Maybe the gathering/crafting exp buffs. The others, the stat boost ones, are really not that important until you have several high level crafters looking to HQ difficult recipes (and by this I mean, crafters with maxed out gear, since hitting the "required" stats for "difficult" recipes is really easy). Craftsmanship stat, for example, 5 points only matters if you are near a step plateau for that synth. If you're not, then adding 5, 10, even 15 points won't help because you will still need the same number of steps to complete the recipe until you hit whatever the plateau is that lets you get enough progress on one step. Same on the gathering buffs, they really are insignificant.

Yeah, I was referencing those since some (mining) can take a particularly long amount of time to level up. I'm not aware of all the buffs available, but it seems like the one that could be the most useful to the most people.

Our tank in Halatali starts to have connection issues during the last boss. His character kept skipping around too - anyone else have this happen before?

I have this problem since yesterday, actually. Thought it might be my connection since my current setup is less than ideal, but it worked great Saturday and Sunday...

Four days, haven't been able to play. I'm jamming 0 at noon on a Tuesday, can't get in.

We're a week out from launch. More than that from early access. This is inexcusable.

Is the buff to level up another class that is lower than your top class always just 50%? That's all I ever see, the in game help makes it sound like it's supposed to change depending on how far apart you are... but in game it seems to stay as a 50% bonus.

Nothing wrong with the system. Sellers are the one forcing stacks on you, not SE. Sellers just need to cater to the buyers. The way it is now creates a very engaging market metagame where the rich cannot quickly buy out everyone and resell in bulk to get richer.

Disagree 100% no one wants to sit there and put one thing on at a time its beyond stupid. Not only that it prevents people who don't have alot from purchasing much when stuff is at such high levels. This game isn't exactly generous financially. The people in this game who are rich can afford anything and they certainly aren't gonna struggle to make money or buy mats your just punishing lower end players.

Same for me. Saturday, Sunday, played for hours, no issues. Yesterday morning, I cycled through 90000 -> 3102 -> 1017 errors half a dozen times before giving up entirely. This morning I got in again but got hit with another 90000 error and I could tell I was close to disconnecting a few other times. I gave up after about 30 minutes.

I am really hoping that was only a temporary thing that will go away with the full maintenance.

Well fuck. Got my usb ports working so I can use a mouse on the laptop (that can run it on high apparently) and theyve taken the PC copys away from online retailers.

Wanted to be able to play it tomorrow as Im off work, the PS3 version might make it but then its not my idea platform. Laaameeee

Hunt for a physical copy of the game? You might be able to find one in some copies in a place like Wal-Mart and Target if there aren't any at Gamestop/Best Buy.

I tried earlier today, My local town only has a GAME and they have no copys on PC and wanted £45 for the ps3 version (lololololol).

I see. In my case I only got disconnected once (this morning) but I skip for 5-10 seconds pretty much every minute or so. Since I'm still at level 15 main story (doing lots of stuff on the side) it's "just" a major pain in the ass, but I simply won't be able to so any serious instance if this keeps happening...

So is crafted gear really worth it in this game or is it going to be worthless as it has been in most MMOs of late? Best stuff still is lootable?

Regarding Guild cliques: They happen bruh, it's cool

haven't been able to get past the login screen but I'm always down to help folks out as I am only level 33 myself. One of the reasons I leveled a class in each segment: tank, dps, healer so I can pretty much fill in the gap needed in a guild group.

Still if I am doing something I can't really drop everything.

edit: and with that the gate opens.

Finally get in, play 20 minutes. Roommate decides to reset the modem because his torrents are slow.

Now I get to play the 1017 game again.

no one wants to sit there and put one thing on at a time its beyond stupid.

You either are using some extremely silly hyperbole or you simply haven't been using the markets (or the server you're on is very different from mine) because this is absolutely false. I've seen singles and small stacks of all kinds of things on the markets. You know why? Because they sell and people who pay attention are catching on. I've made 6 million gil in a week by selling things one at a time or in small stacks.

The people in this game who are rich can afford anything and they certainly aren't gonna struggle to make money or buy mats your just punishing lower end players.

