Japanese Music (Pop, rock and all 'dat) |OT|

Michi have released another new Single today called INdipendaNT Girl, with little help of the fashion outlet Disigual. Too bad it can be viewed if you live in Japan.

A new album is so far away :(

Well, they've been together for like 12 years but became famous thanks to Polyrhythm in 2007. Their popularity has been rising non stop since this song.
I really think they're the best pop band right now...

the chef cooks me released a new PV yesterday. The song features Gotoh Masafumi from Asian Kung-Fu Generation, Iwasaki Ai and Isobe Masafumi from Husking Bee.
And, of course, it's amazing. It definitely is a "cool" song. Like, you just sit back and relax while listening to it.

I see that the album is already on iTunes but I guess I'll wait for my copy... Can't wait! It became one of my most anticipated albums of the year in just a few days.

Anyone know what the heck this is? I'm curious as to what it sounds like

I tried to listen to Imai's album but I guess it really isn't for me.

Anyway, 1mm sounds really good. I just love what Nakata did music-wise, I guess it'll be one of the best songs of the album.
In other news, the HIATUS are still working on their next album, I sure hope they'll release it this year. If it's as good as Horse Riding, welp, it'll be fantastic (so, like everything they do :lol).

Oh and Galileo Galilei are releasing their new album in october. Man, I can't hold all these great releases... 2013 is crazy.

lol yes and fall anime. Can't wait for KLK and Kyoukai no Kanata.

What are some notable music releases inOctober for you guys?

So far :
Keytalk's major debut single.
Galileo Galilei's new album.
Czecho no Republic's major debut album.
Perfume's new album.
KANA-BOON's major debut album.
ONE OK ROCK and CreepHyp's live DVDs.
MAN WITH A MISSION's new single.

I'm sure I forgot some stuff but it's already pretty damn good. I think RADWIMPS are supposed to release a single in october.

Oh and on October 27th, I'll see ONE OK ROCK in Paris (and I'll be with my gf on top of that, so it's perfect haha). Their UK, French and German shows are all sold out (she's going to their UK and German shows, too, while I'll be stuck in college...).
I've been waiting for this concert for like 6 years, I just can't wait.

Oh man, in less then a week Noko (the singer of Shinsei Kamattechan and creator of all their songs) will release his first solo album. It's just remakes of Shinsei Kamattechan songs, which again is just studio versions of Noko's songs...it's convoluted. To add to the confusion the album is also just called Shinsei Kamattechan. Nonetheless I'm fucking hyped. The album also comes with a full uncut DVD of a recent solo concert he did.

Here's a video from said concert:

I remember the time when I listened to other bands than Shinsei Kamattechan. Those days are past me.
Just some link spam:

I still don't know what to think of Shinsei Kamattechan. :lol
I mean, some of their songs are really great but some of them... Man, weird voices and noise everywhere. I don't know...

I just hope he works on another Kimonos album.

New Album by PLASTICZOOMS
I'm anticipating tricot's and Cuushe'salbums the later of which is a late September release.

Also I do believe Mukai produced and did back up vocals for Imai's latest so maybe we can see some more Kimonos stuff in the near future

So tricot first full length album is dropping this year and I'm excite! This song from them is pretty sick

http://youtu.be/d6rxGmvQPLU

I don't think they have 1 bad song, but I'm all about http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PdU8PKK3VS4 .

(By the way, I sent a Facebook message to them asking if their pre-label singles would ever be re-released. They said no.)

That said, my FAVORITE Japanese musician, Moskitoo (downtempo, i.d.m., from Sapporo) put out her 1st new music (compilation tracks aside) in ages, an LP called Mitosis on 12k. I'm waiting for the Japanese version to listen (bonus tracks), but I'm sure it will be fantastic. https://soundcloud.com/#12k/fluctuations?in=12k/sets/moskitoo-mitosis Look up the song Terrier by her, as well as a more trip-hop-oriented person from elsewhere on Hokkaido, Noah. http://flau.bandcamp.com/track/do-you-remember http://flau.bandcamp.com/track/do-the-right-thing-dtrt

If you like Cuushe, don't miss the above.

99Letters is also really good for chiptune techno. https://soundcloud.com/#99-letters/sets/99letters-turbo-drum-ep Funwari-chan just did L.V.Z. for chiptune house. http://vimeo.com/71808966 That's a superb trailer.

Also, Kidkanevil (check out his collaboration with Daisuke Tanabe called Kidsuke) is doing a massive collaboration with Dza, Tanabe, Jealousguy, Cuushe, and others for his next album. Edit: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Anuc2iJU8LI

Thanks for these! One of your soundcloud links is broken though

Hm, I'm not sure which. New Soundcloud is just terrible, as that happens to me often. I did post the wrong link for 1, which I edited. Just copy-and-paste the url and cut off everything after the Soundcloud username. You can find whichever manually that way.

I'll try to pop in more often here. I use Make Believe Melodies, JMP3 (it's good for release dates and singles I didn't know were out; I hate piracy), J-Rock T.V., Digital Archives X, Ototoy, 2.5-D, and FocusSound for information, but you all offer a nice cross-section as well. The recommendations aren't just j-butt-rock and Perfume (not that those aren't good in their own way!).

I have the Thursday off when presale starts! There's a sticky note on my laptop screen, in the bathroom, and an alarm on my phone so I don't forget. PASSUWORDA: C-A-N-D-Y ;)

Perhaps I'll see you there!

That new androp MV was number one on MTV yesterday. I didn't know they were so popular.
They aren't that popular but most of their releases manage to get in Oricon's top 20 (well, it's still a pretty good thing, don't get me wrong).
And since Voice is the theme song of the drama Woman they get more exposure.

I've noticed Daniel Robson ‏@ItCameFromJapan around the WT2nd gigs. He's doing a lot of coverage, festivals, concerts, etc.

His podcast is pretty neat and covers all kinds of Japanese music, http://www.itcamefromjapan.co.uk/

Long story short, he got a review copy of Level3 and got nice things to say about it too!

Loving the new #Perfume album. The non-single tracks are almost all excellent, and the album mixes of the singles are mind-blowing... #prfm

Looks like he's also preparing for an interview and full album review.

I decided to check out this album today since Kurita seems to like them so much, and Tower was doing some promotion. Very awesome. I may purchase it...

Oh! Also, does anyone have the oral cigarette's new album? I listened to that a bit, too. Seems quite good.

I love the way Tower Records promote stuff, with hand-written notes, the bands' autographs...
And since I'm so weak, I grabbed the album on iTunes, I just couldn't wait for my copy (even though I should receive it this week :lol )...
The album simply is the best antidepressant of the year.

Two first times were more intimate - 3000 capacity and then a festival up close. Will be interesting to get my first dome show experience. The more people the better the live "Fake It" experience is though.

Oh yeah Fake It is like the ultimate Perfume song to experience live imo
We were around 1500 people at the Paris show and it was just insane.

Wanted to buy the first two mini albums. Turns out to be very rare. I am boycotting the band until they start take their business seriously.

I hate limited edition releases.

I know what you mean. One of my favorite Japanese rappers released a bunch of his albums only packaged with DVDs, and I just can't afford them.
