• Hey Guest. Check out your NeoGAF Wrapped 2025 results here!

GTA V has gone gold.

Well, I live in Solihull, postal service generally varies a little. Orders from Shopto usually arrive a day or more before release (I remember Hitman came about 3 or 4 days early), while Amazon orders usually arrive on release day.

Kinda torn between sticking with my current order or switching to the normal Amazon version and using the Prime free trial. But dat steelbook, man. And it's GTA V.

Yeah I know how you feel. I had the collectors edition pre ordered at ShopTo because they're generally good and if there's an issue on delivery they'll send a courier out same day to pick it up which is handy. But then Amazon dropped the CE down to £100 from £120 and I had a £20 voucher from LoveFilm so I just went with them in the end. I think the CE is out of stock now though...

I think you'll probably be fine with Game. Plus I'd imagine GTA is a pretty big deal so they wouldn't want to screw up deliveries on that.

I know I'm probably the only one but I prefer "So, A white guy, a black guy and a crazy guy walk into a bank..."

I know that R* has said that the difference between the PS3 and 360 versions will be negligible at best but I still wish we had some idea what to expect. Right now I have 2 seperate pre-orders. I placed one for the 360 LE a couple of months back and just recently put a second one down for the regular PS3 version just in case.

Same. Got both preordered. I'm leaning towards the ps3 version because of the extra audio with elite headset and free online which I many not even use. But if the performance discrepancy is the same as GTA IV (720p vs sub 720p, higher framerate on 360, etc) I may get the 360 version.

Well yeah, I assume we're talking about when the game finally "lets go" of you, which by modern gaming standard should be about 2 hours in. That's why I've been hoping since the beginning that the game cold opens in the middle of a heist and teaches you on the move.

The tagline for the OT is gonna be "After five years on the east coast, it was time to go home" .....right? :p

or maybe "Daddies back, bitches"....that's a good one too.

Just spell it correctly or it'll bug people: "Daddy's back, bitches"

I like "After five years on the east coast, it was time to go home".

Ugh, I'm trying to get rid of my 360 altogether because I only use it for media services, but I'm hesitant due to possible PS3 tech issues. I mean all the media so far has been shown running off of PS3 tech so it looks amazing and not degraded in anyway.

Max Payne 3 was done with the same engine as GTA IV & RDR but it has a 1280x720p resolution. The game was equal on PS3 and 360. There's no reason it'll be different with GTA V.

I wonder what it exactly this special audio mode with the pulse elite.

btw I had some audio problems with the cutscenes in RDR and some other games (but not MP3). The voices were hard to hear, even when I tried to modify the settings of my headset (Tritton Ax Pro+) with the remote (front/rear/center/sub). I hope I won't have any problem with that...

I first pre-ordered back in April of last year off Amazon and then pre-ordered the SE at the end of July. Decided that if I were to get the normal edition I might as well spend $10 in sales tax and gas to pick it up at midnight and was going to do that until I got Amazon to transfer my free shipping (had Prime when I made my original order and it ran out last April) and they updated the SE for Release Date Delivery. Plus I got another $5 off from a "coupon" offered until last week. So basically I'm only paying $5 more for the SE than I would have for the regular edition, just means I'll go to bed at a reasonable hour and have to wait until between 11AM and 1PM (usual UPS/FedEx delivery time here) for my copy to arrive.

The PS3 and XB360 versions are going to be a lot closer than GTA IV or RDR were. I imagine there might be some trade offs like Max Payne 3 but probably a little closer than MP3 as well.

GTA5 being open world means it can't be compared at all to what MP3 was doing. Hopefully they're on par though.

Well Max Payne 3 is highly linear, and still had some PS3 cutbacks.

So this game is supposed to have shooting like Max Payne right? That shooting was sooo good. Hopefully he does the whole hold his long gun with his left hand thing. So good

Damn I'm gonna go play that again.

Yes I know. But still, I think it will be native 720p on PS3.

Maybe I'm wrong, and if the 360 is way better than the PS3 one, I'll take the game on 360 too or replace the PS3 game, despite the free PSN and the better pad (imho).

I really don't see the PS3 version being any worse than the 360 version. It's been five years since GTA IV, and Rockstar has more experience with the PS3 now. They've also only shown the PS3 version in footage so far and they've said that both versions are nearly identical.

I really want to play this on my PS3 this September, but I just know that by the end of the year, a PS4 version will be announced.

What to do?!

Not too sure why so many people think this. It took six years for GTA3 / VC / SA to come to the PS3, so why would they put GTA5 on the PS4 so soon?

Not sure why no one responded to this. I am like 90% sure the shooting will be more like MP3 and RDR , not like GTA IV. They talked about refining the shooting / walking / cover mechanics I believe. I hope so at least.

It's very similar to mp3 and has been detailed in a number of blog posts and videos. There are three shooting mechanics that you can switch between. Few other enhancements that I can't type oi on my phone

I really hope so. Only thing that brought down the experience for me in GTA games was the shooting. RDR improved on it, and Max Payne 3 damn near perfected it. If they don't bring the changes into GTA 5, that'll be very strange

Thanks, if someone could find some of those, I'd love to read about it

Not sure if that website is spot on or not but I Google GTA 5 shooting mechanics

It's talked about in the gameplay trailer

I'm on my shitty phone, someone should post the GTA V vs Max Payne 3 shooting comparison video on youtube here.

It shows that GTAV uses the exact same system as MP3.

So great to hear. GTA always got stale eventually because it wasn't fun to shoot guys. GTA 5 is going to never end...

Grand Theft Auto V Q&A: Gun Combat

I finished Max Payne 3 for the third time last week...the gunplay is just perfect (especially since I bought new triggers for my dualshock)

I'll miss the shoothodge and the real bulletime, but, the gun gameplay is close between GTA and MP.

Yeah that's the one, thanks.

Well Michael has his own version of bullet time. When he activates it the screen turns blue-ish.

Edit: It's confirmed that we can upgrade abilities, maybe we can shoothodge later on :)

Grand Theft Auto V |OT| That thing, that magic.

I put my name down for creating a GTA Online |OT|, as I think that it would be better off separated. Especially seeing as the launches are separate.

So, if people decide they even want that thread, I've been thinking about what to name the |OT|. That thing, that magic was a sugestion I had to GTA V, and it doesn't really work for GTA Online. Well, it doesn't really work in general, because GTA V isn't a game about magic. We could probably use the second best OT title on that thread.

Perhaps Grand Theft Auto Online |OT| Fittin' to hit the block, see what's happening.
