda childish myself.

I know it's not much but that just felt strange to hear while watching.
I find this hypocritical at best, and downright stupid at worse. Gaming forums are some of the rudest/sarcastic/disrespectful social conversations I've been a part of. And here I see comments claiming Sony's one sentence jab was childish or distasteful? Really? Sony would be silly not to claim they came up with policies they thought were fair and stuck to them. Why WOULDN'T they want to establish that fact to there customers before a launch?

Man...not GAF in particular, but ppl need to get off the high horse sometime. Everyone in that position would want to say something if your rival starts doing everything your doing cuz it likes like your product is in the winning camp.

Easily one of the best conferences any of the big three have ever had. That was fantastically paced and filled with announcements. I had a big grin on my face the whole time and it was nice seeing them not really slow down.

Really well done, Sony.

I thought it was pretty good, there was something for almost everyone and there's still TGS and I'm crossing my fingers for a Naughty Dog reveal at the VGA's. They have to sell the console and the games with what's available now and will be soon. The only way most will call a conference mega amazing is if a new super exclusive new GTA is announced and that not gonna happen. I do think their E3 conference was excellent.

Really bad conference. It was basically a bunch of announcement that where minor enough to no even warrant a press conference.

Vita stuff is specially annoying since they just confirmed that roughly only 10% of the games on the system are made from the ground up and what do they do? Announce a bunch of ports.

I liked the new Vita Price.

Dude, you rant against AAA games too! You'll never be satisfied, and this conference wasn't going to be your saviour.

and as I said the other day even the worst AAA game that I crush usually has more depth and point to them than every indie game I've played*

*with the exception of Terraria. That's the sole indie game I liked and put over 60 hours into it so far.

Why in the world should Sony show games that will detract from the games they are trying to sell in three months and/or get slaughtered by aaa shooter hype?

I genuinely don't understand this. Do you think Sony will have plenty of games from their jest party studios over the next five years? Do you think them choosing to show you what they are has an impact on where they are in development?

When you are showing off your brand spanking new powerful hardware with 2D indie games that are also on older hardware, and AAA games that will also be on the PS3 and 360 just in a lower resolution and probably lower framerate, then that causes me to lose excitement in next generation. Show me what the machine is capable of.

400 dollars is a pretty big investment for a lot of people, so I feel they should be showing more quality titles we can look forward to.

Don't buy the system until you see something you like. What's the difference if you buy it now for full price or wait until what you want them to show you is actually out.

The difference is I like to play games, and want to play next gen games I am interested in earlier than later. I was just disappointed by the conference is all. I didn't end up getting a PS3 for a few years because of the lack of interesting games to me, so I was hoping Sony would be showing some stuff to get excited for. Are they filling the time with indie games, because they don't have much else to show? That's just what it feels like to me.

I "literally" still have a headache after the camera changing all the time while watching and trying to focus on the entire conference.

I mean I was starting to feel nauseous. I don't know WTF that was about.

I also almost fell asleep while watching.

TGS will be a 10 times better than this even if it's average.

Were people expecting Sony to announce more launch AAA titles when launch is a couple of months away? Too many whiny people.

yes, some people were saying 'wait for gamescom, we havent seen all launch day games for ps4.'

i think now we need to wait for tgs

Man in typical Sony fashion it was a boring conference. Even when Sony has great content they put out long drawn out boring conferences. And today's conference was just...wow. Indies have pretty much become a crutch for Sony on the PS4.

Side note, the main presenter takes the cake for being even more awkward then Don Mattrick on stage. Has anyone gif'd the cringeworthy waiting for the fake applause bit?

On one hand, really pleased to see Sony supporting Indie and going that route, though it makes me really concerned for Vitas future in some regards. 3DS already has a relatively healthy level of retail titles vs indie titles. Vita's primary output seems to be indie now, and whats left to come out was announced at the last time Sony bothered to really push the system last year.

I absolutely applaud giving indies their due, but it just seems a little sad that nobody will be using much of the vitas extra processing power or features. The memory card price cut is too minimal as well, people will still bulk at half those prices.Tearaway is pretty much the only real big game left unless you want the batman game, or Borderlands 2 I guess...