And the people who want to get rich or stay rich need to think like the average buyer (who doesn't want to buy 31 materia or 99 mudstones or 50 pieces of felt all at once) and sell things in more useful and affordable quantities.

No one should really be expected to do that at all. Just help out when you can and pay it forward if some guildies help you out with something. At least, that's what I try to do, even if I can be a lone wolf sometimes.

Just wondering how I lock on follow a target like this cause I seem to do this at the worse time(like when I'm escaping a AoE)

Using gamepad or kbm? On gamepad I think lock-on defaults to like L3 or R3 or something. There's also a setting to auto-lock onto any mob you attack (may or may not be valid in both control schemes), but I haven't figured out how to lock onto a mob using kbm WITHOUT using auto-lock (which I have turned off because I can't figure out how to disenage lock on kbm when I need to move my attention to another mob) which is sometimes annoying if I'm just soloing quests and would prefer to be able to arbitrarily lock a lone mob. I find lock-on fairly useless (as a tank) and downright dangerous, as I said, in dungeons so far though.

The books are a useful way to spend seals, but their importance is so overstated. Even fate grinding to 50 and ranking up to max. You could afford maybe 20 books, thats only 800k exp. or basically 48.5 > 50. It's a drop in the bucket at best. I'm only level 31 miner now, but 12 leves is about 1 level worth of exp. I'm close to 100 stocked up and will prolly use them all around level 40 or 45. It takes 1-2 hours of straight mining to level in the 30s, depending if you mine the stuff for best exp vs something you need for crafting.

If on PS3 or using a controller, then clicking L3 will lock-on to target. It's pretty useful. You can rebind all this stuff in options as well.

Is GAF in Ultros still full? Couldn't find my old post in OT1 so I'll just ask here.

Is the GAF ls on Ultros full?

How do I join the Gaf guild? Send a PM to someone? I was able to login with my Ultros character.

People keep asking this. Please check the OP and the guild site at neogaf.guildwork.com. The FC is full but we are accepting members into an overflow Linkshell. As space becomes available, we will be moving members from the Linkshell over to the Free Company. The fastest way into the Free Company is to register and submit an application on the site, and then send a /tell for an invite to the Linkshell.

This past weekend we moved around 6-8 members from the Linkshell into the Free Company. As everyone's free trial period starts ending in 14-30 days and as other games begin pulling interest away from the more casual players, there will be plenty of room available. Once these server fixes are in place, we will start reviewing inactive players. Join the overflow Linkshell and hang in there.

Some people have been leaving today, it's been kinda weird.

A small group of people left to form another Free Company together with their friends. I have only seen 1 or 2 other people leaving here and there for whatever reason. Some people might just prefer a much smaller and more intimate guild experience.

There's a segment of the FC that only uses Mumble and never talks in chat, or rarely does. I dunno if you're one of those people or not, but I've only seen you talk a handful of times in text chat.

You're also mischaracterizing the conversation about FC buffs, as most people did (I was the one who brought it up). I just felt like it might be a better idea to use buffs that benefit the widest spread of people rather than the people sitting at the top. It makes the gap wider and then you have people like poor Capell asking for help with end-game stuff and few people can help, because they're just not there yet.

The amount of people jumping on you for that the other day was pretty ridiculous. It's the FC leaders' call to make but I thought it was a completely legit thing to discuss. The people making snide ass remarks in fc chat hours afterward didn't help either.

It's not a huge deal to me, a bonus is a bonus, but it makes sense when a lot of people haven't even started crafting/gathering yet or aren't to bothered with spiritbonding gear. With the FC at the numbers it is now, there are far more people to benefit from the EXP boost or reduced rates especially when we're barely a week out from launch.