I dunno, maybe I'm putting too much stock on the retail model Vita launched with, and should simply accept it's now going to be an indie exclusive system?

Also not quite sold on PS4 yet, certainly less here making me excited about launch than there was for Wii U or Vita. I'ld like one, but not sure if I want to commit till a year or two in, like I did with PS3

You could argue the exact same thing for AAA titles. Really you should judge games individually on their own merits.

There is nothing to argue its just opinions.

but the reason why I dont think its the same case with AAA games is because they are doing new things and they look more fun to me, then the majority of the indie games. When i see the indie games I may have fun with them for an hour or two, but I would not buy them and would rather play some tipple AAA games.

I see it no different to if in 1996 at nintendo E3's nintendo said'' we are releasing NES classics for the N64'' ppl would be like WTF? I see it no different for releasing old 2d games on a 1.84Tflop system, the whole ''retro on your modern console'' has never made sense to me, I like to play the latest and greatest.

For you it may be the opposite to my opinion?, there is no right or wrong to this discussion.

Is this what resentful panic looks like?

Probably because none of those are interesting and not what we want from Sony.

All I wanted was 1 new big announcement from them for next year. Even just a tease.

You already got it at E3; it's called The Order

You already got it at E3; it's called Second Son

You already got it at E3; it's called You Can See My Point.

Maybe its just me but I am really sick and tired of all the Indy games and the whole hype over Indy game development...

I would much rather use my very expensive and powerful console to play full blown epic games. Indy games can stay on mobile devices... I am sure a lot of people really love the Indy games and the Indy game scene but I am not one of those people, and I truly hoped not so much attention would have gone towards it.

like 75% of this conference was geared toward the Indy gaming scene...boooring

One new Naughty Dog game would blow away 10000 new Indy games.

Just my 2c

How do you define depth? Remember, there's a difference between depth vs complexity in games. The amount of mechanics and rules would be complexity. Maybe I need to play more AAA games, because most of them are a mess in what their point is compared to the honed in focus of the indie games I've played. Hey wait, you barely even play indie games, so this is not even a fair point :P

Yesterday someone questioned why Sony would feel the need to bring the house down with gigantic reveals. They've already hit what, a million preorders? Other than a few spoiled children, not too many people are going to cancel now.
Personally I applaud Sony for taking a chance to highlight small devs. We don't know what a lot of the big in house teams are working on yet. TGS isn't that far away, and there's still plenty of time for a stand alone event if they wanted.
Relax people, We know Sony will have good games coming soon, very very soon. Enjoy your backlog now, fall is almost here.

Can't get enough of Indy games, there are barely enough of them!

That was my favorite part of the conference :). I wanna see this get "Sega Does What Nintendon't" at the primetime level, it'd be glorious xD.

Besides, these companies have bigger things worth shedding tears over, like investor reports and falling stock prices.

In some Spanish forums are telling me that The Order has been shown closed doors to a group of journalist. Has anybody heard something similar?

I wonder if I'm the only one that really liked the Knack trailer? Games looks colorful and fun.

I loved it.

Not sure how anyone can be upset with the launch lineup.

- Fantastic looking shooter - Killzone
- Great looking racing game - DriveClub
- Really fun looking action adventure game - KNACK
- Plus tons of awesome third parties - you know them

YES it could use a "HALO" or a "MARIO" or any other "OMG DID YOU SEE THAT YOU HAVE TO BUY THE CONSOLE FOR IT!!!" game but lets face it, the XB1 doesnt have that either in my opinion.

Were people expecting Sony to announce more launch AAA titles when launch is a couple of months away? Too many whiny people.

Even Microsoft announced Fable Legends and they already had a much healthy array of launch titles.

What I wanted to see was pretty simple.
Anyone of this things

1-at least one new 2014 triple AAA exclusive.
2-The Last Guardian moved to PS4
3-gameplay vid of Infamous or another none launch titles.

I got the Phrase for gamers by gamers and most powerful consoled to date and a bunch of indie titles that offered absolutely nothing new to the table, most of then not even exclusive.

So it's obvious that people where disappointed, not everyone is going to drop 400 bucks on games they can already play on PC.

Indie games are great side games, a nice bonus for PS4 buyers, but they shouldn't be the focus for PS4. The focus should be on experiences that are not possible on weaker hardware, those are the system sellers.

PS4 is gonna have a slow start with System sellers, but I'm sure plenty will come in time.

Everyone's Gone to the Rapture, Rime and Shadow of the Beast is not enough? Those are 3 PS4 exclusives.

I think this was the best Gamescom conference ever, i just rewatched it and its incredible the tons of games they announced today.

People complaining about Indie games seem to miss that the most hyped games in recent years have come from that 'sector' of gaming.

DayZ, Minecraft, FTL, Rogue Legacy, Terraria, Binding of Isaac and the list goes on and on. These games EXPLODE and are super hyped among gamers as amazing titles that wouldn't have happened with big publisher restrictions.

The best part about it is that this is the tip of the iceberg and Sony recognizes that now. We're in for a world of fantastic gaming for a low price.

For me Launch lineup is "meh" for my taste. But I know the future of PS4 is bright when it comes to my taste.

Anyway:
Killzone: I'm bored of the typical FPS
Driveclub: Look nice, but I tend to get bored of racing games.
Knack: Doesn't excite me for some reason.
Watch Dogs: Looked amazing, but as time went by it looked less and less interesting. Also the experience is available on PS3.
Indie games: Not exactly system sellers.

Launch lineup: pretty "meh", but I probably won't cancel my preorder, PS4's future is bright.

I agree. That part of the conference put a smile on my face :)

I really like how Sony does not ignore what everyone already knows, like most huge companies do (/cough MS). They said the obvious and they did it right I think.

Not rude or mean, smart and good timing.

I'm definitely not getting a PS4 at or near launch after this conference. I was hoping for one... just one game that would make the launch line-up at least stomachable, but it looks absolutely barren.

Don't really want to get an XBone either after dealing with MS' RRoD bullshit and after how quickly they abandoned the JP market but at least they have Crimson Dragon and D4. Might just wait and see how things go for a year and then pick my console ( or consoles ).

I am honestly completely baffled. At 100% of this. I just think we're never going to agree so I won't bother.

Yeah Fable Legends, Kinect sports rivals and free fifa 14 left me very impressed with MS and the X1

Wait, since when were indie games just meant for mobile? Are you aware of PC gaming?

I agree with you in a lot of ways. I think both launch lineups are really lacking that "system defining game" but the future is definitely bright...for BOTH systems.

Is there a Little Big Planet Hub thread? If not, i've got a few questions since I missed everything. Can you play all created levels from LBP 1 and 2 with the Hub download? Will all the tools from LBP1 and 2 be available via the Hub create mode?

So much emphasis on indie! So much! E3 and now Gamescom spent wooing the indie crowd. At first I thought it was cool but now I'm getting sick of it, that's not why I purchase new systems. I know Sony is holding so much back with firsty party content, how about you throw us another goddamn bone after The Order. Ugh! The conference was such a big ol bag of meh.

Second Son trailer and Rime were the only highlights for me.

In some alternate universe, the sane side of your face has to be the one in control.

Indie games and more specifically F2P is the future. PC games proved this and it's going to happen with consoles. Sony knows that the current model where big publishers push out multi million dollar triple A titles is unsustainable. Why do you think they are placing such a big bet on indies and F2P? Well in part because we already know a hybrid model of triple A, indies and F2P is much healthier for the industry in general (just look at Steam).

Is it any surprise this is where we are heading? I for one am glad .... We will see more diversity of genres and successful Indy titles will get their own shots at big budget sequels .... Hopefully in genres long ignored (space sims for example).

From a console manufacturer point of view they don't want to have the fate of the market rest in the hands of a couple massive publishers -- and neither should you. A collapse of EA or Activision in a triple A only market would be disastrous for everyone. Not to mention a couple publishers only market allows them to run bullshit like exclusive crap on one system only ....

No ... Diversity is better bring the new glorious future on I say.