It's not really fair to say that users in Mumble are ignoring users in chat when the same can be said about those in chat ignoring users in Mumble by not joining or participating. Everyone has their preference and it can be difficult to try and keep up with both when you have so many members. It's especially tough when you're focused on completing content like a dungeon. You're usually only interested in what's happening in the group. I try to engage with both as much as possible but the Free Company chat moves so fast at times that it's hard to keep up. I always offer my help and fill out any parties that I have for dungeons or whatever else by asking for people to join in the Free Company. I don't care if they have Mumble or not. There are probably several people that can attest to me helping them out with dungeons and other things throughout beta, early access, and launch.

Unfortunately, I was locked out for about 8 hours while the buff discussion was brought up. We have been running the EXP boost consistently from the moment buffs were unlocked. By percentage, the experience boost has probably been active 90% of the time or greater since early access. We decided to try and cycle some different buffs in to mix things up a bit this past weekend. Unfortunately, we can't please everyone, especially 512 people, all at different stages in the game and all with different priorities. Not everyone waits until level cap to start crafting and gathering.

The buffs are so insignificant that they will not make or break any single activity. It's just one of those things that are nice to have. The experience buff in particular is really only going to help in dungeons and 5% extra per mob killed is really a small amount. The majority of your experience will come from quests, hunting log completion, and FATE.

Strawberry and I started this weekend around level 35 and despite me being locked out for the majority of 2 days, we managed to get to level 46 and 47 without the experience boost. I wasn't there so I don't know what happened but it was communicated to me that some people were implying that all the officers were at cap and were only trying to serve their own interests. That simply isn't true at all.

We realize that the experience boost will probably benefit the majority and will continue to keep this one active the majority of the time, but there is no reason to get upset when a different buff is occasionally applied.

We've been using the reduced teleport cost buff in Red Dot since early access because there is so much back-and-forth involved with doing the story quests, what about you guys on Ultros?

Exactly. We tried it and a lot of people raged about it. Some people did appreciate it and were disappointed when it was deactivated.

It plays fine, it looks fine, controls are pretty intuitive. I didn't notice screen tearing, the frame rate is playable and is pretty stable both outdoors and in towns where there are a lot of people.

I prefer the PC version but I wanted the collectors edition and when soloing and no one is online, it's nice to just lay on the bed while playing with a controller. (that is when you can log in) Hope this helps somewhat.

It did, went ahead an bought it today. Preferred class and what server is for GAF? Can you use a usb keyboard on ps3 version?

Set Horizon as your homepoint and the overall cost will be reduced.

Mm, I've been setting Ul'Dah, since the GC and Inn is there, but I suppose Horizon is a very short distance from both Ul'Dah and Vesper Bay, so it's probably a more reasonable home point overall.

So is crafted gear really worth it in this game or is it going to be worthless as it has been in most MMOs of late? Best stuff still is lootable?

The answer isn't a simple yes or no. Overall I'd say not worth it though. If you want to see my thoughts on it overall see below:

Details:
1. If you're on a new server, you will not be gettng a Relic weapon w/o leveling up crafting + gathering to 50 unless you spend astronomical amounts of money and/or have a guild buddy who leveled crating. As time goes on this will definitely go down, but if you want a relic weapon within the next month I would just start leveling it now. The time investment to get to level 50 in a crafting / gather skill is quite high and boring as hell to most.
2. You can craft ilvl 70 gear that's better than the buyable ilvl 70 gear, but it costs WAY more to craft it. Both in terms of Tier 1 tokens, time to level crafting, and the time and money to get the absolute best crafting gear (much more difficult on new servers as well). You need god tier crafting gear, all HQ, fully materia'd out, and high end food to craft the HQ ilvl 70 gear. Even then it's not better than the buyable stuff until you slot in the materia.
3. Even with all that, I think this would all be ok, if not for one problem: You cannot craft the ilvl 90 gear equivalents, or at least not yet. This is the dealbreaker imo. Even with all the time and money involved, it would probably be "worth" it to some if you could make the ilvl 90 stuff equivalent that's slightly better like in the previous tier, but as of now you can't. This to me kills the biggest reason to.
4. I think while it's super unexciting, Culinarian and to a lesser exctent Alchemist are worth it for one reason: You're selling consumables. High end raiding will want top food if they're serious, and to a lesser extent the top potions. This will be a recurring need which the other tradeskills don't really share.
5. The repair costs for high end gear are fucking insane. Even in AF and greens at level 50 you're looking at 6k+ for a full repair. More so with high end gear. The ability to repair here is important because the ability to generate gil at max level is fucking hard. There really isn't anyway to generate a high amount of gil after you run out of quests that doesn't involve player to player transactions. Dungeon give virtually no gil, neither do killing mobs to sell their drops. Guildleves are ok at best, but you're limited to 6 a day. All this really leaves is spamming level 40 guildhests which is ok if you have a dedicated group, but boring as hell.
6. Pure speculation here. I think the way the ilvl 70 stuff works now will carry over to the ilvl 90 stuff, and the only reason it doesn't right now is they still haven't figured out how its supposed to work. They messed with material costs for ilvl 70 crafted until the end of beta, because they really don't know how much of this they want to exist and/or how. They put a lot of effort into the crafting system, and I don't think theyre going to leave it in its current state. They want crafting to be a big part of the game, while not being mandatory for people who hate it. That's a hard line to find. To be a top end crafter you really need to get cross class skills from a lot of different trades. The time investment is insane. They want these people to feel like there is a point. I assume there will be. I'm not some white knight for Square or anything like that. I just think you'd have to be insane to think they don't want or won't put the effort in to finish their crafting system.

Screw you Brayflox! I need my Cavalry Pants! The one time I don't run it the damn thing drops for GAF. Arrrg.

edit: What time do servers go down today? (and time zone).

Question about mouse targeting and lock on: If I target and lock on to an enemy and then some adds spawn, is it possible to hold that lock on while targeting another enemy and then, after clearly the new target, it just bounces back to the locked on target?

World full. How is this still happening to me on a fucking Tuesday evening?!

I suppose it doesnt help there are like 6 EU servers to the 19 NA ones and 25 JP ones. Europe is a small island thing in the middle of the ocean with no internet, isn't it?

So about this.. I've been scratching my head about ways to make more money once all the quests dried up. Battlecraft Leves seem to be pretty good and also drop green and pink gear, between quest rewards and the treasure coffers. But farming shards on my low level Botanist has so far been stupidly lucrative. They sell for 30-40g a pop and sell within minutes in stacks of 100 to people who are powerleveling their crafts.

I don't think that's fair to say at all. Voice chat requires more of a commitment than text chat, one that many people simply can't give. My situation at home keeps me from being able to participate in voice chat much, and I honestly don't want to listen to a bunch of people talk when I could be hearing the beautiful music in the game anyway. I'm sure I'm not the only person who feels that way. Voice chat is great for when you're doing dungeons and stuff, but for general communication while just playing, I find it to be far too much of an engagement. On the other hand, everyone is seeing the text chat on their screen, so it's there by default.

I mean, it's fine that everyone uses whatever they want, but it is not a surprise that the FC feels segmented (and this is what I was addressing in GraveRobber's post to begin with).

Happened to me for Phoenix as well. Just kept clicking start --> char -> play over and over until I got in

How are you locking on at all? I can't figure out how to do it with kbm without having auto lock-on enabled.

Yeah, the server breakdown really doesn't make a ton of sense. I realize that the center of the franchises popularity is in Japan, but given NA and EU's considerably larger populations, well, XIV could've been comparatively a much smaller hit than in Japan, and still needed more servers.

Europe is the most baffling of course. North America's server situation was a bit, odd, but not THAAAT far off from where you'd think it needed to be.

Says the person who has multiple classes to 50 and all else above 40. Thus, I can infer that you have had little issues playing.

Please don't tell me not to complain when you have not had the issues I have had. And their response time is poor. It's been a week. I also have little faith that this maintenance will fix anything.

Edit: Unless your legacy, in which I take back my initial comment.

Hope I can play some today, going down 7pm my time? And server issues too? Maybe I should've waited a month. lol. Oh well.

Hopefully doesn't have many patches to download.

If I've been getting 1017 since 10 in the morning, then I doubt I'll even have a chance of logging in before maintenence starts later tonight
